I'm going to have to re-listen to Modest Mouse. This video inspires me to reconsider everything and explore some of the albums I haven't heard yet. 1) Once Chance (Good News for People Who Love Bad News, 2004) 2) Strangers to Ourselves (Strangers to Ourselves, 2015) 3) Fire It Up (We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, 2007) 4) The Good Times Are Killing Me (Good News for People Who Love Bad News, 2004) 5) Gravity Rides Everything (The Moon & Antarctica, 2000) 6) People as Places as People (We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, 2007) 7) Float On (Good News for People Who Love Bad News, 2004) 8) Trailer Trash (The Lonesome Crowded West, 1997) 9) Night On the Sun (Everywhere and His Nasty Parlour Tricks, 2001) 10) Dramamine (This Is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Think About, 1996) Honorable Mention) Polar Opposites (The Lonesome Crowded West, 1997) Second Honorable Mention) We Are Between (The Golden Casket, 2001) By the way, I have an LP of the soundtrack from Paris Texas, which I bought at a record store back in the 1980s when that film came out. Glad to know you like the film as well! I've digitized it, but I think all the songs are already available on RUclips, so no point in sending it to you. I used to listen to it while driving up to Seattle around 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. when I was bringing fruit up to sell in Pikes Place Market. Lonely music for a lonely drive, but my dad said it sounded like a funeral dirge. I'll watch it again now, since it's your favorite movie.
wonderful video. I very much enjoy Everything and His Nasty Parlor Tricks EP, as well as Night On the Sun EP. (The latter was only released in Japan:) lately, I’ve been really into Sad, Sappy Sucker. It is so cute and quirky. 💙🎸
Wow, such a great top 10 list! I knew it when you started with Ohio that your taste in Modest Mouse would be very good! Especially your pick for the #1 song. That tune always manages to make my day better, no matter how bad. I also only have one MM album, but it's Long Drive haha From the songs you didn't mention, I'd add Edit the Sad Parts and Night On The Sun, but really, their early discography is full of so many great songs... I'm looking forward to watching your previous and upcoming videos!
ohio is one of the best for sure! Love those two songs you mentioned as well! was just feeling they shared similarities with several songs of the list already...Glad you liked it! Best wishes :)
My favorite song is 'Little Motel.' I first heard it while driving the 101 between Buelleton and Gaviota (kind of near MJ's ranch) and it totally set the mood as I was driving through a rainy day through a mountain chasm.
This is awesome. Not only are you a fan of my favorite slowcore bands, Duster, Bedhead, Low, you also cover the brilliance of Modest Mouse, the first 'indie rock' band I'd ever listened to. Believe it or not my very first introduction to Modest Mouse was when I was about 12 years old and obsessed with Guitar Hero. I remember the first time playing 'Float On' on Guitar Hero World Tour and something about their sound instantly clicked with me and got me obsessively listening to that track. It was something about the guitar riff and Brock's vocals that I loved in particular. Later on I decided to check out their other music since I loved Float On so much. The very first Modest Mouse album I chose to listen to was This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Talk About and right away I noticed how grittier and darker their sound was compared to 'Float On'. I grew up in a strict Christian household so I never really listened many different kinds of music besides awful Christian rock bands, so some of the songs on this album shocked me and made me scared to play it around my parents who would most definitely disapprove of it. But that didn't stop me from getting more and more obsessed with this album. Because of this, This is a Long Drive for Someone with Nothing to Talk About will always be my personal favorite since it was the first album I'd heard by them that blew me away. And, while Float On really isn't one of my favorite MM tracks anymore, I do hold loads of respect for it for being the track that sparked my obsession with Modest Mouse. I do have to say though, I go through phases where Lonesome Crowded West is my favorite MM record, it is without a doubt the best record of the 90s. Seriously every song on that album is actually perfect, really the only reason This is a Long Drive is my favorite is because of how close to my heart it is. In regards to MM's newer albums, they've always seemed to disappoint me. And it's not really because of how they've changed their sound a little and are more radio friendly or whatnot, they just don't amaze me the way they did in their first three albums and eps. I always go back to see if they'll grow on me but they haven't really so far. I will say that there are some amazing songs on Good News and We Were Dead but besides that nothing else they've released excites me as much as it used to. I know some people love their newer stuff which is fine, it just hasn't really clicked with me yet. My favorite MM song would easily be Teeth Like God's Shoeshine. I can't tell you how many times that song has given me goosebumps. Baby Blue Sedan is an extremely close second, it is one of their most crushingly beautiful songs ever. Anyways, i just realized I wrote an essay instead of a comment lol. Sorry about that, I'm just extremely passionate about Modest Mouse and it made me ecstatic that you've covered both slowcore and MM. Awesome channel will be sure to check out your other videos!

@@StellasEncounter Yes, I was sad when they both died too. I'm still sad :( Sam died on a horse farm in Kentucky because he loved horses so much.
