      @@FXDLSBrooklyn no they are all stock harley mounts, but when i bought the bike it only had 13000 miles on. i replaced all the wheel bearings, headstock bearings, swingarm bearings and bushes. Rebuilt the forks with uprated springs and oil. I bought a predator front mount to use on mine but i had it 2 years and my bike rides that straight i sold it to my friend as i didn't want to risk messing up the handling on mine. Engine wise, mines got S&S 97", S&S 510 gear drives, thunderheader, mikuni. And now its chain drive too. My last dyna had lots of dyna wobble at around 80/90 mph.

    Nailed it as always!! I think another reason the 2001 was so desirable, along with the brakes and suspension was 1999- 2002 were hot forged crank assemblies with the Timken bearing on the output shaft. They could take more power thrown at the 88 🤘🏼

    • @webbsteroni
      @webbsteroni 10 месяцев назад +1

      Yes! The Timken bearing I understand is the more desirable version. My '03 FXDX just missed the boat but it's a clapped-out death trap and that's quite alright with me.

    2001 fxd.. modified. One of my bikes. Definitely worth it. Upgrade suspension, exhaust and you have a solid reliable cruiser. Make it even better with 95” kit, headwork(or even just 2006 newer heads cause they flow better), update cam chest and you’ll have an amazing ride👌. Love that bike u got. Dope.

    What the hell was harley thinking mounting the swing arm to a rubber mounted transmission rather than the frame? The world may never know.
    Fresh motor mounts and stabalizers do make a huge difference, provided its all aligned correctly. The wobble is uncomfortable, especially if your bikes worn out in stock form. But if you know the bikes tight. You can just keep pushing that buckaroo as hard as you can hang on.. it ain't going to jump off the road. Just slow you down a bit.

    I bought my Buell Lightning in 99, a friend of mine had bought a 99 Dyna and proceeded to ride it to California after breakfast it in and the cam timing chain let loose and HD gave him the runaround about it so he u-hauled it back. My buddy Kurt bought a Bagger with a 88 and had no problems. But the timing chain issue scared people at the time. The dealer that I had to take my Buell to for the recall work had a FXDT and I almost traded my Buell for it. I wish I had now, but at the time I commuted 80 miles a day, and couldn't risk having mechanical issues.
    I've had a couple bikes with the Dyna wobble and i believe expensive motor mounts and the True track cures it abeit expensive. My FXRP never wobbled and i just put stock motor mounts back on it.
    My RK wobbled but only when you let the throttle at high speed in big sweepers. My Electra Glide Standard doesn't wobble at all but the motor mounts and suspension is very fresh.

    My late model dyna had the wobble for years. Always at 90mph, and 50mph in a corner. I never understood why. Replacing my head bearings and using kinetic structures motor mounts fixed both problems. I'm curious if an early model dyna still has death wobble with motor mount stabilizers?

  • @kashanimous1711
    @kashanimous1711 10 месяцев назад +1

    Great video as always man! I'll throw my 2 cents in. Since 2018, I've had a lot of different Harleys. I started on a late model Dyna, then went to a M8 Softail, an FXR, an FXDLS, a 2022 Road Glide, and now I have an 04 FXDXI. My bike is honestly kind of a clapper. The front brakes barely work, it has stock pipes, and when I got it, the motor mounts were so bad you could move the engine in the frame with your hand. Despite all of this, it is hands down, no competition, my favorite Harley I've owned so far. I changed the motor mounts and the thing is straight as an arrow up to triple digit speeds. I did experience gnarly wobble on my 2017 Low Rider with only 2,000 miles so the fact that this bike with beat up 19 year old stock suspension is out performing it is really insane. Here in Western Pa, we have a lot of these really narrow winding backroads that have a lot of 15 mph turns. I used to love crushing them on my supermoto, and my FXDX is the first Harley I've had that I can really hit these roads the way I used to. I attribute it to the 28 degree rake and phenomenal ergonomics of the early model frame. My only real complaint is the terrible gas mileage. It's fuel injected but it usually gets about 30mpg on the dot. But I'm really excited to build this thing out over the years!

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn  10 месяцев назад

      That's a crazy span of Harleys you have had! Why did you get rid of the FXR?

      @@FXDLSBrooklyn My FXR was a 1993 with 98,000 miles on it. I rode it 4 times over the course of a year and it broke down 3/4 times. Throttle cable snapped, then the belt broke, then the transmission went out. Each time I was really far from home and the bike was just too much drama. It was fun but a total money pit.

    Hey man, just saw this vid after you referred me to it. Good informative vid. One question I still have: would a 2012 superglide custom still have the same visceral sound/vibration and overall feel as the ‘99 one? Or did some of that get engineered out in the later years.

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn  10 месяцев назад

    The "Dyna Wobble" is simply not maintaining your bike as scheduled, two dyna's later and never had a wobble. Any bike can wobble with out maintaining bushing, mounts, rubber, bearings, etc... I've seen touring bikes wobble too so it's not just a "dyna" thing.

    • @FXDLSBrooklyn
      @FXDLSBrooklyn  10 месяцев назад

      Ehh, I don't think it's that simple from someone who has put a lot of effort into maintenance and still experienced it
