Your Uncle Vernon Ray had bought a 3 acre place in Accokeek Maryland. His “studio” setup was too loud for the basement so a former chicken coop became Wray’s Shack Three Track, a place where the band could kick back after gigging in the biker clubs of “ Washington, D.C. I'm Mexican my uncles went to high school with Pete Depoe original drummer for Redbone & have a few crazy stories but yes Indians from both sides of the border have a big history in rock ✌❤

I'm a native from Chihuahua Mexico Tarahumara ... and I was having a conversation with a native lady and I mentioned the word Indian and she says what do you mean by Indian. I said you know, and she said no I don't know. So I explained to her about Indian tribes and she said... Oh! We don't use the word Indian we used the word natives I learn something new. We are not indians Indians was created by Christopher Columbus when he was heading to India searching for spices. He ended up in native land because they were dark people he thought he landed in India. So he called them Indians that's where the word "Indian" come were native different native tribes.... I don't use the word Indian is misleading buy a European Christopher Columbus that invaded our native land stole our gold, stolen our land, and Massacre are native tribes genocide... and then they come around and steal our rock and roll music.... invented by natives damn these Europeans steal everything...

These guys were supremely proud, writing songs like Come And Get Your Love, Witch Queen of New Orleans, Wovoka, Fais Do, Chant13th Hour, Custer Had it Coming, We Were All Wounded At Wounded Knee, Message From a Drum, Crazy Cajun Cakewalk Band. Check these guys out; they remained true.
this is great & needed, my favorite group of iyf NDN rock music was XIT & Plight in 1972 was the most incredible alum put together I thought, all of this is a deep rich history that needs to be told in full
Pulp fiction independence day blow.I was blessed to see Link Ray perform in Ann Arbor Michigan.Dustin Donaldson my nephew played drums with Link Conan O'brien RUMBLE .Link invented the rock and roll power cord .
Hey Stevie...great piece. I had no idea the women you worked with did Reel Injun. LOVE that flick, too. And I concur with Christina - even with Iggy & Kramer and all the legendary rockers in your film, John Trudell is still the most fascinating person you interviewed. I'm so glad he got to be in this before he passed. (next time think about losing the gum, rock star! heee love ya) And I'll KEEP saying it --- as I have from Day 1 --- I think this very well may be the Most Important Rock Doc yet. Many kudos on an outstanding piece of work! This should be shown in all high schools in U.S. and Canada! And your team should STILL be getting awards for this movie. (p.s.s. I'm coming over next week to see ALL the outtakes. haw) 😍 If ya'll haven't seen this yet...YOU NEED TO!

Walker of Blackfoot, Gary Duncan of the Quicksilver Messenger Service, Kathy Smith (do listen to her song 'Fly off with the Wind'), and Willy De Ville and many others -though maybe not all these talented folk always let their heritage be known to the world.

I've been playing Rock and Roll at you know, a pretty high level all my life with a lot of you know... SuperStars. Playing as a young man with Rod Stewart at "Madison Square Gardens" (didn't know there was more than one) Such humility, elegance and grace in a gum chewing shmuck
I do not deny the fact that Link Wray's guitar playing was extremely influential. But I can't see how his music was particularly "Indian". Even more was Robbie Robertson. His music was absolutely great. But again, I can't hear anything particularly "Indian" in his music. Does this documentary go into any explanation of aspects of rock music that came from Indian music? What's especially Indian in rock? The beat? The chord structure? The melodies or scales?
That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. So I suppose that when noted Chinese cellist Yo-Yo Ma plays a piece by Mozart, the fact that Yo-Yo Ma is Chinese means that the Mozart piece he plays becomes Chinese? I suppose that since American Country music artist Norah Jones is the daughter of Ravi Shankar, that means her country songs are really Indian?
Robbie Robertson made, at least, two albums that were heavily American Indian influenced. Used an American Indian band including vocals. These are amazing and very emotional records IMO. Check them out. You won't be sorry. Used a song from one in a presentation at Kent State U and got a standing ovation. One of my proudest moments.
THE US JUSTICE SYSTEM NEEDS TO PAY MORE ATTENTION TO DIFFERENT ETHNIC CULTURES THAT ENCOMPASSES RESTORATIVE JUSTICE TOO ALL PEOPLES ,RACES, AND SOCIAL CLASSES (ALL COLORS WILL BENEFIT WITH THE USA).
Argh. I know it's a commonly used misnomer to call indigenous people Indians, including by many themselves but damn, putting it in a movie title is downright screwy!?@ What about Indians from India? Any confusion there? Anywho. Looks like a rad movie and can't wait to see it at the AIFI/SF this year but had to point that out. Sigh....just wish that wasn't such a 'thing' is all. I also like how Steve Salas pointed out that the focus of the movie was a celebration. Simply putting the info out there is revolutionary without saying it's so.
