  • In today's video, I continue with and finish up my journey for the Mages Guild questline, featured in The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. It resumes with receiving tasks from Edwinna Elbert in Ald'ruhn. She gives me various tasks surrounding the Dwemer, their ruins and artifacts. Once her tasks were completed, I moved along to Ajira back in Balmora. She revealed to me the locations of The Staff of Magnus, along with the Warlock's Ring. Next, I spoke with Skink in Trees Shade who gave me my remaining guild orders. Finally, I met with Arch Mage Trebonius and he had me look into the disappearance of the dwarves, as well as the leaders of house Telvanni. Lastly, I challenged Trebonius for the position of Arch-Mage. Don't forget to like, comment and subscribe!

    Morrowind is easily the best ES game and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed your play through. Thanks

    3:47 Never realized Passwall was mentioned here! It was a really good spell exclusively in the first TES game, Arena, which allowed you to delete sections of walls. Good for short cuts through long dungeons when you know where you want to go!

      That’s really neat actually! I was wondering if it had anything to do with Passwall in the Shivering Isles, but this makes more sense!

    These are so great! Can't wait to see the Thieves Guild series. I recall as a middle-schooler playing this game for the first time being totally stumped trying to find some of the locations for that questline.

      I’m really excited to get to the thieves guild! It was cool to see the fighters guild side, now I’m excited for the other perspective!

    Glad you enjoyed the mages guild so much. I feel like oblivion's quests could have focused more on the Ayleids, maybe even incorporating similar concepts like the Umbaccano questline into it. As it stands, not every Morrowind quest is a hit but the good ones hit hard and the different personalities of the stewards stick with you. Thanks for another great video

    • @ABardsBallad
      @ABardsBallad  16 дней назад +2

      Cheers! Couldn’t agree more, I wish there were more Ayleid quests in Oblivion’s Mages Guild Questline, would’ve been more interesting!

    • @welshlout3400
      @welshlout3400 16 дней назад +2

      Perhaps Umbaccano’s questline started out as a competing mage’s guild story concept. A revived Ayleid king may have lost out as Oblivion’s main threat to the guild during the drafting phase (Mannimarco and his necromancer cult were a natural fit for it, after all). But yeah, they couldn’t not include a narrative featuring the ayleids, hence Umbaccano having a something of a mini faction questline all his own

      @MrGutty117 12 дней назад

      @@welshlout3400 I think you're completely right. There are a number of Ayleid adjacent quests in the Oblivion Mages guild and this makes me think they were going for something similar to Morrowind and the Dwemer in the dev process but took the Mannimarco route instead. I wish the Oblivion MG storyline was tighter but I am thankful for the Umbaccano questline because I love the archaeolgy and lore

    The most interesting part, is that Trebonius was just a puppet of the Hlalu house, given that only them really benefited from the Deaths of the Telvani councilors, explaining why in the first place one infiltrated their ranks

    Considering Trebonius has the Necromancers Amulet, he really sort of cheats to being the rank he is. Very much a jock among mages who favored arcane brute force over the more studious practices the guild normally follows. Considering him forcing a duel for his position shows that mentality.

    • @ABardsBallad
      @ABardsBallad  16 дней назад +3

      Well said! I was also thinking that in his mind, if he beats the player, he’ll “show” the rest of his peers in Morrowind that he deserves his ranking

      Considering one of the guild members described him as a "powerful battlemage," you're probably not far off on that train of thought.

    The mages guild was probably my favourite guild in morrowind (except perhaps house telvanni). Might be why I could never bring myself to complete the Kill the Telvanni Councilors quest - I've always jumped ahead to challenging trebonius in the arena instead 😅

  • @MrBrimbles
    @MrBrimbles 16 дней назад +1

    Trebonius was a total idiot. He considered the Telvanni spy in his midst his most trusted advisor and then tasks you with killing all of the Telvanni councillors? Tremendously powerful Dunmer mages, possibly over a millennium old?
    Either he was trying to get you killed (he says later on that he sees your ambition) or he really was so stupid that he expected:
    A) You could singlehandedly wipe out all the Telvanni leaders, something Trebonius himself couldn't do and no one person could reasonably be expected to do.
    and B) that if you did succeed, such a feat somehow wouldn't make you an obvious replacement for him.
    Regardless I think the Mage's Guild questline in Morrowind is much better than the one in Oblivion.

    • @ABardsBallad
      @ABardsBallad  16 дней назад +1

      Yeah Trebonius wasn’t winning any scholarly awards nor badass titles 😂 I agree, I think the mages guild in Morrowind was more enjoyable to go through than Oblivion!
