I was in a 5 star hotel in Bali. Someone had purchased some play guns for 2 boys. I saw them shooting Koi in the decorative stream running through the hotel. The gun was strong enough to kill the fish. I contacted the front desk and the family was immediately removed from the hotel by the police. They came back the next day but the hotel refused to let them stay and no refund. I happened to be sitting in the airy lobby reading when it unfolded. All the pleading and begging didn’t get the result they wanted. It was super high season so few quality hotels would be available. Play stupid games win stupid prizes. Those guns would have been confiscated at the airport in a heartbeat.
We were recently on Royal and there was a group playing LRC for money in the Viking lounge. The only thing that made me shake my head was that they were playing while there was a small music ensemble singing/playing. They didn’t care and they weren’t quiet. I thought that was very rude to the entertainers!
Thank you Carnival for preventing this child from hitting other passenger as he 'plays' with his Nerf gun. This goes into the column of "What were you thinking!!!???"
Hey Tony recently on a Carnival ship and our solution to the left right game was Poker chips every one got Poker chips for one dollar chip and the pot was left in our cabin and after the game was over, went to the cabin and gave them their money
Wait, I'm confused... The trip to Disney AND A FLIPPIN' Cruise weren't gifts enough???? Like what the Actual Heck???? I got a Coke & A Smile most Christmases and enjoyed it!!! Ridiculous!
Is the vacation not a present enough? My parents gave me a trip to Disneyland for my 10th birthday, I was beyond excited. As you said, go the gift shop and get him some lego or something.
I genuinely love the way that you address these obnoxious, entitled, ignorant cruisers (lol; I’ve yet to cruise and I already knew better). Thanks for bringing humor, giving some grace and making it a teachable moment. Truly, informative and entertaining. As “just a guy”, I’ll be more blunt. I’m sick to death of people (who seem disproportionately to be Americans) who think that somehow every rule should be bent or broken just for them. No. Stop. If I were in charge, the ban hammer! 🔨Really. Ignorance and misunderstanding are forgivable. Hell, it’s okay to disagree. But in both instances, there was zero reason for these cruisers to be upset. And in all seriousness, folks like this need to face consequences. People. 🤦🏻♂️
Gaming is a highly regulated activity and since most cruise ships follow Nevada gaming laws, there’s probably a prohibition against unorganized gambling outside of the ship’s gaming licensing.
There is no gambling on a cruise ship unless the House (Cruise Line) gets a piece of the action. 😁 The location of gambling on the ship is not a factor; it’s their loss of revenue.
RE: Gift confiscation: We took our then son on a christmas cruise once. We packed small gifts in our luggage (because why wouldn't we?) and then we went to the gift shop and bought the ship and some of the toys they had. Heck they even gift wrapped it for us on Royal Carib. And you know what? HE LOVED THEM
I had an actual packaged version of Left Right Center growing up that came in a tube with the dice and a handful of yellow chips/tokens. The tube made it travel friendly and I assume since you don’t have to use money anymore then it would be allowed
On my most recent cruise, not a group cruise, we had a Facebook page with probably around 30-40 people posting that was started several months before embarkation. Once on the ship a group slot pull was organized where everyone put in $20, and everyone got 5 pulls on the chosen machine. At the end there was over $4200.00, and those who played walked away about $100 richer. There are ways to gamble, have fun and stay within the rules on the ship. As for the toy gun? Common sense ain't so common.
You talked about left, right, center but the cruises lines have Bingo in other areas then the cassinos. The last NCL cruise they were selling bingo cards in the main auditorium and someone won anothet cruise as a grand prize.
we play this game with kids/grandkids at christmas in our home. we do one dollars/lotto tickets, and candy. add a lil gift to middle too and we love it. never thought to do on ship as so busy and everyone is everywhere. loved this video, funny...
Actually, Carnival doesn't own the casinos onboard. They partner with Bally's Corporation. I asked an officer and validated it on Bally's website. Now...I'm sure that CCL Gets a cut. Why else would they have a casino ??
Right. Basically they don’t want completely unregulated gambling. They can probably get into a good of trouble for that. The solution is to provide the game in the casino like they do with poker. Everyone ponies up an extra buck for the house.
The right left center game I bought came with faux/ fake money. Leave the real $$ in an envelope in tbe cabin. Try that. At the end of the cruise pay the winner.
Before getting on a plane or a cruise ship, I make sure to check the prohibited items list. And I mean like a week before, just to be sure nothing has changed. I'll be figuring out what version of an extension cord-like thing I can bring before my next cruise. What I have was fine before but it may not be now, so I'll check. I don't want any part of my cruise (or flight) to be less enjoyable because I won't be able to have something I brought with me. That might suck. Possibly even a lot, especially when it comes to my setup for charging devices. I use my cell phone as a noise machine while I sleep so that thing needs to be plugged in while I sleep, and there aren't always ways to charge them by the bed. So yeah, I'll be checking. I'm responsible for my choices, and choosing not to check first is crazy.
If you are planning on RCL as your cruise line, just forget bringing any sort of extension cord or anything that does anything but turn high power into USB power.
@@billangell3387 I have a USB hub that plugs into the wall and gives me 4 USB slots so I suppose I can bring a power bank to plug my phone into overnight and charge it during the day. It's inconvenient, but certainly nothing to make a big stink over. Thanks for the info!
Actually, when I purchased LRC it came with chips and whenever I see it in the stores it has chips BUT whenever I've played it (not on a cruise) we always use quarters
Mini chocolate bars used to be just for Halloween. I keep a few in my freezer all the time, for when I need a quick chocolate fix and don't want to eat a large chocolate bar (which I shouldn't do anyway).
in the 60's my family made the 1000 mile trip to Disneyland over Christmas I was very worried that Santa would not find us in a hotel. well he did (imagine that)
We play LCR every cruise. I've known one group to play with buttons then settle up later. We were asked to not play in public (with money) on one cruise so got a private room. But it's ok with buttons and a settle up later
Hi Tony, another NCL Star challenge. Delta stranded I'm guessing 50-100 passengers in Atlanta on the Jan 5th Buenos Aires to Antarctica, Falkland Islands.
I'm one of them. I got the premium insurance. Hope that gets me out of this expensive long planned bucket list trip. I don't I think they're going to Antarctica anymore. March 1st is the last one on the website. I don't think I'll get my money back in time. Thanks for reading my comment.
Solution to Left Right Center that Carnival should be satisfied with...People should purchase scratch off tickets at the Casino and instead of playing for dollar bills, play for said scratch off tickets. That way, Carnival is still getting their cut.
I used to cruise only on Carnival. Then in 2024 I tried MSC, NCL and Princess (yeah, I know who owns them). Listening to these stories plus the differences with on board experiences has me sold on staying away from CCL whenever possible. They’re becoming the Walmart of the Seas (I know, a RCL ship name).
When we get together with some of our friends sometimes we play left right center and it gets wild. And sometimes we play the left-right center with the wildcard on the dice. When the Wildcard comes up on the dice, you take a dollar from someone else. And we always target the other end of the table lol. Because people can get rowdy in a fun way it draws a lot of attention.
It’s the same as being at a casino hotel in Nevada. Can’t gamble in your room, at the pool, in a restaurant. All regulated. All big no nos. Even for change.
By not allowing Gambling, even Left-Right-Center, outside of the casino which will be closed in any waters or port where gambling is prohibited, the cruise lines prevent people playing it without thinking thus subjecting the vessel to fines and possible detention.
On a recent cruise, one of the cruisers brought mini ducks, and you could “buy” three mini ducks to play LRC and then get your $ “refunded” if you won. Playing in the casino would likely be forbidden due to the laws/rules around casino playing on board ships (guessing they’re almost as restrictive as games in casinos on shore).
Any games for money with friends, family or strangers can always lead to a fight specifically when you can add the alcohol package could be a poor looser over board situation lol tks John bsuite life
My family plays L R C all the time. It is hilarious fun. I wouldn't play with strangers, nor on a cruise if against the rules. Now......if we played in our cabin, just ourselves......whose business is it?
Left Right Center is also 'banned on NCL'. Since its considered "gambling" and money involved, it has to be governed. Playing in Casino would not get around the gambling laws. Probably the only way to 'get around it' would be to play in someone's cabin OR play for something besides money. PS...trade your candy in for money with the game organizer in their cabin or something IF you have to play for actual money.
I think the parents should have thought about whatever they purchased. It has to be something that would not be on the “do not bring on board” list. Rules of rules, Christmas, Disney World, whatever…
HOW was the cruise NOT the Christmas gift??? My friend got me a cruise for my retirement gift and it was the cruise was the gift!! That is a HUGE gift in itself and not needed anything else!!!
I would have suspected that either the child wanted the star wars nerf gun, or he fell in love with it at DisneyWorld. The only problem there is that what if they had been sold out. Depending on the age of the child give him the nerf balls for Christmas.
No matter where you are going and how you are getting to the location, there are always prohibited items, and it is up to us to know what is not allowed. Plus, wouldn't the trip be the Christmas present?

Those parents were not thinking about the toy gun even if they were flying home probably would lose it at airport security. we got pulled out of line at check in s they saw a lipstick tube in my wifes bag and they had to check it out thought it resembled a shot gun shell. so I was glad they checked it out.
I have never seen tables in casino where the game could be played. They could just go play in a cabin. Don't advertise it. Some people DON'T think of don't think rules apply to them.
The people with the toy gun are lucky they didn't get kicked off the ship.they certainly shouldn't make any waves. Especially with the knowledge of what's been happening in our world today.
We did a Halloween cruise and before we went I went through security at several levels including someone over the ships security about me & my sister bringing my Ghostbusters Proton packs since we planned to dress up as Ghostbusters. They said they didn't think anyone would do anything as long as we were not acting up with them. If security did have a problem and told us to put them in the room then we would have to. Lucky no one had an issue.
The probable reason that you can't gamble outside the casino is laws. In the waters that belong to any nation, the laws of that nation apply. Imagine the legal morass the cruise ship could be in if you're caught. It's much much easier to go to the game store and get monopoly money, or little coloured disks, or any other sort of counter. For Left Right and Center use Monopoly money. Settle up after the cruise or on shore.
Good idea
Yep, I was thinking a bag of M&Ms that could easily take the token place of cash, but Monopoly money sort of 'sticks it to the Man', so why not?
That's a great idea. Monopoly $ and then Venmo.
Ok, everyone kicks in $3 then someone goes to the shops and buys something for that amount. Winner gets prize.
And play it with your own travel group in the confines of your stateroom and no one says anything to people in the public spaces.
I don't understand why people stress out over Christmas. It happens every year, same day, same time...prepare for it if it's important to you!

Bingo is classified as gambling as well, most states require a permit or license for it.
The comment gambling outside the confines of the casino is off… BINGO is gambling, and it is held outside the Casino… great point

Left Right Center games usually come with tokens for score keeping.
Regarding left right centre. I think the problem is that their gambling wasn't giving money to the cruise line
Exactly. Same deal as not being allowed to bring booze aboard.

@Reed-2big because that is what most CLs (not MSC) abide by...Nevada Gaming laws regulate US

For left, right, centre you can have the people buy playing cards so no money is on the table and whomever gets all the cards gets the money.
Don showed some pics of multiple "toy" guns that were real, including one that appeared to be made from legos
They should have tables in the casino for poker or any game you want to play they don’t have. Like left right center.
