  • It’s Day 5 in Santee! Team DFS all stayed an extra hour today to finish burying irrigation lines in the hopes that we might just finish on schedule tomorrow! This project has been huge and very gratifying. Our clients are thrilled which always makes it all that much more fun. It’ll be interesting to see if we make it! We’ve still got to finish installing lights and burying all electrical lines, install two ton of rubble, 8+ yards of topdressing, a yard of accent rock, plant out the pots, power wash the driveway and any other last minute chores. Can we do it???
Registration for Succulent Tapestry 101 closes tomorrow! Go to www.lauraeubanks.com/workshops to sign up.

I've really enjoyed seeing and learning how much is involved that I'd never think of when viewing a nice landscape - electrical wiring, watering systems, and all the rock and boulders, plus some very large/heavy plants!

LOVE this garden. Always love to see Milii. At the front there are too many barrel cactus. And at the end, the tall rock needs new placement, from side it hides the magnificent agave.

What is that mixture you put before you put rocks but after all the plants are in to prevent weeds? I live in Orange County and have a similar little installation I did on my own and the weeds coming through my rocks are driving me nuts. I’d love to know what I could use that wouldn’t hurt my succulents but would help prevent weeds!

I’m always amazed at how much progress is made each day. It’s already looking great! Did I just miss that giant boulder towards the back of the property? 🪨 If it was placed there, how in the world did you put it there?!?
Looking forward to the big reveal, whether it’s tomorrow or the next day!

Lol, “that really cool _angustifolia_ …” 🤣 I’m currently in a love-hate relationship with that one. Not because of where I planted it… but someone else I live with “found” several large ones in someone’s alley, which were headed for the dump… so they “saved” them & brought them home, and decided to plant in our yard. By the pool. Which you’d think would be good for Agaves, and it would be, but they planted them in deep shade underneath a weeping willow. I was hoping to put Bromeliads there… and they’re planted in this vintage clawfoot bathtub that we have outside. The exact container I thought would be ideal for Bromeliads.. Full shade! Agaves?! Why? It’s a pest magnet. Scale! And Agaves in shade = runamucky and spoiled plants. They’re absolutely spoiled for comfort, and they’re not deprived of light either as it’s reflected off the pool! The crazy thing is the taproot(s) have evidently made their way out the drain of those vintage bathtub, gone underground, and I found a pup no less than 15 feet away. The bigger they get, the bigger a headache it’ll be to change… ugh. 🫤 But yours looks good.
