I think this video alone is finally what I've been looking for. I've been highpassing like a madman, I just couldn't get how Camelphat and others get their arps sounding so good, well, now I know. I learned the basics of EQ-ing after 6 years of producing. Never hi-pass by default. Well, to be honest, a video from another youtuber helped also, but this one confirmed it. Thanks Joshua, I'll check more of your content asap
For sure! "Highpass everything" is some of the worst advice I see constantly being repeated on forums. It's bad advice. Usually better to shelf stuff. I used to highpass everything and couldn't figure out why my mixes sounded so thin. Then I remember watching some Computer Music video where a big producer advises shelving stuff than highpassing it all. And I remember inspecting some stems from pro tracks and seeing that they didn't highpass the low end on their synths and vocals and stuff, confirmed it for me. More tutorials on the way, just haven't really been certain of what people are looking for help with lol
Haha you got it right with the eq cut, from my experience the harshest frequency possible for our ears is 4500Hz :D Btw, really clever approach to many things! Looks like you know the stuff quite well :) Keep up the nice videos! -matt- PS. I usually prefer Zebra or Dune for such leads, idk why but maybe their filters sound a bit more.. classic trancey-ish if it makes sense :D Sylenth is good to layer it with either of them in other to add some nice warmth. I'd also use some multiband indeed.
Thanks dude! Yeah I love Dune, amazing filters, I just decided to do this in Sylenth since that's what most people looking for tutorials are probably using :)
Nice video mate.. Just an FYI the ableton Compressor EQ is only for EQ'ing the incoming side chained signal. It does not Frequency band the compression of the signal being compressed. You need the mulitband compressor for that. Well done though, you nailed the lead.
Thanks! Yep, that's exactly why I used the sidechain eq in the compressor. I didn't want to compress a certain part of the signal, I wanted to make it so only a certain part of the incoming signal ended up triggering the compression.
@@jaetmusicstudios8532 I just rewatched the video, and I totally said the wrong thing in the video haha! I meant to say that the compression is only triggered by the frequencies in the sidechained range, but I said "compression is only being applied to frequencies in this range" like a dumb-dumb. Well, at least I was using it the right way even if I explained it the wrong way lol
So basically at 2:57 we set the filter input to include Mix B's oscillators, so if we turned the voice count of the Mix A oscillator's to 0 we'd still hear the Mix B noise oscillator even though the Mix B gain fader is turned all the way down. It basically routes the audio from Mix B into the filter of Mix A, but it doesn't prevent Mix B from outputting audio on its own, so we turn down the Mix B gain fader. Does that make sense? Kind of convoluted lol
@@joshuaadam1775 Hi Joshua, yes I did see the email, and thanks for the tutorial, theres a long time I was looking how do trance leads or arpeagiators, very appreciated! Finally I can do trance lead/arp instead of looking for presets wich is hard to find!
Just found this video 2 years after - very interesting and pretty accurate! definitely learned something!
Thanks man! Great song by the way :)
This video is just perfect !
Why are people like you so underrated ?!
Dude...... God bless you !

Great video!! Can you write down the R4 parameters so I can understand how you got that nice reverb effect?
Thanks! Sure, I just added the R4 preset to the download which you can get here: bit.ly/2Ck0caH
@@joshuaadam1775 thanks alot! Looking forward for future tutorials!

Hi and thanks for your video, could we get the preset of this video ? thanks
It's in the video description :)
"alright you get it"
Can you make aly and fila style
Will do!
Great video, could you do Bryn whiting - still alive?

just mix this with few bars from Armin van Buuren - Communication (Vincent De Moor Remix) sound nice
What does the Mix A/B control do? I dont understand why turning down the Mix B control still allows any white noise sound to be heard

Wait, so these types of arps are not usually made more stereo?
Hi Joshua, can you reset the Download of the Presets + the MIDI files, I didn´t receive anything on my mail box.
Hey, sorry I just saw this, did the email end up sending? Maybe check your spam folder?
