I hada look at your Patreon and saw that you are going to make a video on the BKE sampler. How on earth do you expect to make a better video about it than this "cool dudes on the namm floor buzy looking the part to attract the ladies blurbing about sales hypes with with 1% actual info thrown into the coolness vibe laying down their thang" video ruclips.net/video/whEKpQmcO9o/видео.html ? That seems like really hard competetion. 😆
The sound you got out of it was giving me some serious GAS until you got to the software and licensing. My wallet thanks you for your service. Great video as always, look forward to them every Friday.
Well... The good thing about the UNO Pro is that you don't need the software to make full use of it and therefore don't have to necessarily register it.
@@gamma_noize For sure. But for the used prices I'm seeing I'd personally rather not buy a synth that I'm planning on not being able to access all the features/might not be "future proof". Plus as a Linux user it's a turn off for me if it seems like I won't even be able to get the software to work in Wine. And usually these app store style programs like Roland Cloud Manager refuse to work in Wine. But that's just my quirks and workflow. If someone else thinks that is a good deal for them then they'll have a pretty nice sounding instrument.
@@robmusial don't go used. They get massively discounted regularly. The desktop version was priced at 200 EUR around Christmas... I've got it as a mobile bass machine for my travel rig -it works wonders alongside hydrasynth explorer and the cobalt 5s
@@gamma_noize Hmm, I may upgrade from my original Uno Synth if the Pro has all the parameters available directly from the hardware itself. It's a great sounding synth, but only being able to access some of the features from an extremely locked down editor is frustrating.
I thought the intro tune was noticeably better than many other versions. The problem with IK Multimedia is that they think they are still selling software even when they are selling hardware.
Aaah! There it is! My beloved UNO Pro! :D I love its sound! It's everything i want from an analog mono and then some more. It's internal effects are top notch and one of the best internal FX i've got to hear so far. Yeah... The software licensing is kinda shit, but that's where you can clearly see IK's roots. 😅 The good thing is, you really don't need the editor in my opinion and you don't have to kill the resell value for it. One thing regarding the Desktop version: It gets so much flack for its capacitive keyboard, but it is what it says on the tin, a desktop sound module meant to be used with another master keybaord. The capacitve keys are just a goodie, so you can take it with you and use with an USB Power bank. And for a desktop module, i think, you can't get anything else as rich in features and sound for that little money. The nearest competitor might be the Dreadbox Typhon and the Typhon costs about 100 bucks more.
Great Video! On the license transfer, the original owner also has to be willing to transfer the license. With that being said, it is possible to get the software by reaching out to IK. I purchased an Uno drum and Uno synth second hand from the first owner, IK did assist me and provided me download links for both pieces of software.
I had the same experience with the non-pro synth; tech support gave me access to the software. We still have to ask though: why did I have to do that? Just put it on your website! If you look at the Synth Pro right now they have a "Download the free software" button at the top of the page but it doesn't work and is pretty misleading as they haven't changed the license policy AFAIK
FINALLY you did an episode about a synth I own. I had a good run this far. I wasn't looking for one, but someone offered me a basically new one for less than half retail. Everything you said was accurate. Especially all the crap IK do as a company ( i got nailed with the 'ownership transfer fee' when i wanted to access software ). (It should be noted you don't need to install any of their store software to make this work BTW). I actually really like this synth, its extremely versatile, it sounds great when you edit the effects to your liking. The fatar keyboard is super nice too (pity it doesn't have nearly enough knobs to be a contender for making it into a master midi controller) Its got a warm, unique character that works really well alongside other analogue mono's. The second jam you did was a really, really nice example of how lush the strings can sound from this thing. All the jams were really good this week, great work as always!
That last jam was great - and I think its is fair to call out those business practices. I would much rather support them if they behaved like nice people. (speaking of support - I just came back on the job market, so I'll see you on Patreon once I leave Tirol!)

This channel's presentation style would normally have me close the tab in an instant but somehow your useful information and demonstration per minute is unparalleled, not just compared to other synth videos. It's like listening to a passionate and talented educator at a rave party. Keep rocking
I've been waiting for this. This synthesizer has so much potential, but all these small negative aspects sum up pretty quickly. First and foremost, the micro USB connection and the product registration to use the software.
Microusb is cheap and plentiful, the registration cost is relatively cheap and the synth sounds frigging amazing. The complaints are nitpicking. To get this sound quality from Moog it would cost you 4 times as much. It makes a cheap tertiary unit to fill out a dawless jam setup
@@jamestillman5247 That's good they are cheap and plentiful because you will have to replace this shitty port every time you move the synth. The registration fee is just insulting. When I've registered my focusrite interface after circa 8 years from my purchase (I forgot about it), I got a free shitton of quality plugins and instruments that were selling for more than my interface was worth. The same deal with another one bought used. Lastly, yes, it sounds good, but it's not cheap. It costs the same as Cobalt, Minifreak and the Blofeld Keyboard howitzer, but is built like the Donner (nothing against Donner though). All of the above would irk me enough to think twice about buying it.
@@cyshtoph well, if you have a new device there is no registration fee. I got an excellent offer and bought the Uno Synth Pro Desktop new for 215€. That actually is pretty cheap for what the synth offers. It works great with a good midi keyboard. So you don't have to do without aftertouch and other features if you have the desktop version. I also got two "free-to-pick" SE Versions of IKMs software (e.g. Modo Drum/Bass, T-Racks5, etc). The fee refers to when you sell the device or buy it used. You have to buy it from the previous owner (google IK-Multimedia license transfer fee) if you want it registered on your IKM account (to get free presets and the editor I guess). However, I am most afraid that the micro-USB connection will be defective at some point, which I have already had with several smartphones. Then the device is virtually unusable and a repair is difficult, I think. So it's best to disconnect and connect the synthesizer from the power supply unit as little as possible.
I've been really enjoying the Uno Pro. It has a very thick and pleasing sound. I've owned mine for a bit over a year and never knew about the power off 'feature'. I always just unplug it. LOL!

I bought the desktop version of this and a Korg XD recently. I've been playing on the Uno Pro almost exclusively. Even if it's a bit menu divey it sounds so good and the effects are stellar. Every single sound I can think of I can get out of Uno Pro. It's that good. If IK Multimedia ever bring out a poly version of this I will get it day one. I'm very impressed with this little unit.
Nochmal, gut gemacht. I think you fairly assessed and nailed most of the main points. I think the UNO Synth Pro sounds extremely good. With the dual-filter setup, I can get a substantial growl out of it (not unlike an MS20), and combining that with the distortion, it has some SERIOUS sonic ass-kicking potential. The feel of the keyboard keybed is one of the best ones I have, and possibly one the most enjoyable-to-play synths I own. Again, based on sound alone, I think this synth rocks. What sucks about it? First, the tank-like build coupled with a power supply plug that feels like it might snap off in a strong wind. They took a wall wart power supply and plug, and amazingly made it even more flimsy than they usually are. Second, it's an analog monosynth that can't replicate old, analog monosynth behavior. What do I mean? When glide is turned on and playing legato (pressing the next key before the previous key is released), the only 2 settings on the UNO Pro are 1) the filter envelope retriggers from the start of the ADSR envelope with EVERY key press (semi-common for VA synths, I admit), OR the filter envelope triggers ONCE with the first key press and then maintains at the sustain stage with each successive note played legato. Most classic monosynths just inherit the filter envelope value with the second legato key press, giving the synth a smoother playing experience. Lastly, the user interface and OS at times feel kind of clunky and not always intuitive. It works, but it's not one of the easier synths to navigate that I've run into. I'm sure that's why they made the second, Pro X version, with lots of knobs, trying to improve the user experience. And yeah, the company seems to be close to worthless to interface with. Fortunately I haven't had any serious problems with the synth to deal with. But hey, I did get it for a fairly low price (less than half what I paid for my Korg MS20 FS, which also sounds amazing, but has worse build quality, flimsier knobs, and a shitty, opsix-ish, toy-like keyboard feel)...so I can't complain TOO much, eh?
videos from BoBeats have gotten me interested in this synth, it sounds great but downsides seem to stack up there should be no need for license managers and authenticator software with physical hardware
The most underrated synth of recent years! Sounds amazing🖤I personally fell in love with him very much and scored on small jambs!) who do not have them
Love the sound of my Uno Synth (the original, Volca like one) but as you point out, IK Multimedia's weird licensing thing and registration hoops you have to jump through to get the software sucks.
I hadn't realised before buying the Uno Synth, that some parameters can only be accessed through the software editor. That's doubly annoying for me as I run Linux on my computer, so I had to install Windows in a virtual machine...
@@MrVleker also this weird thing that if you have e.g. a sample library you can download it only for a limited time and then need to pay again for being able to download again. Wtf!! With NI Komplete you need to download a great amount of data but I can download as often as I want to.
I once caught a Noir Et Blanc Vie livestream where he offered to give way his Uno Drum for free and even flipped it like a coin to decide to do things based on what side it landed on, it was apparently that bad and useless. Partway through the stream it turned itself on and started playing in the drawer he put it up in.
I quite liked the sound of it, I remember Paolo from Synthmania did an episode on it a little bit ago. Your demos were ace as usual and the intro was really good. The licensing for the software is a joke though, someone should crack it and pirate it xD
I know that I’m supposed to say “It sounds really good for the price!” but honestly it just makes me grateful to be an adult with a fulfilling and remunerative day job.
"I would rather spend money on some half broken antique, than from on a great synth from a company that opens a shop on my harddrive and might even charge me for it." killed me so hard. Great review as always!
That sounds really nice. Thank you for mentioning about the software as we all know that leniency in this front leads ultimately to monthly subscriptions... eventually on hardware as well.
I bought and sold one of these. The trick is to create an IK Account for just this license and then give the password to the new owner. btw, You have to have an account+license and download their software to update the firmware as well.
You might have already thought about this, but I wonder what happened to those AKAI controllers that worked with iPod/iPhone? That's what the UNO Pro reminds me of.
Awesome episode! I've got the desktop version and love it as a portable bass machine. You can get into very moog-y territories with the built in distortion and stacked oscillators too! I found it to be perfect with a pad/keys machine like the Hydrasynth explorer or cobalt 5s
ok, now you've covered almost all my synths 😂 anyway, this one has a fantastic sound and i like it's simplicity and modularity. it's a very well designed synt (i have the mini version). i don't like the (2!) micro usb connectors (why not the normal usb?). plus, for powering it, you'll need a proper adaptor. powering it from pc is not enough (it shuts down). noise only occurs with certain presets (when certain effects are involved - i understand that, it occurs with other hw effects too). but overall i love this stylish little box. it's like the italians - they have many flaws, but you just have to love them 😄❤
2:08 listening to this at 0.25x speed to catch the picture, and it sounds incredible, the youtube slow play does some looooooovely accidental modulation
As an owner of the original Uno and the first analog synth i bought, I really enjoyed it. The base is especially nice on the original and I have considered buying this as well as I like what they do and their price point
What keyboard was the half broken antique with yellow keys that makes an appearance around 9:14. Almost looked like the legendary EMU Shortboard, which was a rompler with super cool extra attack and release pots if I recall correctly.
I feel like synth design and manufacturing is the final exception to late stage capitalism, where the potential of excellence is still pursued. Korg kind of took over one of my computers kinda like UNO wants to, but these synth corporations are still making great things. Great episode!
Well presented and deserved „bad gear“. I had the keyboard version, which was immediately broken straight out of the box…Thank you! Next one: Korg Drumlogue? ;)
What's wild is how fucking ANALOGUE this thing sounds. I recommend it to everyone. I must also remind everyone that I (STG Soundlabs) made a fantastic factory sample pack for the UNO Drum, which is probably the best dollar-for-sound drum machine ever made.
I bought the original version to replace the crashy craftsynth as a small budget mono, but was really impressed with its versatility - just has this 'Crumar' kind of sound. It sounds even better in this video with the extra oscillator, proper keybed and that paraphony. I guess they didn't remove the terrible noisy output 'feature' though? Ground loop isolators seem to be an expected requirement on all budget synths these days.
That was REALLY impressive sound! I missed that one completely I guess. I never really paid attention to ik multimedia though, so I guess it makes sense lol
you always know how to reel 'm in with the thumbnail comrade.. draw 25 🤣 that volca poem is pretty good too. i look forward to pausing 50 more times to catch all these little gems!
The desktop version of the USP at its current price of $270 is probably one of the best deals for an analog synth on the market today. Yes, it's crappy plastic, and the labeling is hard to read, but its sounds damn good! Sure, I'd love to own a Sequential Pro-3, but the USP sounds nearly as good and has 90% of the same functionality for literally 1/7th the cost. This thing is great for throwing in a bag to take on vacation or play around with in a hotel room on business travel. I frequently pair and control this with a Roland Fantom 6 and it feels fantastic to add real analog sound to the Fantom for only $270. Or for some really travel friendly jamming, I pair this with a Roland JD-Xi and use the USP for the analog channel instead of the crappy/limited analog on the JD-Xi. In summary, a relatively inexpensive and easy way to add some analog goodness to your current synth rig...
The USP has a good featureset at a nice price, and seems to sound pretty decent, but yeah, there's definitely some compromises, heh. Great video (and great finale) as always! And that (almost) last line - haha! Agreed
You made that thing sound great! It will probrably turn into a novel gem of an instrument for the hardcore in 10 to 20 years. It also seems like the kind of synth that may be used to start a whole new genre.
@@rorz999 It’s always the weird/obscure instrument that’s available dirt cheap that ends up being used in currently unforeseen ways. I think this instrument falls in that category. It’s sound is good enough for radio ready audio but the interface is a bit of a turnoff to all but the most dedicated to its’ use.
Maybe you should buy a 100 and store them. In 2045 they may fund your pension😆 I think some people did that with those cheap three Akai analog thingies.
I had the desktop edition for a little while and I really liked the sound and the sound design process, but the line noise from the outputs on my unit was unbearable when recording. Ended up returning mine, but if I got one that wasn't so noisy I'd be happy to give it another go.
@audiopilz and other guy. Noise floor is mainly a problem with the desktop unit but is fixed to almost unaudible levels with a dedicated powering brick.
Welcome to bad gear the show about the world's most hated audio tools.
Vielen Dank!!!
I am curious how you get the full sound for the music in your videos. Really cool. 👌
Thank you!!!
Lets Go! I was just looking for something new to watch. Perfect timing.
Nice!!!
videos from BoBeats have gotten me interested in this synth, it sounds great but downsides seem to stack up
there should be no need for license managers and authenticator software with physical hardware
Agreed!
You think this terrible thing sounds great?! Whoa
@@EVILJAMARR You have lead ears? woah
@@EVILJAMARR yes :)
@@minecraftmondays haha to each their own, but man I feel like your precious ears deserve better ;)
The most underrated synth of recent years! Sounds amazing🖤I personally fell in love with him very much and scored on small jambs!) who do not have them
👍
Love the sound of my Uno Synth (the original, Volca like one) but as you point out, IK Multimedia's weird licensing thing and registration hoops you have to jump through to get the software sucks.
Yeah, once a software company, always a software company
@@AudioPilz but also not a great software company. Their products could be great and I love MODO Bass, but it is buggy. Same for amplitube.
You do such a good job with this show, ur editing style is teh best. Keep it up. =]. The show I mean.
Thank you so much!!!
Yeah, I saw that vid. Hilarious!
Genuinely the most balanced and insightful synth reviews around. ❤
Thank you so much!!!
I would draw 25 for you to finally release an album :^)
Cool! Can I have 25h/day? That would really help;)
What would it contain? 12 variations of the intro song, with different hardware? Honestly tho... that would still be cool.
@@hirudo881 he releases songs on his Patreon which are longer versions of the final songs in these videos
@@AudioPilz Anything for u :)
@@rorz999 I know, i tried to be funny :(
I’m kind of surprised it sounds this good. Nice work, Florian.👍
Thanks!
Would love to see you review the Bass Station 2!
Great suggestion, thanks!
@@AudioPilz Yes, would be good to see your thoughts compared to the original👍
I quite liked the sound of it, I remember Paolo from Synthmania did an episode on it a little bit ago. Your demos were ace as usual and the intro was really good. The licensing for the software is a joke though, someone should crack it and pirate it xD
Love Paolo's work!!!
I know that I’m supposed to say “It sounds really good for the price!” but honestly it just makes me grateful to be an adult with a fulfilling and remunerative day job.
That comes with some privilege indeed;)
I am an adult without a remunerative day job and I think it sounds like crap for the price. LOL
that was a fun video, thank you for the pro editing skills.
Thank you!!!
If you pause the video at 2:11 there's a dog celebrating his birthday.
Ah, you caught it!
@@AudioPilz do I get a price now for my fight club trained single frame recognition? 😜
Great show . Sounds good . Cool jams .NOW , I go slow motion meme diving at 50%speed to catch the memes . Thanks for making my Friday Awesome !
Thank you so much!!!
"I would rather spend money on some half broken antique, than from on a great synth from a company that opens a shop on my harddrive and might even charge me for it." killed me so hard. Great review as always!
Thank you so much!!!
@@AudioPilzwhat model was that smoky synth?
Hahaha @@sleepyeyedsolutions its old M-audio Venom !! Very unique. Do you really want to buy one from me, @AudioPilz ? :)
That sounds really nice.
Thank you for mentioning about the software as we all know that leniency in this front leads ultimately to monthly subscriptions... eventually on hardware as well.
Thanks for watching!!!
I bought and sold one of these. The trick is to create an IK Account for just this license and then give the password to the new owner.
btw, You have to have an account+license and download their software to update the firmware as well.
Interesting approach! Thanks for posting!
...gorgeous finale BTW..
😀😀😀
I am disciple of Nick almighty.
We all are. Amen.
You might have already thought about this, but I wonder what happened to those AKAI controllers that worked with iPod/iPhone? That's what the UNO Pro reminds me of.
These didn't age so well;)
You can't beat wintage sounds 😉
fintage sounts arr teh betst
;)
Noice - got the desktop yesterday and questioned why there is o bad gear about it yet - keep it up!
Desktop needs half the time to boot up
Nice!!! Thanks!
I'm not sure if it's the synth itself or how you've processed it, but I love the Uno Pro's use of the stereo field.
Edit: epic jams this episode!
Thank you!!!
meme density on each new video is alarming. I just have one thing to say...
MOAR PLZ
Thanks!!!
I'd rather buy a Minilogue any day of any month of any year!
I do prefer the filter on the UNO tho
@@AudioPilz true!
Awesome episode! I've got the desktop version and love it as a portable bass machine. You can get into very moog-y territories with the built in distortion and stacked oscillators too! I found it to be perfect with a pad/keys machine like the Hydrasynth explorer or cobalt 5s
Thank you!!!👍
That licence transfer shit is nonsense
I wholeheartedly agree
Well that sounded surprisingly good. I'm not sure I was even aware of it before today. Thanks.
😀
ok, now you've covered almost all my synths 😂
anyway, this one has a fantastic sound and i like it's simplicity and modularity. it's a very well designed synt (i have the mini version). i don't like the (2!) micro usb connectors (why not the normal usb?). plus, for powering it, you'll need a proper adaptor. powering it from pc is not enough (it shuts down). noise only occurs with certain presets (when certain effects are involved - i understand that, it occurs with other hw effects too). but overall i love this stylish little box. it's like the italians - they have many flaws, but you just have to love them 😄❤
2:08 listening to this at 0.25x speed to catch the picture, and it sounds incredible, the youtube slow play does some looooooovely accidental modulation
Slowed and reverb;)
Great job on the jams here Florian. :)
Thank you!!!
As an owner of the original Uno and the first analog synth i bought, I really enjoyed it. The base is especially nice on the original and I have considered buying this as well as I like what they do and their price point
Sound was not the issue with the original Uno;)
I have this, great sound, love it. IK Multimedia never sent my promotional gig bag. You're right on about the software.
I wan that gig bag now!!!
Nice sounding with a hellish interface.
Some might take the bite, muehehehee
Great as always
Cheers
Cheers!!! Thanks!
What keyboard was the half broken antique with yellow keys that makes an appearance around 9:14. Almost looked like the legendary EMU Shortboard, which was a rompler with super cool extra attack and release pots if I recall correctly.
M-Audio Venom - it's cursed;)
Thanks Florian. Really nice sounds you got there, I mean REALLY nice. Colour me surprised. A kind of purply green I believe.
Thank you so much!!!
I feel like synth design and manufacturing is the final exception to late stage capitalism, where the potential of excellence is still pursued. Korg kind of took over one of my computers kinda like UNO wants to, but these synth corporations are still making great things. Great episode!
Agreed, thanks!!!
Well presented and deserved „bad gear“. I had the keyboard version, which was immediately broken straight out of the box…Thank you! Next one: Korg Drumlogue? ;)
Great suggestion, thanks!
Another great video as always
Thanks!!!
What's wild is how fucking ANALOGUE this thing sounds. I recommend it to everyone.
I must also remind everyone that I (STG Soundlabs) made a fantastic factory sample pack for the UNO Drum, which is probably the best dollar-for-sound drum machine ever made.
👍
I bought the original version to replace the crashy craftsynth as a small budget mono, but was really impressed with its versatility - just has this 'Crumar' kind of sound. It sounds even better in this video with the extra oscillator, proper keybed and that paraphony. I guess they didn't remove the terrible noisy output 'feature' though? Ground loop isolators seem to be an expected requirement on all budget synths these days.
Yeah, the Italian sound is strong with this one
That was REALLY impressive sound! I missed that one completely I guess. I never really paid attention to ik multimedia though, so I guess it makes sense lol
Truly liked the sound too!
you always know how to reel 'm in with the thumbnail comrade.. draw 25 🤣 that volca poem is pretty good too. i look forward to pausing 50 more times to catch all these little gems!
Thanks!!!
That's a reasonable price indeed
Drop that price to $199, and I’d pick it up. Cheaply made synths need to be cheap…
The USP has a good featureset at a nice price, and seems to sound pretty decent, but yeah, there's definitely some compromises, heh.
Great video (and great finale) as always! And that (almost) last line - haha! Agreed
Thank you!
Man that is a happy dog at 2:11
❤️❤️❤️
You made that thing sound great! It will probrably turn into a novel gem of an instrument for the hardcore in 10 to 20 years. It also seems like the kind of synth that may be used to start a whole new genre.
It sounds decent but I don't hear anything that will lead to the creation of a new genre. Pretty run of the mill sounds
Maybe I should actually get one;)
Maybe you should buy a 100 and store them. In 2045 they may fund your pension😆 I think some people did that with those cheap three Akai analog thingies.
3min into the video and so far I like the sound and filters much better than expected… let’s wait to the end though…
The sound is not the problem;)
I never see it before .....looks great for 500 ca dls no bad.
Thanks for all the content Mr. all the best from Toronto.
💯🎶😎🙌🏽
Thanks!!!
I had the desktop edition for a little while and I really liked the sound and the sound design process, but the line noise from the outputs on my unit was unbearable when recording. Ended up returning mine, but if I got one that wasn't so noisy I'd be happy to give it another go.
Yeah, noise floor is an atrocity on this one
@audiopilz and other guy. Noise floor is mainly a problem with the desktop unit but is fixed to almost unaudible levels with a dedicated powering brick.
Welcome to bad gear the show about the world's most hated audio tools. Episodes like this wouldn't be so awesome without our synth loving-host, his keen sense of humor and his ability to combine deplorable electronics with equally deplorable memes following his own particular idiomatic paradigm that combines cheesy and relevant reactions with downright silly but spot on criticisms, leaving viewers both entertained, informed, and wanting this synth, but already having all the synths at home.
Thank you so much!!!
The sound demos at the beginning are so nice
Thank you!
I love your robotic mannerisms so much
Thank you!!!
A fair and balanced application of memes and sarcasm. bravo!
Thank you!!!
