- An "extreme" G5 geomagnetic storm reached Earth on Friday, NOAA's Space Weather Prediction Center said, after issuing a watch earlier in the day warning of the potential for a severe impact. Lauren Pozen reports.
They don't want a panic so all the news channels are mostly talking about the pretty lights in the sky.

It's not a weather phenomenon, but a solar atmospheric phenomenon. Lightning, thunder, rainbows, hurricanes and tornados are all weather phenomenon.
That explains why I am awake at 2am going to my fridge to save some food from solar radiation.

I saw on NOAA SWPC Electric Power Community Dashboard that the aurora could potentially be seen as far south as Texas and Florida. Awesome opportunity for those fortunate enough to witness the aurora

I have my battery bank sitting in a home made faraday cage and I’m monitoring the CME reports as they come in, I disconnect the panels and seal the faraday cage before they hit to save the battery but there’s no saving the panels if the voltage increases too much. If they blow I’ll buy flexible panels next time so I can easily remove them and quickly slide them into another home made faraday cage. This could be a very expensive weekend for us solar enthusiasts.

the swpc classified this as a g4 at first, then a g5 geostorm. which we have not had one since 2005
Droughts are tied to the 22 year sunspot cycle. The cycle changed a year ago and the increase in sunspot activity is responsible for increasing storms and rain / snowfall.

Took a pic of the sun this morning as it rose. It was EERIE, the sky is full of smoke, and it shone through like slightly fluorescent, and it had a RED RING around the entire sun. Also there are fires overnight somewhere...it is affecting my sinuses. You can see the smoke. Central Florida on the Atlantic.

Night sky was orange tonight, and my cell phone signal was spotty all evening long. I was wondering what was causing all of this, and now i found the reason why. Does anyone know if more solar storms means extra uv rays to protect one's self from the sun? It also felt extra stingy on my arms and neck the sunshine did during the day.
