I watched the trailer, and missed the part about Snow White...Now I'm just wondering why the toad creature from outside Jabba's palace is dancing in it?
They couldn't have made the character more loathsome if they tried. She is taken in by the dwarves as a refugee and immediately starts bossing them around and telling them what to do, laying down the rules for them in their own home, instead of doing any work herself. Actually. It's the perfect movie for The Current Year.
In the original, she's grateful to them and cleans their house while they're at work. I remember Sleepy says, "Hey, my sugar's gone.." after Snow White washes the dishes lol
@@pendorran The prospect of being a Hollywood "star" went straight to her head before anyone even began to like her. I bet even Brie Larson keeps her at a healthy distance.
And as an instructor and a mentor to children, I am sick of these movies teaching them bad lessons when I dedicate my time to trying to ensure their growth as good people.
In fairness to Disney, that IS modern feminism. At some point you have to stop pretending that the message that is repeated by everyone with a platform or credentials that calls themselves a feminist is anything but the current iteration of feminism.
The Whistle While You Work thing is actually more idiotic, because it was more than repaying the dwarves kindness, it was about her kindness. Her reaction upon seeing the mess was that they were orphans with no one to take care of them and her being the good person and doing something nice for those who are in need.
hot take: pretty retarded nitpick ngl. you guys are really reaching for this one and it's getting way too obvious. let's save the complaints for things that are actually woketard trash.
It’s wild because in the original she cleaned the house with her animal friends. The new one she enslaves the Dwarfs in their own home. Considering the “agenda” it’s beyond hilarious at this piont.
If the ACTRESS doesn't like the original, and DISNEY doesn't like the original, then WHY in the world should ANY of US "CARE" about this NEW one?!? The ONLY reason why ANYONE would WANT to watch the new one, is because of their LOVE of the original one!
"Who's the fairest?" "Have you heard of Granny Miller? Sweetest old baker you'd ever meet. She helps people eat no matter what, and she lets people sleep in her living room when the weather's bad!" "...huh?"
@@TheSchultinator Wait, "fairest" isn't who's the "most beautiful"? I thought that was the whole shtick behind calling her Snow White? They were ascribing her goodness and purity with being beautiful and "pure". I don't think fairest was a reference to her skin being fair too no? that's too much of a coincidence though. Because if "fairest" just means morally righteous and good, why would the evil queen be jealous of _her_ for that? Just stop being an insufferable evil queen. Instead one who gives to the poor out of the kindness of their heart and bam, you're 'fairest".
Here's a detail that was missed about the original Snow White: the cleaning scene actually occurs BEFORE she meets the dwarfs. The animals lead Snow White to their house, and when she enters, she assumes that the residents are children without a mother or any sort of guardian, hence the mess, so her cleaning the house with the animals was entirely her own decision out of the kindness of her heart. This new one is insinuating that this cleaning occurs after she meets the dwarfs and that she didn't even bother to do it before she knew about them, but now that these guys are here, she can boss them around into doing this job. What sort of message is this supposed to be getting across?
The message is break into a house, tell the homeowners what to do by reason of bossing them around, and if they object, start whistling a song that'll possess them into doing as you command.
In the Grimm original in German, it literally says: "Wer ist die schönste im ganzen Land?", which translates to: "Who's the prettiest in all the land?" 'schön' translates directly to 'pretty', and no German-speaking person would use that word to refer to moral qualities, it is purely refering to aesthetics of any kind.
For no German-speaking person, the notion of "fair" as the translation of "schön" in the sense of physical beauty and not of moral quality is emphasized by the fact that the Queen was asking this question to a mirror, which is a device that people use to inspect outward physical aesthetics, not inner beauty.
@@pygmalion137 Very true, although the mirror can have a deeper meaning in a metaphorical sense, the source material the whole farce is based upon doesn't warrant that. Also, I doubt that the writers and producers have the mental capacity to think on that level.
As a German, I can put the debate of how „fair“ is to be interpreted to rest. Schneewittchen is a German fairy tale. The original text is: „Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand: wer ist die schönste Frau in dem ganzen Land?“ Which translates into: „Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful woman in the entire country?“ And yea, no: Between Zegler and Gadot, that would objectively be Gadot. By a million miles. However, destroying people’s trust in their own good senses appears to be right up today’s Disney’s alley. Gaslighting on steroids.
Thank you for the translation. I remember watching "Albă ca zăpada" (Snow White) in Romania and the line would go as follows: "Oglindă, oglinjoară, cine este cea mai FRUMOASĂ din țară" (rough translation: Mirror, mirror, who is the most beautiful girl in this country?). To see them take something that somehow other cultures and languages have managed to adapt one to one and to apply such a disgusting, misandrist twist just leaves a sour taste in my mouth for both our rendition of the movie, but more importantly, the blatant disregard of the origin of this phenomenal fairy tale, as the Grimm brothers intended. Such a shame. Everything Disney touches turns to shit. Much love though, I will for sure watch the original when this piece of shit comes out. We should ALWAYS respect the original culture.
@@ashdown6032 Thank you for your input. Very true. One thing many shallow or stupid people disregard and/or are unaware of is that these old fairy tales, that sometimes may date back hundreds if not thousands of years are containing timeless wisdom, that had been „coded“ into a fairy tale. For example several fairy tales convey the truth that when you are kind, sincere, caring, selfless and benevolent, you wind up „richer“ in the end than if you are selfish, greedy, ignorant and exclusively out for your own, personal benefit. Disney‘s „modern“ Snow White turns that on it‘s head: Snow White is GUEST at the home of the hard working dwarves. But instead of being grateful and giving back, she bosses her HOSTS (!!!) around and has them clean the house more, so that the lazy, spoiled brat Snow White gets the kind of treatment she in her pathological sense of entitlement believes they OWE her! That is OUTRAGEOUS! It is almost as if Disney is on a mission to ruin people’s character, and to turn them - particularly girls - into malignant sociopaths! And men are being taught by Disney that they are supposed to put up with this disrespectful shit! Added to that is the hypocrisy of milking the famous tale of Snow White for capital gain on the one hand, while besmirching and defiling it on the other. This reminds me of people who venture out into nature to have a picnic there because it’s so beautiful - only to leave destruction and heaps of disgusting garbage behind. And then to top it all off, Disney has the actual NERVE to think of themselves as some sort of benefactors of society, some superior teacher who condescendingly lectures everyone on how to live right, while taking people’s money for the crap, toxic products Disney excretes.

@@hoordeyah No it genuinely is terrible. The visuals look sloppy and rushed, integration of cgi characters into the scene is done poorly, costumes for the lead actress looks cheap, lighting is bad. The most important thing about the original Whistle While You Work is that it was the very first thing Snow White did once she entered the cottage. She fully intended on utilizing the shelter to get some rest but she also made the clear conscious choice to pay that deed forward by showing kindness and a bit of work ethic to her hosts, whom she has not even met yet. She is willing to provide a service to complete strangers in exchange for a night's rest, and if that isn't the epitome of "FAIREST IN THE LAND" then nothing is.
"Reciprocity no longer exists." Absolutely correct. I saw a Google ad recently with a young guy in school who overhears that a girl needs new headphones. So, he buys her new ones as a gift, and she doesn't say thank you, give him a hug, a kiss, or anything. It's not clear at all what the relationship is, so it just comes across as "Give women things and expect nothing in return."
@@blackdynamite_5470am I crazy, or wasn't that an actual comic? So at this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they adapt it first. Why adapt something good, when they can go for social points...

@@oleksandrbyelyenko435But they really shouldn’t. I saw the original lion king and never once did I wonder how Mufasa grew into his older self. Disney would rather do these than create something new.
"Fairest now refers to who's the most fair and just" Then why the hell does the Evil Queen ask a mirror for his opinion on personality? "How kind and morally sound do I look today, mirror?"
Disney used "fairest" as a playword, the superlatives, the Evil Queen had "the youngest and beautiful" in mind, the mirror interpreted fairest as "the kindest and hopeful"... AND fairest can also be related to light-complexion (pale skin). Mankind linguistics attributed negativity to "dark" (this is a global thing, cultures that never interacted with each other reached the same interpretation), but this morphology is related to dark places, our ancestors feared the dark (for good reason), even nowadays we still have peripheral vision to protect us from danger, etc.. This is not about racism, alluding that light > dark = white > black, etc.. however interpret that way, that is a sign of alienation and ignorance, humans enslave each other since forever, much later western europe used religion to allude "people of color" don't have a soul, hence why it's not a sin to enslave them. I am portuguese, I know how ugly this whole crap can be (and belgians knows that even more, the most vile human being ever was a belgian king... well, the Roblox owner is fighting for that award right now). The playword "fairest" is too complex for current Disney, they don't have a substitute, so they sustained the same word, but basically destroying the characterization of the evil queen and the magic mirror because they assume the current audiences don't have more than two brain cells to interpret playwords lol and honestly, for this audience who sheer and clap on cinema, screaming "that's my captain!" when Captain America grabs the Mjolnir, can you blame Disney for underestimating the 2010s infatilized adult?
I am 58 and I watched all the old Disney stuff. My daughter is 12 and she loved dressing up as princesses...She had A LOT of the full foofy princess gowns, Cinderella, Belle, Snow White, Jasmine, Anna, Elsa, Ariel etc. When she went to these princess parties companies put on she looked more like the princesses then the people they hired. She usually went as the redheads since she is a redhead. Anna and Ariel. She did Belle once and still looked more like Belle than the person playing her. Because the princesses playing the characters had wigs. And yes, I took her to it. I was the only dad at the parties. Yes...She really had a full closet of those flowing gowns...She saw all the Cinderella movies...even the live action ones. She has seen the live action trailer for Snow White and has zero interest in seeing it. She MAY watch it on streaming but as of right now she has not said anything about wanting to see it.
As someone who was once a little girl with a ton of foofy princess dresses, I salute you for supporting your daughter and ensuring she watched quality film.
It was disgusting that the dwarves would feed her, shelter her, protect her, and not only does she not lift a finger to clean or cook while she's at home all day while they're out working, but she bosses them around and makes them clean the house.
That's the feminist fantasy of the perfect women. Obsessed with power, arrogant, untitled. Psychopaths are the category of people that are obsessed with power.
And somehow the entire kingdom is less _just_ and only now is the Mirror telling her about loosing the top spot. Must be a pretty evil kingdom if the best among them is the evil step mother queen.
That's what they call "lost in translation". The German original says "beautiful" which got translated to old-english "fair", meaning blonde. The word "fairy" refers to a little blonde supernatural female creature.
@@MediumRareOpinions A whole kingdom of jerks, but the least terrible person was the Evil Queen. That is, until Snow White came along. Maybe her enslaving the dwarves isn't so bad in that context.
@@lance134679 I suppose if the Mirror is judging how just they all are, would that include men and male dwarves too? Thus we can conclude that the dwarves must be more evil than the Queen and so deserve Snow White as a punishment?
OG Snow White showed her beauty through her thoughts and actions, by being kind, grateful, and considerate towards the rough and rugged dwarves. The dichotomy was highlighted enough that the dwarves were inpired by her kindness and consideration for others that made them care for her when she was in trouble. Now that that's taken away, what's the point of caring about a pushy and entitled princess who only cares about being a boss?
I had similar thoughts after seeing the trailer where she gets the dwarves to clean the house and she ends with no task to clean the house. I suddenly had the thought of, “B*tch, you clean the house or get your *ss out of here. I don’t need no bossy, in trouble girl, that is full of herself, coming to my doorstep, bringing her attitude, and problems into my life. Get out.”
Being "fairest in all the land" extended beyond looks. it also included her compassion and her virtue. Zegler's Snow White would be the type who would come crying back to the dwarfs because she's pregnant and has nowhere else to go.
You guys need to watch the original animated version. At the start Snow White is being mistreated already by her evil stepmother the Queen. She is dressed in ragged clothes and living as a kind of servant bringing up well water etc and dressed in clogs. She isn't living very privileged yet she is singing about love and hope and wanting to find true love. She is already kind and hardworking.
9:25 No, she didn't 'repay' the dwarves by doing chores. In the original Disney version she came across this abandoned house where everythin is small and she think they're orphan kids, so she clean up the space because she wants to care for them; she's very young (canon I think she's 14) but she's compassionate and motherly... same for the original Wendy, both were very young and growing into womanhood in full femininity, and that was a very strong trait to portray... can you imagine a modern disney princess being so selfless and confident enough to follow her instinct without felling weak or threatened by every shadow?
@@Stef3m Individuals at Disney would feel threatened by someone with such qualities ... because if you say 'woman' they don't know what you're talking about 🤣
They're using up all the energy produced powering the energy barrier that contains him, to prevent his rising from the grave to wreak his revenge upon the CEO and his board.
In the original, Snow White cleaned the house and even made supper in the hopes that whoever lived there would let her stay. In response to her kindness, the dwarfs were kind to her and even took steps to improve themselves around her. In this demake, that act of selfless charity has obviously not taken place as the house is still dirty in that scene. So either they met her out in the forest and took her home for some reason where she then started to tell them what to do, or she entered their home and sat around doing nothing until they came home and then started to tell them what to do. Either way it greatly lessens her character compared to the original.
That’s what kindness is IMO. Reciprocity isn’t really kindness because you still got something out of it. Snow White cleaned and cooked at first to do something nice and kind in hopes they let her stay but if they said no she wasn’t going to be like “but you owe me for cleaning.” Kindness is doing something without expecting anything in return. Now once the dwarves come back they tell her they will let her stay if she keeps cooking and cleaning. So at that point it’s just a quid per quo. I can’t picture any scene in the new movie where Snow White would do something to just be kind. I could see her doing something so that she will get something, and that’s just selfish.
It's clear that the creative team behind this Snow White reboot (even though it barely changes the story and is more concerned with "updating it for modern audiences") do not understand what made the original movie so good. Nor do they understand why Snow White is still such a beloved Disney Princess. She laid the groundwork for all Disney Princesses to follow, and the movie basically created the concept of an animated feature, as well as show that Disney could evolve beyond theatrical shorts. Their understanding of Snow White's character is so backwards and ignorant that they are changing her on a fundamental level and it's a massive downgrade for the character. By focussing on her needing to "become the leader she was meant to be" over all else shows that they misunderstand the core message of the movie and why Snow White is considered "Fairest in the Land". It's her innate kindness, compassion and care for others, not her beauty. Delegating to others while refusing to get your own hands dirty communicates that "Snow Spite" sees showing kindness to others as beneath her. She would rather command others and give herself authority over them than teach them how to be better people and to form a connection with them. She got the "boss" part of "girlboss" down pat. Most people dislike their bosses for that very reason; Delegating work to them the bosses with rather not do as it is beneath them.
The best thing about the inside of the house, the animators either didn't care or were incompetent enough to make it appear as if the world has 4 suns. It shines directly into the windows from each direction. I get that they probably wanted to make the house appear bright inside, but that could have been done differently. About fair being about the moral quality, that would be horrifying. If the queen is second best in comparison to Snowwhite, imagine the rest of the world, just how bad is the third person on the list or anyone else in the kingdom?
Good catch, I didn't notice the lighting since the entire trailer was such trash, but it shows how incompetently the CGI was done. And your other point is spot on too: evil queens worrying about their moral qualities? SMH
Good point about yet another terrible thing with this 'fair' idea. Other than that someone called Evil wants to be the best person and that someone who acts like Zegler's character is the best.
considering that in this version our 'fair' Snow white enter a stranger homes -> leach on them and FORCE then to SERVE her after they return from a full day of work in the mines -> and THAT the most moral person in this world ? -> well i think it safe to say it happen in HELL :)
Only Platoon has watched and understood Snow White the film. The story is about beauty and the jealousy it inspires in others. The queen wants to be the most beautiful woman in the land because of her vanity. That is why she has a magic mirror. When she asks the mirror to show her the prettiest woman she wants to see her reflection but instead she's shown Snow White. The mirror explains Snow Whites innate sweetness is the source of her beauty. Snow White over the film demonstrates that her beauty does indeed come from within demonstrated in her immaculate kindness even towards her would be killers and enemies. Snow White then enthralls a mate whose status allows her to escape the control of the evil queen. So this is first of all highly ironic considering Gal Gadot and the girl being cast in each other's role. And considering this film actually discusses feminism pretty aptly. And considering Snow White made Disney and now it will break it. Fascinating, the human psyche.
It's funny how Disney understood why Snow White cleaned the house in the Enchanted movie, but now they've forgotten. In Enchanted, Giselle cleans the apartment with her animal friends because she was living with the dad and daughter while trying to figure out how to get home. She was doing it as a kind gesture.
Telling the people who have invited you into your home to clean it is a massive insult, regardless of the reason for the invite, regardless of social status. Imagine being invited to a party and then telling the host to clean ... basic etiquette
The leaked scene absolutely destroys a whole bunch of really well executed character work and basic set up and pay off within a scene. Let's break it down. Snow white is led to a cabin in the woods after fleeing in the forest, during the entire night she's scared and tired and has just avoided death after almost losing her life to the huntsman. When she enters, she finds everything is so small and the place is a mess so she reasons that children must be living here. She than gasps in shock realising that there might be orphans who have no mother to clean it up. Out of the kindness of her heart, she cleans up the house on our own with the help of the animals WHO do it out of respect and love for snow white. They're not bossed to do it but help because of how kind hearted they see Snow white being, they decide to help out. It's also a metaphor for Snow whites motherly nature. She also hopes that her kindness will be paid back by whomever lives there by allowing her to stay there. IMPORTANT PLOT BEAT SHE DOESN'T KNOW DWARVES LIVE HERE! After cleaning the house, she goes to bed after a very exhausting night and afternoon of cleaning. Dwarves come home and find the house spotless, which makes them weary and scared. They don't understand who would do this but obviously think their house has been broken into. They slowly creep around the house until they hear a house from upstairs when they go upstairs to confront the intruder and are about to give her a beating. They stop when they find out it's a woman, although grumpy is not really impressed. She wakes up and gasps in shock at seeing the dwarves and than correctly guess their names. Do you see how you have basic set up and pay off within two scenes and character work has been done! Fcking todays writers always cheap out on the simplest things. Walt never wanted a remake of Snow white and there are shitting all over his wishes which were made blatantly fcking clear! Disney deserve nothing for what they are ruining. Give them no money for this, let it rot for that simple fact that they can't even respect the wishes of their founder TO WHOM THEY OWE EVERYTHING!
It gets WORSE when you remember Snow White is a by-blood princess. She, a royal, cared enough about subjects who were under her (when she thought they were orphans living alone) to do menial labor out of the kindness of her heart. Her linage meant NOTHING to her over proper respect (cleaning in exchange for a bed) and THAT is was a leader is. Snow White IS a wonderful example of feminine leadership. She doesn't NEED to wield a sword or act like a man; her feminine kindness, empathy, and skills (like cooking and cleaning) are valuable, she KNOWS it, and she provides as an equal exchange. THAT is why these monsters do this. Women naturally thrive in soft power. Whole kingdoms have fallen due to women being kind, observant, and caring for others. Soft power is fucking deadly and they've brainwashed a whole generation+ that it's a bad thing... as they themselves use said soft power to brainwash for their own wills. It's vile.
In the original Snow White, she comes upon the cabin in the mountains, but the Dwarves are off working in the mines. She doesn't know who they are, but as she looks around, she notices that all of the furniture is Dwarf sized (of course), and makes the assumption that they must be children. She also mistakenly thinks they must be orphans, since there are no adult sized equipment about. So, thankful for the shelter, and wanting to do something nice for these "orphan children", she instructs her animal friends in how to tidy up, and works with them to make the place look nice. Then she falls asleep in the Dwarves' beds (The beds are small, but all side by side, so she lays across them), which is where they find her. In the new, she is taken in by the Dwarves, but doesn't like how messy their house is, so she sings and encourages them to clean up, for her. As far as I can tell, she does not help in the cleaning up. The difference there doesn't matter, but the part that is strikingly different is between the old and new when it comes time to use the broom, to sweep up. In the original, Snow White says, "And I'll take the broom." In the new, she gives the broom to one of the Dwarves and says, "And HE'LL take the broom." *emphasis added My immediate thought was, "Okay. And what are you going to be doing, while they're cleaning their house?" She's an unexpected guest, making them clean up while she sings to encourage them. What is going on here?
It wouldn't fix this hot mess, but they could have at least saved some grace by having HER take the broom at the end after giving all the other jobs to the dwarves, like "we're all gonna chip in and make this place nice together", but even that was too hard for them to get right. 🤡
Snow White says, "And he'll take the broom," and the dwarf unironically answers, "Me?" as if he is lucky to be afforded the opportunity to clean his own house with his own broom.
While they clean up she’s gonna be on the phone with the Bank trying to buy their mortgage out from under them so she can be the real King of the Castle
Looking at the comparison with the original. Snow White (in the old one) not only delegated jobs to the Dwaeves, but she also was cleaning alongside them. She said she was going to use the broom. Telling audiences that this was a team effort and that she was part of the team. In the new one, Snow White was handing the broom off to one of the dwarves. Suggesting not working alongside them but acting like a micro manager, boss-babe. Not being a team player. Also. In the original version. Snow White was depicted in rags and forced to manually clean the castle floors as the Evil Queen watched. She was singing, "someday my prince will come." So, Snow White was actually the first Cinderella.
WHat are the moral lessons from Snow White ChatGPT: The story of Snow White imparts several important moral lessons that resonate with readers of all ages. Here are some key themes and takeaways: 1. The Dangers of Envy and Vanity The Queen's jealousy of Snow White's beauty drives her to commit cruel and malicious acts, such as ordering Snow White's death. This teaches the lesson that envy and vanity can lead to destructive and evil behavior. Constantly comparing oneself to others can foster bitterness and unhappiness, as seen in the Queen's obsession with being "the fairest of them all." 2. Inner Beauty vs. Outer Beauty Snow White is celebrated for her kindness, innocence, and pure heart, which attract others to help her, including the huntsman, animals, and the dwarfs. The value of inner beauty is emphasized over physical appearance, showing that a person’s true worth is found in their character, not just in how they look. 3. Good Triumphs Over Evil Despite the Queen's attempts to destroy Snow White, the story concludes with Snow White’s rescue and the Queen’s downfall. This conveys the moral that evil may seem powerful, but it is ultimately self-defeating, and good will always prevail in the end. 4. The Importance of Kindness and Compassion Snow White's gentle and compassionate nature wins her the affection of many. She is kind to the animals, the dwarfs, and even initially shows no malice toward the Queen. Kindness and compassion bring rewards, as those who are good-hearted tend to receive kindness in return. 5. Beware of Strangers Snow White’s trusting nature almost leads to her demise when she accepts the poisoned apple from the disguised Queen. This reflects the lesson that one should be cautious of strangers, especially those with unknown intentions. 6. The Consequences of Deception The Queen disguises herself and uses trickery to harm Snow White, but in the end, her deceit leads to her own destruction. Deception and lies may work temporarily, but they have serious consequences, reinforcing that honesty is always the better path. 7. Teamwork and Friendship The seven dwarfs protect and care for Snow White, offering her refuge and forming a strong bond with her. This shows the importance of friendship, teamwork, and loyalty, highlighting how working together can overcome challenges and adversity. In sum, Snow White serves as a rich narrative that explores themes of jealousy, kindness, beauty, and justice, teaching timeless moral lessons about the importance of being good, truthful, and cautious.
I think they originally intended to take actors of "normal" height and "hobbitify" them but some people were pissy about that. Well done, now it's 7 actor roles removed :P
My thanks to the panel for an excellent commentary. In particular, I think that Snarky Jay hit the nail on the head: that the lesson this movie is promoting is that for a woman to be a "real" woman, she has to be in a position of power, that she has to be telling everyone around her what to do, that she has to step on the people who helped her in the past. In other words, that to be a "real" woman, she has to be Kathleen Kennedy.
Second year high school for me (1971) one of my classmates told our class that his sister was a female liberationist. He elaborated that they didn't want equality, they wanted to be in charge. I never forgot his words.
Anytime the Gal Gadot "who's the fairest" problem comes up, I think of Snow White and the Huntsman with Charlize Theron as the queen and Kristen Stewart as Snow... but Charlize was incredible as the Queen, and this movie doesn't even have that to rely on...
Good point. Charlize has that villain edge to her, so even though she was beautiful, more so than Kristen, everyone knew her acting would shine through
@Roxas-ph3te Just like in the original cartoons and even in Once Upon a Time, the Disney Villains are rarely ugly and are full of charisma, yet still "evil". Gal has the looks... but that's it. That's how I felt about her in WW as well.
@@KTPinto I wouldn't say charisma, but intensity/edge is what Gal lacks. There are plenty of actors who have charisma but just don't play a villain as well as they do a hero.
Anya Taylor Joy would have made a much better Snow White. She has the skin tone, the beauty, and the acting ability to pull off the innocents and charm that Rachel zeigler lacks completely.
@@andrewfleming8103 The only thing that's going to be "historic" about this movie is how much money it will lose, how critically & commercially panned it will be & how much of an epic failure of opportunity it is.
@@andrewfleming8103The whole point of speculating who would have been a better Snow White is to work on the premise that the movie didn’t have to be trash in the first place and it could have actually been made well with better people involved. Of course, that includes getting rid of all the problematic people at Disney too and that’s a pipe dream. Lol.
Coincidentally, Snow White was a better leader in the original movie. She could command the creatures of the forest while still being gentle, she didn't boss around the dwarves, but rather was kind to them like a mother. This remake gets it completely wrong.
The reason movies don't have sets anymore is because they are still being written when shooting starts and so the sets can still be changed later. It is like in Avengers Endgame where lots of money got spent on editing the time travel suits in, because they have not decided how they are supposed to look.
I mean, Gal Gadot is going to look like an amazing actress against the diaper stain that is Dirt Tan in this movie. And the other massive advantage of Gadot's that cannot be understated: she is not an overwhelming liability on a press junket.
For the record, in the anime Grimm's Fairy Tale Classics version of the story, Snow White wanted to repay the dwarves by helping around the homestead, but the dwarves had to be patient with subpar work for the first week or so because, being a princess, she didn’t actually know how to do any work around the house properly.

Soooo they listened to Dinklage who complained that actors with dwarfism shouldn’t play dwarfs and now there are no actors at all anymore and the dwarfs are all CGI 😅 Yeah, that is certainly helpfull for the careers of all the actors with dwarfism out there 😑

3:49 That whole "fairest of them all doesn't mean 'most beautiful', it means 'most just and kind' to the queen" is such a stupid woke re-interpretation that makes absolutely no sense: - The evil(!) queen is supposed to be super vain and self-absorbed. Why should she ask her mirror about character traits she doesn't care about in favor of those she's obsessed with? - Even if(!) the queen would ask for "most kind and just", what would it say about the kingdom when the mirror always answers "you my queen are the fairest of them all" before Snow White reached adulthood. For years and years the EVIL QUEEN was the woman with the best and noblest character in all the lands? REALLY???
Let's hope they don't go for the whole oh the evil queen is just misunderstood because I swear Walt will rise from his grave and tear the entire film industry down.
"Like I will kill you to prove that i'm nicer!" Drinker. Reminds me of my favorite Simpsons episode: Alien Mr.Burns:"I'm bringing you love" Mob:"Heared that? He's bringing us love don't let him escape, breake his legs!"
10:00 - The leaked footage genuinely made me clench my *teeth.* Disney continues giving terrible lessons to kids. Also SnarkyJay was such a gem to listen too.
To be honest Snarky Jay is a pretty as Ziegler and can even talk intelligently. Remember Ziegler has make up artist, costume experts, lighting specialist, and possibly even electronic filters to make he look good. Meeting a movie star on the street without all the photo shoot prep, they don’t really look any more special than your average person.
Disney is a perfect representation of the fracturing of US culture. On the one hand: the knowledge that they're quietly cleaning house and focusing on returning to profitability in several departments. On the other: we get treated to "art" like the Acolyte and this lovely peach
This is why the live-action Cinderella worked and is still loved. Her mantra was 'Have courage and be kind'. Great lesson for anyone. Maybe the writers for this film missed that one?
@@ggt47 maybe, but I have to agree with @Terrince_Tate, I think Critical Drinker is being disingenuous, the reason I say that is because on multiple occasions, in past videos, he's admonished her behaviour, and now he changes his mind and justifies her actions. He's either being two-faced by being diplomatic about it, or he sincerely believes that her actions are not her own. If it's the latter, I mean, she's responsible for what she says, even if someone prompts you, you can choose whether you say those things and be able to understand the consequences that they'll have if you say them.
If "fair" is supposed to mean "just" then the writers have a got a huge job to make it seem like the queen expects the mirror to consider her the most just person in the kingdom when she's just poisoned her rival.
This movie was always going to be such a hard sale for audiences. Everyone except for Disney adults and the reaction shills are getting extremely tired of the live action soulless remakes, so getting people to like it was already an uphill battle. To make matters even worse, they casted an obnoxious Hollywood activist who constantly has to make her opinion on the politics and the current thing known and who called the original film outdated, sexist, and scary, which made the situation even more of an uphill battle. It somehow gets even worse. To fan flames even more, the actress is constantly attacking other Disney stars, including Jeremy renner, the least divisive MCU actor who never says anything controversial and gained a lost of respect and sympathy from the internet after risking his life to save his nephew, and they have to deal with backlash for firing the 7 dwarf actors after Peter Dinklage was whining in an interview accusing Disney of being insensitive to little people. Having multiple controversies and a divisive lead associated with your movie that has already been dismissed as a lazy corporate cash grab is such a winning strategy, just look at the Flash movie.
Mirror on the wall: Rachel Zegler is more fair and just than the queen Rachel: Stays at the dwarves' house and banks on their hospitality for free while making THEM work instead of doing something to repay them for her room and board Yeah, checks out, Disney thinks that's fair.
At last someone is saying that Gal Gadot is not a good actress, but more of a good-looking clotheshorse. That was my impression when I saw her for the first time. She's pretty and maybe nice, but she's not an good actress.Rachel Zegler, on the other hand, is simply someone who pretends to be an actress. She is completely herself: arrogant, rude, bossy and in no way likeable.
The "fairest" thing: There's a very important historical context to the Evil Queen being worried about getting old and Snow White becoming more beautiful than she was. In the Middle Ages, women had NOTHING. Even noble women didn't really have titles. They had whatever their father or close relative had. So, beauty was extremely important to maintain whatever social position a woman had... There were a few exceptions where some women could leave their mark or gain power, but those were exceptions. As a result of that social pressure, a lot of women drove themselves insane trying to stay young & beautiful. Erzebeth Bathory bathed in the blood of innocent young peasant girls. That's just one example. So, yeah, it wasn't that unusual for mothers to become jealous of their own daughters, because as they grew, the men in charge of the household would start to invest more into that girl and less into the mother, which meant the difference between living a comfortable life and a miserable one. The theme of the "jealous stepmother" was also pretty real: when a woman entered a marriage with a man who already had children and that man died before the new wife gave them children, they were in real danger of being left to die in the streets once the "true heirs" came of age. (That's Cinderella's entire plot.) I think the "Snow White" version that better exposed why the Evil Queen wanted Snow White dead was the version with Sigourney Weaver (1997's Snow White: A Tale of Terror). That's pretty much the only version that showed us the Queen's POV: She's newly married, moves to a new royal court where she has no friends, no family and no allies. Her "magic mirror" is clearly an evil thing that drives her insane. When the Court and the common folk start favoring Snow White, she feels threatened and, when she fails to have Snow White killed, that's when the blood bath begins. "Snow White & the Huntsman" shows us that the Queen is a power-hungry witch who doesn't love anyone but herself, which is also a good plot. There's no need to go for that weird "fairest means good and the Evil Queen just wants to be more good than Snow White" route... Well, except for Disney's compulsive desire to make all of their female villains into heroes and pretend their evil male villains don't exist (because they're all gay-coded, apparently, and that's awkward to juggle)... There's also a tendency, in higher social circles, to go with the message: "Rich & Powerful People Can Do No Wrong", which is extremely worrying. When was the last time we had a "Robin Hood" or a "Zorro" movie?
Women had LOADS of things in the middle ages. "Women's work" was extremely important. One of the most important ones was weaving and spinning, making tread and from that tread, making clothing. Women did that because A) it was safer work that could be - and should be - done indoors, and B) having smaller and more nimble fingers in general meant they were much better suited for it, and so this task - among many, many tasks - fell to women. Weaving and cloth-making was ABSURDLY important, it's hard to over-state HOW important it was. It made money. Bolts of cloth sold for more than their weight in coin, EVERYONE needed clothing and the other efforts such work brought, like tapestry-making. Woman had 'stages' of different things being important. At younger ages beauty was ofc important, for breeding, thus how good they were for marrying and etc. And as they grew older, and were expected to know more, having learned more tasks and getting better at them, their value as breedable ladies waned - because the average woman was expected to be a married mother - and they phased more into other domestic chores like the aforementioned LITERALLY MAKING MONEY BY THEIR HAND-CRAFTS that only women did that well. The idea that women 'had nothing but their beauty' in the past is a modern-day revision from ideologues that downplay the worth and importance women have had in ALL of Human history, because they benefit from it.
my favorite part again is when they take old movies and wokeness reprise the roles into what Disney thinks is fine now. Little mermaid, now this. How about Disney you do what the great Disney people did long ago, MAKE NEW MOVIES and shows instead of rehashing old ones into wokeness.
The that asked "me???" As soon as he objected, she whistles and they all became hypnotized, except Grumpy. I bet Grumpy will be used as a floor mat in this one.
It pisses me off that the new one is like “she’s such a leader! Look at her telling all the MEN what to do!” When all men I’ve ever worked with agree; we work 10X harder for the leader who leads by DOING, not the one who just sits in their chair and delegates.
It’s both sobering and exhausting for everyone involved when I end up genuinely feeling sorry for Rachel Zegler. And I’m German, whose cultural heritage is being completely butchered, violated, and mocked here.
This "You scratch my back - I Scratch your back", in Connection to that scene is best explained with something i learned from a Documentary. A Chimp Documentary, as we share those instincts with them. A Chimp that "Scratches the Back" of another Chimp and gets "Scratch back" Socialises on a roughly same Social Status for both. A WAY higher Status Chimp would let other Chimps "Scratch his back", but, Would NOT "Scratch Back", to Signal his higher Status. That higher Status Chimp is basicly doing the lower status Chimp a Favour by showing connection to a higher Status Chimp. Thats what we find terrible about this scene as Terrible behaviour of Zegler-White here. Her behaviour Signals to the Dwarfs: "You are beneath me, Servants". And we perceive it, because she was Rescued and isnt Higher Staus, as Arrogant and Mean.
I knew the head of set creation for WB back in the 80's. I'd bet he could knock out that cottage set in a day. The longest part would be getting the specs from the "creators" and letting the paint dry.
I like to note particular examples like this where you can clearly see the domino effect of the change in the script making things worse, due to a change that seems down to social commentary / politics. We still don’t have the full context, but it seems pretty clear that they just don’t want a woman doing housework because of weird hyperbolic modern sensibilities. But the change makes Snow White appear awful and cringe. They’re clearly not aware or don’t even care for how it changes the character, it’s motivated by reasons completely outside of writing. Stuff like this and the Wandavision situation are the best ones to point to when people are confused about poor quality political and social commentary fucking over writing.
In the original she tidies up the house while the dwarves are at work since they were kind enough to bring her into their home and provide her with food and shelter. The little woodland critters functioning as stand ins for little kids who want to help mum around the house. In this she tells them to do it while she dances around demanding attention and doing zero work. Yeah she's definitely an modern empowered woman alright.
My boys always loved Mirror Mirror! It is a great Snow White story with real dwarves and Julia Roberts as the evil queen. A lasting favorite at this house!
Devils advocate, in the original, when the Queen asks “who’s the fairest of them all”, she is clearly asking who is the most beautiful, she vain, but the mirror may well have responded with the perspective on inner beauty, which the Queen misinterpreted But even in this case, the new movie does not suggest Snow White has inner beauty…
The opening shot and interior screams "AI generated"... but stereotypically so. The longshot of the cabin did not need such crazy overgrowth. A lot of shapes seemed hard to register. The interior woodwork looks manic, but nothing is made with an intent to "draw focus" to it. Usually, in shot composition for film, you do not want to overstimulate the audience in every shot so you use the environment to draw audience attention to certain things (movement, where someone is looking, horizon lines, images creating angles directing the audience where to look, camera motion). In the cabin shots... it look rushed for design, like they threw a property into Midjourney and plopped out something, anything, with the first couple prompts! My feeling is, Disney had a different set and filmed so much with the "barista folk" then had to omit it ALL after backlash and the cabin we see is Disney going HEAVY AI to overcome time issues and save a modicum of budget, but without including more artists to "correct" issues with the prompts because the last thing they need is the story to break that Disney outsourced their artists for AI for the film.
They should have just kept the diverse elves singing kumbaya and holding hands while cleaning that damn house together with Snow white chilling on the couch eating apple chips lol
But they didn't show the part where Snow White goes to the National Association for the Advancement of Dwarvish People and forms a committee that petitions the king to lower taxes on minerals and precious stones mined within the kingdom allowing the dwarves to invest that money back in their community. 13% of the population mines 50% of all rare-earth minerals in the kingdom, after all.
I always saw the original "whistle while you work" scene as Snow White turning a group chore into a fun & enjoyable task. Sure, she had each of the dwarfs doing something, but so did she, so they all went about the job of cleaning equally and her leadership ability made it a positive task.

The message is that men should be slaves to women. They're very consistent in this message.

German has been re-interpreted, for modern audiences...
pretty isn't strong enough, schön means beautiful.
But this is Disney, that'S the least they got wrong in making Grimm's fairy tales PG.
@@pygmalion137 Very true, although the mirror can have a deeper meaning in a metaphorical sense, the source material the whole farce is based upon doesn't warrant that. Also, I doubt that the writers and producers have the mental capacity to think on that level.
@@Waltham1892 I know you're joking but please stop, I beg you
As a German, I can put the debate of how „fair“ is to be interpreted to rest. Schneewittchen is a German fairy tale. The original text is: „Spieglein, Spieglein an der Wand: wer ist die schönste Frau in dem ganzen Land?“ Which translates into: „Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the most beautiful woman in the entire country?“
And yea, no: Between Zegler and Gadot, that would objectively be Gadot.
How about a Snow Black?

"Fairest now refers to who's the most fair and just"
Then why the hell does the Evil Queen ask a mirror for his opinion on personality?

Thus we can conclude that the dwarves must be more evil than the Queen and so deserve Snow White as a punishment?
Someone more woke than her🤦♀️
OG Snow White showed her beauty through her thoughts and actions, by being kind, grateful, and considerate towards the rough and rugged dwarves.
Casting Farquaad as Snow White was a bold move.

@@lea-anne9133 Yes; ashamed, horrified, and ANGRY AS HELL!
I know right. And why does Snow need to be a 'girl boss'. That's not even relevant to the original story in any way shape or form.
The 1937 timeless classic would absolutely wipe the floor with the 2024 modern day trash.

@@galpeleg143 you think they dont want her to clean cause of stereotype maid image?
I can't wait for his Snow White analysis.
I always felt that Enchanted was overlooked and underrated. That was an enjoyable movie.
Yes! Enchanted is awesome!

Its literally as simple as "you saved me, let me help you as thanks"
@@primesonic4459 Yep but the important bit she doesn't even know who her rescuers are. Why the fck are the dwarves in this scene?
Walt Disney waters down every fairy tales he does because most of these stories doesn't have a happy endings
The original - when adjusted for inflation - was one of the most profitable movies of all time. This will be lucky if it gets its investment back.
In the original, Snow White says, "And I'll take the broom." In the new, she gives the broom to one of the Dwarves and says, "And HE'LL take the broom." *emphasis added
My immediate thought was, "Okay.
@@ThaSlymes They even changed one other line, so they can say, "See? We didn't just change that."
Thats what i thought. Modern feminism is afraid to show a woman in a traditional role.
Wait.
For a dwarf, is a micromanager the same as a regular manager?
I like jokes about terminologies.
If memory serves right, Snow White and her animal friends cleaned the house before she even met the dwarves.
I'm pretty sure in the original she's delegating to the animals.

WHat are the moral lessons from Snow White ChatGPT: The story of Snow White imparts several important moral lessons that resonate with readers of all ages. Here are some key themes and takeaways:
1. The Dangers of Envy and Vanity
The Queen's jealousy of Snow White's beauty drives her to commit cruel and malicious acts, such as ordering Snow White's death. This teaches the lesson that envy and vanity can lead to destructive and evil behavior. Constantly comparing oneself to others can foster bitterness and unhappiness, as seen in the Queen's obsession with being "the fairest of them all."
2. Inner Beauty vs. Outer Beauty
Snow White is celebrated for her kindness, innocence, and pure heart, which attract others to help her, including the huntsman, animals, and the dwarfs. The value of inner beauty is emphasized over physical appearance, showing that a person’s true worth is found in their character, not just in how they look.
3. Good Triumphs Over Evil
Despite the Queen's attempts to destroy Snow White, the story concludes with Snow White’s rescue and the Queen’s downfall. This conveys the moral that evil may seem powerful, but it is ultimately self-defeating, and good will always prevail in the end.
4. The Importance of Kindness and Compassion
Snow White's gentle and compassionate nature wins her the affection of many. She is kind to the animals, the dwarfs, and even initially shows no malice toward the Queen. Kindness and compassion bring rewards, as those who are good-hearted tend to receive kindness in return.
5. Beware of Strangers
Snow White’s trusting nature almost leads to her demise when she accepts the poisoned apple from the disguised Queen. This reflects the lesson that one should be cautious of strangers, especially those with unknown intentions.
6. The Consequences of Deception
The Queen disguises herself and uses trickery to harm Snow White, but in the end, her deceit leads to her own destruction. Deception and lies may work temporarily, but they have serious consequences, reinforcing that honesty is always the better path.
7. Teamwork and Friendship
The seven dwarfs protect and care for Snow White, offering her refuge and forming a strong bond with her.

I really don't care about watching the West Side Snow White.

Mirror - " Yes...."
Queen - "Cool.."
The End...
Nowadays, TV commercials are longer than that would be. Their budgets are bigger too.
The "fairest" thing:
There's a very important historical context to the Evil Queen being worried about getting old and Snow White becoming more beautiful than she was.
(That's Cinderella's entire plot.)
I think the "Snow White" version that better exposed why the Evil Queen wanted Snow White dead was the version with Sigourney Weaver (1997's Snow White: A Tale of Terror).
This is an outstanding explanation. Thank you.
It's not history.
It's a fairy tale.
And in this fairy tale the queen is very powerful.
So the queens of England were not powerful?
Lol.
My favorite part is the one dwarf acting like a simp when handed a broom.
my favorite part again is when they take old movies and wokeness reprise the roles into what Disney thinks is fine now. Little mermaid, now this. How about Disney you do what the great Disney people did long ago, MAKE NEW MOVIES and shows instead of rehashing old ones into wokeness.
The that asked "me???"
As soon as he objected, she whistles and they all became hypnotized, except Grumpy. I bet Grumpy will be used as a floor mat in this one.
@@XiaoFury they're all being used as dormats.
original: I'll use the broom
remake: YOU use the broom
😂
“Me?!” 😂
I like that snow brown is supposed some great leader, with absolutely no experience.
It pisses me off that the new one is like “she’s such a leader! Look at her telling all the MEN what to do!” When all men I’ve ever worked with agree; we work 10X harder for the leader who leads by DOING, not the one who just sits in their chair and delegates.
Leading by example is toxic masculinity, don't you know 🤷🏻♂️
It’s both sobering and exhausting for everyone involved when I end up genuinely feeling sorry for Rachel Zegler. And I’m German, whose cultural heritage is being completely butchered, violated, and mocked here.
Plot twist: Gal Gadot is the real snow white. The witch just swapped their faces but the magic mirror can't lie 😂
Very interesting
Monke
The trailer was going to be rationed to death just based on the controversial history, the trailer not being good did not help the situation.
3:11 If I were an actor, I would NOT want to be any where near Zegler. Green Screens are the only way I'd share the stage with her.
My boys always loved Mirror Mirror! It is a great Snow White story with real dwarves and Julia Roberts as the evil queen. A lasting favorite at this house!
Devils advocate, in the original, when the Queen asks “who’s the fairest of them all”, she is clearly asking who is the most beautiful, she vain, but the mirror may well have responded with the perspective on inner beauty, which the Queen misinterpreted
But even in this case, the new movie does not suggest Snow White has inner beauty…
EXACTLY!💯💯
"Who's fairest of them all?"
"Snow White."
Also Snow White: "Y'all work in the mines, so clean up this fukkin house!"
That's fair.
Love how The Critical Drinker analyses the og story of Snow White. We need more of that
