Btw, a lot of this testing was unnecessary. Ranged units target the closest unit. Good old Pythagoras tells us that an orthogonally adjacent unit is closer than a diagonally adjacent one. It's definitely good to confirm that the Demons are correctly following the rules, but every test gave the expected result. The real value of your testing isn't whether they'd attack a certain tile, but rather how many times. Interestingly, the range 3+ Fighters were must-haves in previous seasons, but they're absolute trash on this map. The only Fighter who attacks from safety is Aracha due to her leadership, but she's not great for GvG. I expect we'll see mostly single Defender setups with 4 platform units and double defender setups.
Yeah I like to be thorough and confirm, better too much testing than too little but I take your point! Completely agree about the fighters, though Aracha can be great for control if built fast and tanky. I'm interested to see how these maps and the meta continue to evolve. Hopefully Moonton keeps shaking things up!
@@BluntgutsGaming If she's leading, she doesn't need to be tanky on this map. If you defend close to the core, there's a spot where she can hit the tile in front of your Defender, but is safe from Book Keepers. She isn't even in the path of the Demons. She's literally the only Fighter who can fulfill the traditional long-range Fighter role on this map (bc she extends the side ranges with her leadership).
I hear you but I personally wouldn't use her that way. She doesn't really bring any damage so may as well have her tanky and helping defend against a swarm. Well built she can withstand Book Keepers assuming she has a healer - Uncommon Destroyers would be another story ofc. Ymiret and Apsan (🤮 lol) would get the range benefit you're talking about and do better damage. Numera too if they ever release the update on global.
@@BluntgutsGaming Do unnamed get the faction leadership benefit? I know they can join any faction for Trials, but I didn't think they got the leadership buff. Bc Aracha and Apsan need the leadership buff to use this position. And, my bad, it does still put them in the Demon path; it just separates them from the Defender to avoid BKs and UDs. In the Keep, they can be removed from the path (allowing you to use 2 Fighters if you wanted).
@@toddmacadam3888 Yep unnamed get the lord bonus, that's what makes them so incredible! I think if you were using him or Apsan it would probably only be w/Iovar as lord because of the limited fighter spots on this map but yeah definitely an option. TBD whether it's viable or not. Looking forward to the season!!
The top left spot on the back is vulnerable to bombs when the tank is put on the closer spot making it it not absolutely secure. But there is rng involved it the tile is hit by the bombs it seams...
Interestingly, the cul-de-sac tile gets shot once by LGs when they turn the corner, so squishy long-range Fighters will be easy to delete if you can't kill the LGs before they get there. Not sure if all flyers and/or shooters also get 1 shot at this tile when they turn the corner. EDIT: Ok, so it seems to apply to all shooters.
I appreciate this!! I was running tests by myself and it was taking forever trying to find different defenses. I have a question, I have Cyrus and tbh everyone tells me hes good for GVG but i seriously dont know how to use him. Do you stack HP and DEF or use him with attack? Also you mentioned facing the skeletons the other way...i thought you would want them in front....im sorry im just really new to Cyrus so i have no clue how to use him. Any insight would be appreciate thank you again!
Hey, yeah it's going to be a tough season for defenses, no doubt about it. It seems like Moonton wants to make attacking easier, which personally I think takes some of the fun out of it haha. First off, congrats on the Cyrus! He's amazing and you're going to love him. He's an incredibly versatile hero and can be built in a variety of ways, but for GvG you're going to want to build him as tanky as possible. What that means is you want him in Guardian set or the T3 Equivalent (Tempered Fortitude I think? Can't remember the name off the top of my head) and you should be stacking HP%, DEF%, and picking up Attack Speed and Rage Regen as substats when possible. Earlier game 3x HP% main stat right side pieces is ideal, later game you can start to play around with 2x HP% + 1x DEF% main stat pieces. I typically shoot for 100k HP then try to stack defense after that on my tanks. As far as facing him away - the idea is that if you face him away from the attackers his skeletons will only die when he takes fatal damage, triggering his passive where they prevent fatal damage for him. If they're in front then they get killed and you lose that benefit. So you face him away and he becomes MUCH harder to kill because you need to land a killing blow when there are no skeletons up, not to mention any other fatal damage prevention mechanics coming from healers. He's a real headache to attack and so far has been consistently in the meta for each GvG season regardless of map. Hopefully that helps!!
@@BluntgutsGaming thank you so much for the explanation!! This is exactly what I was looking for. Got it man and I’m excited to see what I can do with him this season
Yeah I'll wait to pass judgment but I do wish that 1) there were 3 different demon soldier deployment tiles and 2) that til in the upper right hand corner did not exist lol
@@BluntgutsGaming I think this map is going to be easier for the attacker than previous maps .... I havent settled on a defense i like. Seems you are either vulnerable to being flooded by dogs and necros or your defense is weak to lightning guards ... still playing with things.
Yep that's been my experience too. Depends on the comp of course, but it can be done. I think scourge are a better solution for that tile in particular

That's a good point, I was thinking about it from ranged units but yeah definitely a counter to that tile. Thanks for watching!!
Long range fighters, mages and marksmen testing in defence.

Use rare archers on right side map ma è spot AND Use those smelly demons with a Red aoe dmg around them to easily take down the top left platform dps
