In one of their videos I saw that they wanted people to break and build in the trial chambers more. I actually think the lack of symmetry was them trying to say: this is what a ladder looks like, fix the other one. The update with the broken ladders probably wasn't even 'Mojang gets mad'. Instead, I just think they're saying "ok, so it needs to be symmetrical or else it's unsatisfying and also you don't need to place a ladder you can just jump up, got it." And, by breaking the ladders they're implementing their original idea of 'build and break stuff' while also making it so you need to place stuff + it's symmetrical.

Doesn't need a new recipe or ladder type, just more variety in ladders, sticks, etc. Need sticks to come in more flavors. Heck, let's go all out and get custom data for anything built with any wood. Build a netherite sword with cherry sticks, get a grey sword with a pink hilt.

I honestly like the broken up randomness of the ladders. Makes the chambers feel a tad more worn and used rather than sparkly new as if the chambers were recently made.
there’s also frequently water buckets in dispensers with pressure plates above them, meaning it just spits out the item. also in some rooms the walls eat the dispensers entirely

Trials chambers reminded me, around a week ago my cousin made a new world and under his base he discovered 7 connected trial chambers Edit: I havent found one before so idk how big one is but my cousin showed me for a sec and it looked huge and told me its like 7.
They also made the new encounters rooms (but very, very rare) and one of them has upside-down spike(or stalagtites) on THE FLOOR and broken rotted ladders for when falling down, also stalagtites is the ceiling one but it's on the floor(looked really cursed) so you can still survive when fall.
It was mentioned on the minecraft yt channel that the reason some ladders are gone is because they want to remind you that you still have the ability to just place/break blocks to get through the whole thing, they literally said that.
I (wishfully) thought it was intentional, but not because they wanted you to place a singular ladder, but instead imagined that that was happening because, as can be told from the old murals, strange carvings in the rock, buried nature of the structure, and mainly, the complete oxidisation of large parts of the structure, this was likely a very old place which had gone under maintained for a very long time, and perhaps its age led to the wearing down of the infrastructure, and maybe they just started adding more details like this due to the more recent lore focus, and focus on the “ancient” with the previous Wild Update and Trails and Tails update. (Inside i did mainly think it was just an accidental inconsistency)
