  • I took this video: • Video and combined it with the sound from my own old VHS tape. My video was shaky, the original audio was monaural.
    BBC 'Rhythms Of The World' 1990-03-24. There is another version of the entire documentary ( • IRAKERE 30mn DOCUMENTARY ) but it lacks this track and therefore this rather impressive drum solo.

    This was a great series. It was the first time I saw Arturo Sandoval when he had left Irakere and was performing with his own band very soon before defecting to the U.S.

      Oscar Valdés Moreno (1965-2013)
      Primarily known for the band AfroCuba. The son of Oscar Valdés Campos, singer and co-founder of Irakere, who in turn is the son of Oscar Valdés 'El Viejo'. As a consequence both son and grandson were at times known as Junior or Oscarito...
      No idea why he plays this solo at this particular show, as the official trap kit drummer for Irakere, Enrique Plá, can be seen playing an agogô at the start of the solo.
