I read Tarka The Otter as a kid and fell in love with Otters. I also love Racoons too. A woman in London owned one and she entered it into dog shows which was so funny and amazing to see.

Of course, wild otters are more likely to die of disease, predators, or simply becoming too old to feed themselves well. Siri's estimate is probably accurate for wild Asian small-clawed otters (which, I think, is the species shown in the movie).
