    It’s in the ballpark,IMO. According to my tiny iPad speaker, the ibanez is tighter and a bit more compressed sounding, while the P bass is more open

      Indeed, definitely in the ballpark. I'm curious what the 1505 neck pickup sounds like in comparison. We'll find out soon!

    Nice style, man! I like the nerdiness of it all, it sets the right mood for this kind of video. I´m looking forward to your video of the EHB1005MS with Aguilar pickups. The 1005MS really seems tempting, but I´d prefer the Nordstands of the 1505MS. Unfortunately, I don´t like the looks of the 1505 too much, so am actually thinking of getting the 1005 and order some NS Big Splits as replacement pickup. But before that, I´ll wait and see what those Aguilars will do for you.

      Thanks! I'm looking forward to installing the Aggies and testing them out :). Life has been hectic but I'm doing my best to get this stuff out. IMO I like my 1005 more overall. The roasted maple neck and sweet finish push all the right buttons for me. The pickups are the only letdown (and they're not awful, just a bit muffled). Really hoping these new pickups are the icing on the bass cake :)

      @@LowEndLobster Hi again. I am really into this bass but I do hate the sound of the Barts so I more or less decided to buy one and have it equipped with Häussel pickups. To order them, I need the exact dimensions of the BH2s. Any chance you can tell them to me?

    So I did what I said elsewhere & splurged on this! I went black after a lot of deliberation, but yall & my friends may bully me enough to return it for sea foam.
    I did have a question though. I find the B to be sinusoidal, bell-like when fretted anywhere up the neck, especially in comparison to the same notes on the E string. Other strings are also brighter fretted up the neck than B is. This is true acoustically, so I don't think it's an issue anywhere in the signal chain, pickups or otherwise. It does become a problem once electrified though, as using the onboard bass boost or one in my recording software makes the bass *super* boomy on the B, and it can't have an even brightness with the other strings. I could solve the boominess with some tedious dynamic EQ work / multiband comp but it'd be nice if it came out the bass sounding even.
    Have you faced this? Have you solved it? I can only think to:
    - just avoid the b string past the 4th fret while playing
    - try a heavier string than stock, or different material
    - find a different 5 with an even longer scale length despite my baby hands already having trouble fretting stuff on this near the nut, like octaves
    - give up on 5 and go for a slightly downtuned 4 instead

      Hi Lobster! Much to my surprise, my EHB1005MS came in yesterday! Great bass. The shipped setup was pretty decent, action a bit too high for my taste, but still enjoyably playable. Once the shops open up when this COVID stuff declines, I'll have my guy who does great work hook me up. Sounds great and plays REALLY great! The fanned fretting at first kind of screwed with my muscle/finger memory, but the adjustments for this were quite minuscule and was easily able to adapt to this new fret layout. Neck is perfect and the multi-scaling allows me to play the E and B string with relatively little effort and hold their tones really well. My only small gripes are the factory EQ pots are plastic, factory nut is plastic, and the gig bag isn't all that. Great bass though...very pleased with this purchase! Thanks for your reviews on this particular model, keep up the great online content!!!

    I removed the locking output jack and installed a switchcraft jack instead. I found a jackplate with the same screw pattern as the Neutrik so I didn't have to make new srew holes.

      Thanks! Yeah, they're comfortable basses. The body shape is well designed to allow for great neck access sitting or standing. I also play my basses higher than most (I hate when my basses sit at my belt line), so YMMV. Everyone's different. But yes, I definitely think these are well designed ergonomically!

    Hey Lobster! I love the videos and just subscribed! I've been out of the bass game for a few years with a repetitive stress injury and I've been trying to get back into it with an ergonomic bass. Thicker necks (depth at first fret) seem to work well but low action is also a big deal. What's the neck profile like on these beauties? I'm hoping to order a 4stringer when they get in stock! Thanks so much and I look forward to future content.

    • @LowEndLobster
      @LowEndLobster  4 года назад

      Hey Cameron! Thanks for subscribing :). Sorry to hear about your injury. The neck profile of the four string in terms of thickness is about where a modern soundgear is at (~19mm vs ~22mm for a modern P) thicker than the soundgears of old, but no P-bass), but the necks are a hair wider than a soundgear and more equivalent to a modern P in terms of width. They're very comfortable necks. Great question :)!

    Hey Lob, I have a question for you. I have Very small hands. Will a fan of fret bass be any easier to for me to play than a standard fret 34 inch scale? I have a medium scale Ibanez Mezzo and even playing in it is at times difficult. I have adapted to it but it still at times gives me a little bit of problems. I don't like it the tone of many of short scale basses but short of of spending Large Dollars on a custom as I really have a bit of a conundrum here. Any of tips/advise would be very helpful. Thanks!

    • @LowEndLobster
      @LowEndLobster  3 года назад +1

      Hey Jeff! That's a great question but a difficult one to answer. The G string I believe is 33" scale and the B string is 35". The G and D strings would probably be a bit easier to play, but the E and B strings would require a little more stretching (very minor IMO). The fanned frets on the lower registers (below 12th fret) add some extra comfort where the direction of the fan goes along with the angle of your wrist. However, above the 12th fret takes some mental adjustment if you're doing chords or fast runs.

      @@LowEndLobster Thank you! I love bass and have played on and off for about 40 years but the length of the neck has always been a problem for me. The scale and the sound of Rickenbacker's are why they are one of my favorites. (Always loved Chris Squire and Geddy)! There are some nice sounding short scales out there now, (the Ibanez Talman comes to mind and the short scale Spector so maybe I can find one or two that I can get comfortable with. I want to find a fretless too but that may take a bit of extra dollars to have one built. I had an Fbass AC5 that I loved but it was very difficult for me in the lower positions. I may have to start saving up to visit the Warwick custom shop or have George build a shorter scale AC5 for me. BTW, if you haven't tried an Fbass you need to check them out sometime. They are one of the nicest "boutique" basses out there. I'm looking forward to your Spector review too. Thanks again!
