Daraganj is one of the oldest localities of where Prayag was in history. It is situated at the bank of celestial river Ganges and not far from Triveni Sangam - the confluence of three sacred rivers: the Ganges and Yamuna, and the third invisible river Saraswati. The locality is a trove of pre Mughal, Mughal, Maratha Tamil, Telegu Kannad , Gujrati history and communities. Daraganj is a maze of narrow lanes and by lanes that eventually lead to the main road or the Ganges shore. From the Nag Vasuki Temple, Dashswamedha Ghat, Veni Madhav Temple to Todar Mal’s fort, Narala’s residence and of Course Badi Kothi. Badi Kothi is a majestic stone carved residence of a Zamindar called Perumal. It dates back to more than 400 years. It preserves historical stories in each of its corners. Let us walk through its courtyards, down the stairs into the basement, up into the balconies and stairs. And a rooftop where you could a view the Ganges. The generations that encouraged the freedom movement and much more. Let us stroll through the Badi Kothi, a part of the trio of Kothis and discover some of its hidden stories and later make sure you visit it too.
