My husband says it best, anytime Kelly sings a song it sounds like it was written for her. It’s wild.
That's called talent.
She has a few holes in her arsenal of amazing versatility, but they are few and far between. She knows extremely well what works for her and what doesn't.
After hearing Kellys version, I can only listen to that one. The notes, the rawness, emotions… they hit different.
For me , Billie's version is more for young people ( late teens , early 20's) . Kelly version is for more for older people that have been through hell and back in a marriage or relationship. Both ladies are very talented. Kelly just slays any song she does !!
If you seen the video or Billie sing it live. all of these huge belts that Kelly unleashes in the video are just marked as inaudible screaming as she's laying in the rain on a roof so she actually doesn't sing that part and Kelly blows it out of the water with a massive belt over and over there are very significant differences between the versions and I agree that there's a certain amount of pain and crud you have to go through in life to be able to be that anger.
I agree with Jenni. Kelly has soul so you really feel that connection of pain. Plus Kelly's version is more rock and Billie's is more chill and laid back so I guess it depends on your music style.
Billie's gives me nostalgia, Kelly's breaks my heart.

The whole issue with miss KC covering songs is that she nearly always delivers on another level, completely blowing the originals out of the water. I have tons of respect for Billie Eilish, no way Kelly could write her songs or even write songs as well, but there is also no way in the world that Billie could perform this song so well and with so much impact.
Tbh this song especially the intense part requires a stronger, powerful voice and that's what Kelly brings..

I completely agree now I will give Billie the credit I believe she and her brother wrote it and wrote the music. I personally don't care for her voice having been taught to sing not having diction really annoys me and she has none, but when it comes to that climax there's a complete difference between a teen girl who's had a crappy boyfriend and a grown woman/ mother who has had so much crap happen to her in her life including the douchebag x .
There's a level of anger and pain that can only come from having actually lived life longer than a teenager and then isn't a hit on Billy cuz I know someone will come after me and yes my phone spells it wrong every time and I don't feel like fixing it
@@someonenew5198 but honestly I think you acknowledge the fact that one person is just a better singer also is able to convey emotion way more anger and mature emotion differently as an adult than a child.
@@jenniwilliams3295 it's not just the experience..yes that's a factor too but the power behind the voice plays the most important role here. Billie is a good singer but she doesn't have the power to convey the intense part of the song. If you watch her performances of this song, at that intense part, she will always be drown by the audience. If it was Kelly or literally any powerful vocalists, they will drown the loud voice of audience instead.
When she hits that verse..."do you read my interviews....", I get Judy Garland vibes. Am I wrong? Does anybody else hear that? Kelly's one of the best out there, currently. Vocally she can do no wrong. Loved your review. Brad, has anybody ever told you that you have a GREAT voice for radio?
I definitely hear it but Judy was also very talented and the beginning of this song reminds me of a much older kind of music so it makes sense.

No I’m sorry it’s nothing to do with audience or aiming for it. At the end of the day it’s range, Kelly took it and brought it somewhere she can take you, bring you back, stop for gas and change a tyre. Billie is AMAZING, I fucking love her and her whole background but Kelly now OWNS that song, end of discussion

I love both versions.. its as you say a different feel because of their different dynamics and vocals. But maybe because I'm Kelly's age I relate more to her emotive powerful version of this. While Billie's version is emotive but more in a moody way.. if that even makes sense. I just loved watching your reaction. When she hit that huge belt and then went higher, its everything.

Also I'd have to say if I were an artist while I guess I understand not wanting someone to cover your song I'd feel honored as heck if Kelly were the person to do it. Yes she adapts it to herself sometimes but she does it so respectfully and I feel she also does so well with them all that its I think a huge compliment for her to want to cover it. and hey if anyone is going to slay your song, why not let it be her.

Miley is lacking the ability to belt she's also not the best at emoting even the climb which is a super emotional song feels flat to me from her not that she's a bad singer just different I guess don't think it has the guts that this song needs. Pink I will agree if there's any singer in this generation who can come close or equal to Kelly it's Pink. And she can show some damn emotion that is for sure .
Omg yes Pink was the first person I thought of to do this and deliver it with the intensity it needed. Kelly however has absolutely smashed it and made it sound exactly how I imagined it should do. But omg pink doing it aswell would just be the best thing!!

I have to agree, I wasn’t into Billie’s version, no offense to her. I don’t know why, I guess it didn’t feel emotional enough for me. I also prefer Kelly’s singing style, so I love this version. She has that ability to make me like a song I didn’t like in the past and do a whole 180 on it. Same thing happened with Fake Plastic Trees. I couldn’t connect to that one until she covered it. Not to take anything away from the original artists at all. I just love the way Kelly sings.

Wow - first time hearing the clean version of it, and it totally ruins the song. I had been warned that the filters were extreme, and for real it cuts the music and everything. I don't think I've ever heard "bleeps" sound that awful. The unedited version of the song is everything.

Since he is listening on her official youtube channel this is the explicit version that bleep was his own editing. The supposed clean version available on Apple Music is actually good and not bleeped like that :)

The censorship of the non-PG language just left some gaping holes in the song, ruining it for the most part, including the crescendo. Kinda sad, I would never listen to another censored version ever again. Part of the power is in a bit of these stronger words. It's just words and they are the original lyrics, no need for censorship.
That said, if you listen to them together, Kelly completely blows Billie out of the water. They are not comparable. Though insane props for Billie Eilish for writing such an amazing song, the credit goes to Kelly for slaying the song.
Just like with other artists (olivia rodrigo for example), this is just an unfair comparison in every way. I would respect the hell out of Kelly for being so awesome to cover my song, but I also would be terrified of how bad I would look in comparison, as face it .. almost anyone would.

She sounds nothing like Billie! Lol I love Billie and am in no way saying she’s a bad vocalists but she isn’t a singer like Kelly. Kelly is a vocal legend. Billie is more of a soft spoken singer and even has admitted herself that she isn’t a powerhouse vocal. That’s why this works is cause Billie can write and Kelly can sang!!!

I remember Kelly from the the first season of American Idol....she's great in her own regard but I think Billie edges her out.
