I want to show how this, is creative storytelling.
I personally think they passed away at the start and not the end.
The pills are a representation of death and a new way of "Biting the bullet".
The sequences throughout the video are just memories they are reliving in their last hours.
The glitches are how their memories are not perfect and trying to piece together everything.
I want to describe just how pure this is.
At the beginning of their flashback, it shows the man without his girl, enjoying his time with his friends and their female companions.
It shows him getting a tattoo by himself or with friends.
All of them are smiling including the man with the blonde highlight in his hair. Towards halfway through the video, the gang enters a train.
After entering the train, the camera shows the man with the highlight making a very upset face. That is directly before it shows her face.
All of a sudden the smiles disappeared. Now hes getting tattoos with her instead of alone or with the gang.
She is included in their meets and it appears most of them warmed up to her by the dancing scene.
All of them except for one. The man with the highlight still never smiles throughout the video. He is either jealous or spiteful of our protagonist.
Later it shows the main protagonist tends to spend a load of time with her alone and not with any of his friends. Usually it seems in private.
This leads to a quick scene of her singing with the gang. This could be a representation of her being officially one of them as she wears his jacket (Big deal in that era).
Immediately afterwards, the fight scene arrives. It appears to be the point where the highlighted man finally has had enough.
This was a memory of the protagonist fighting for the love of his girl.
The man with the highlight might have loved her as well but the only memories that the couple remembers of him, are the ones of him being jealous or spiteful.
This explains why he is smiling in a scene before her and not after.
The man remembers his friend being happy before her but both know it didn't end that way.
Furthermore, the story finally comes to an end, as it flashes through multiple memories at once, to finally conclude with them running away together.
This could be symbolism for him giving up the bad boy act for her. Running away from gangs and such to be alone with her for the rest of his life.
Sadly, the last scene is the realization that this is all just a memory unfolding before them.
They are passing on and in an abandoned place where nobody seems to be around.
Could be another metaphor, for your one true love always being there for you, even in the darkest places.
Even til death.
I may have read into a lot, but I don't feel like it gets enough credit.
(Edit: After rewatching this over and over, I noticed a detail I missed. I am unsure if it is a mistake or not but, in the beginning you see the older man with ONLY one tattoo "A star" then after transforming, he has many... Is this a possible wish for them to experience a new life entirely? Im interested to hear your thoughts.)
