Railfanning Amtrak, CSX, & Norfolk Southern in WV/VA (July 4th, 2023)

On July 4th 2023, @railfanningwithtydan and I made the trek from Hickory NC, to Lancaster county PA. On my way up, we made two special stops for mainline trains. The first stop was 15 minutes west of Harpers Ferry WV, where we caught a Westbound NS manifest train, and the Eastbound Amtrak Capitol Limited (which featured an abbreviated consist of a baggage and 3 superliners). Next We headed to a crossing south of Lorton Virginia where we caught a Southbound Amtrak NE Regional, SB Amtrak Silver Star, NB CSX Manifest, the highlight of the day which was the Southbound Auto train (featuring two P40DC’s at the head end), and the Northbound Amtrak Carolinian. Enjoy all sorts of action on the mainline!
