5% or 10% more damage from a weakness is so small that it will be unlikely to be meaningful for team optimization, unless you get something else from hitting weakness. Having stronger or better built characters is going to make a way bigger difference. Other similar games have way, way higher values on both the weaknesses and resistances so it actually matters.
I don't have all the characters, so I don't think should do Dorm stories, though I did consider uploading them. Story/lore is in works by other content creators right now, and they're quite far into it afaik. Not sure when they'll post them, though.

It will absolutely matter for timed challenges and modifiers. You need every bit of damage for those.
