    That sure seems to be a very well engineered solution for folks that don’t have the storage space for a kayak. Or for those that don’t want to, or can’t load a kayak onto their vehicle! Very cleaver system this company has for securing the sections together and for the way the sections “nest” for transport and storage! I’m old enough to remember the Folboats and the Klepper kayaks that had a rubber or neoprene skin that fit snugly over a wood or aluminum frame. They were quite fiddly, and it was time consuming assembling them. This company has found a completely different solution for a traveling boat, and it seems to work very well! Thanks Cliff for an excellent revue!

    I have the Bluefin 14 and love it for kayaking in Michigan. I paddle with people who have 17' composite sea kayaks on the Great Lakes and have no problem keeping up with them. One thing that is rarely mentioned about the Pakayak is the storage capacity which is 221 liters. This is about the same as a NDK Romany Explorer expedition kayak.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад +2

      Thanks for watching and commenting Mark! If the original 14 had 221 liters, then the new 142 has even more space. Where did you find the liter
      information? I don’t see anything on their website about that….. Considering a large backpackers backpack only holds 70 liters, 221 is a bunch! Thanks
      for sharing!

      @Tentlifer good to know, thank you for sharing! Keep in mind also, there is a huge amount of storing space behind the seat back in the cockpit. Much more than in a traditional touring kayak. Good extra storage there as well.

    Cliff, I love your videos and reviews of this boat. I just found out about this kayak, I was looking at the Sea Eagle 393rl RazorLite Pro and pretty much sold on that because I need the portability and ease of storage of it but now, after seeing this, lol more choices! I will only be buying whatever I go with next season, just got a 2023 Sylvansport Go camper so there were a few extra expenses with that purchase so I will wait for the kayak, not to mention, whatever I go with, I have to get a second one for the wife. But this review was very helpful as always so again, keep the videos coming, it is appreciated!

      Thanks for watching and commenting Andrew! Those Sylvan Sports are very nice, congratulations!!! You can’t go wrong with the PaddleSki or the RazorLite.
      Both are my main go-to’s for paddling adventures. It just comes down to, do you want a more open, sit on top experience OR do you want a more traditional
      sit inside touring kayak experience? The Pakayak is a little bit faster to paddle, while the RazorLite is lighter to carry. Both set up in about the same time.
      I love them both and USE them both. I’ll put links to all my adventure videos below in both boats.

    It’s the best idea I’ve seen so far for a portable kayak. Your right about the cost savings aspect of owning one. The only downfall I see is the seat, it doesn’t look very comfortable. Thanks Cliff

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад +3

      Hi Terry, as always, thank you for watching, and commenting! With the seats simplicity, I thought that it might be pretty uncomfortable. I actually find that the seat is more comfortable than many other one piece kayaks that I paddle. I am definitely able to paddle an hour and a half without any uncomfortableness and I think that is pretty good! It is a good quality memory foam, and it really does give and form to your backside. Safe adventuring out there!

    I really like this kayak! I currently have a SE 393RL (you helped me seal the deal with all of your information). When I bought it, I was also towing a 37' 5th wheel and it was a pain to get my old kayak up on the roof of the truck (3/4 ton diesel 4x4). However, I had plenty of truck bed space around the 5th wheel hitch, so the SE made total sense. This pakayak would have been high on my list back then; that said...I sold the truck and 5th wheel and went back to tent camping with a Subaru Outback. There is NO room for the SE when the Outback is fully loaded. LOL. Especially when my 81 year old mom comes along. I have to lug a MUCH bigger tent and a larger air mattress for her. Now I'm back back to a hardshell, but I'd like a sit-in this time. Looking at the Delta 12.10 and the Eddyline (either Equinox or Sandpiper). The Equinox and this Pakayak have hit the sweet spot for the cockpit. Not so big that you couldn't reach a deck back, and not so small that the knees scrape, and my little kayaking buddy (a 15lb mutt) could still fit. Oh, and the 14ft length is the Mama Bear "just right" for me. Thanks, as always, for an informative review.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад +1

      Hi again!!! I definitely wouldn’t get rid of the SE 393RL - You’ll find uses for it on many adventures. I truly love and use the RazorLite a lot, I also use the
      Pakayak, it’s a great boat too! Biggest difference between the Equinox and the Pakayak, is the cockpit is even more roomy and easy to get into + the Pakayak
      breaks down to a 4’ high stack. This is MUCH easier to store when your adventure is over. I really had having to find space to store full sized, one piece rigid
      kayaks. I wish you the best in your search, let me know if you have any other questions. My contact info is at kayakcliff.com

    • @allonsy9808
      @allonsy9808 Год назад +1

      @@KayakCliff Yes! The storage factor is absolutely valid! Hauling and storage are quite the conundrum. LOL I have no room to haul the SE, and just barely room to store the rigid kayak. As always, I appreciate your input.

    I really like my pakayak. One issue I had though, that I haven’t seen any reviewer address, is the potential for a little bit of leaking at the stern end of the boat. If you put any pressure on the rear-most piece, mine has the smallest bit of flex in that joint that can allow a little water in the rear bulkhead area. I noticed this after launching from a ramp without realizing that the rear of the boat was still on the concrete, and I had some water in the rear compartment. This isn’t a deal breaker, since launching this way isn’t really correct in the first place, but it was something I noticed. I don’t think this would ever cause any issues for most people, but just something to be mindful of when launching this boat in less-than-ideal launching locations.

    • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад

      Hey 👋 Tom - Thank you so much for watching and commenting! The first time I used my Pakayak, I launched from one of those plastic kayak launch
      docks where you pull yourself along rollers as you descend into the water. I too had just a few drops of H2O in the bow and rear bulkheads. Not even
      enough to worry about. No other water came in during my 2 hour paddle. I have not used a roller style kayak launch sense and have had ZERO water in
      my bulkheads! I think it had something to do with the rollers flexing the splice locations ever so slightly, so as to let a drop of water in. Surprised me,
      because this boat is the stiffest plastic kayak I have ever paddled, and that is a good thing!

      Hi Jeff, Sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this! I tell you, my two most favorite go-to paddling boats are the RazorLite and the PaddleSki.
      If I’m in the mood for more of a sit on top, open kayaking experience - reach for the RazorLite. If I want more of a sit inside, classic touring kayak experience,
      I use the PaddleSki. The PaddleSki is a little faster due to it’s 24’’ width and I love the design! They are both awesome boats. If you want the classic
      sit inside / touring kayak experience in a boat that is actually stiffer than a traditional rotomolded one-piece touring kayak - get the Pakayak. You’ll really love it!

    Thanks for another great review Cliff! What are your thoughts on this boat as opposed to other portable kayak solutions, discounting price altogether? I have two older plastic sea kayaks that are great, but a pain to take on trips for all the reasons you mentioned. I want to paddle on up to Class 2 rivers and protected waterways (mostly day trips) and often have to drag my boat over shallow spots that I worry could tear up an inflatable. I am in a constant quandry as to what the best solution would be. Thank you for your help!

      Hi Gil - As long as they are inflatable, foldable, packable or stackable - that’s the boat(s) for me. I REALLY like the Pakayak and how it looks and functions
      just like a standard touring kayak. The Pakayak will definitely be one of my two go-to’s for the majority of my paddling. I would say the Pakayak is the fastest
      that I paddle, with the RazorLite coming in a VERY close second. I actually need to do a video comparing the two in terms of performance. Basically,
      if you are looking for more of a sit inside classic touring kayak experience, the Pakayak is it and it is a joy to paddle. If you want more of a open cockpit “sit-on-top” kayaking experience without sacrificing performance, the RazorLite is it,also a joy to paddle. I have had the RazorLite down several rivers where I was scraping the bottom with no visible wear and tear on the hull. Of course, the Pakayak will do extremely well in shallow rivers, you’ll just get that harmless “rash” on the bottom of your hull. I hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions! Nice review. I've been fascinated by this boat for a while. I was wondering, is there enough extra room inside the closed bag/stacked sections for a pfd, a primary and backup paddle (4 piece euro or 2 piece greenland), a bilge pump, skirt and maybe a small drybag with random small stuff (first aid kid, radio, sunscreen etc)? I'm curious if there's enough space to have not just the kayak, but everything needed to go kayaking within the one bag. That would be a big bonus to have the full setup in one bag, even if it's slightly heavier, than multiple bags.

    • @KayakCliff

      Hey 👋 , thank you for watching, and commenting! Honestly, they designed that stacking kayak package to be so efficient that there is not really any room to put anything. I think if you took a PFD and unzipped it and wrapped it around the kayak, you would be able to zip up the bag. I’m not sure how big the 4-piece paddle pieces are. Don’t think you could get it in there. Hope this helps! Safe adventuring out there.

    As I was watching your video, I received one of two packages from Pakayak at my door, then I went to FedEx to pick up the kayak. I brought it into my apartment and immediately assembled it and sat in it to check fit. I am 6' 3" and pushing 240. As you stated, cockpit is large enough to get in easily. I also found that with my footpegs fully extended, I had enough legroom to sit comfortably. now I have to get out and buy a paddle and PFD along with some other accessories. I did get the sprayskirt and hip and thigh pads sold by Pakayak. I am curious about the length of paddle that you use, I was thinking about a 230 for me. i appreciate your video with the unpacking and also packing and your views inside the bag were spot on to repack the kayak. Hi 👋 There! Sorry for the delay in getting back to you! My two favorite go-to’s for fast, high performing touring kayaks are the Pakayak and the RazorLite. I like them both because one is a open cockpit and sit on top style boat, while the other is sit inside. Both have their advantages for the type of
      adventure you want to go on. I really like how the Pakayak is a TRUE touring kayak, with the same look and feel as a one-piece sit inside touring
      kayak. Both the RazorLite and Pakayak are similar in speed, but I think the Pakayak will be slightly faster in a race. I actually plan on doing a speed
      comparison video between the two. I would say the RazorLite has a more stable feel, but that is only because it is 28’’ wide, while the pakayak is
      24’’ wide. For the width of boat that each one is, their respective stabilities are what they should be when compared to other similar boats. Both
      Primary and secondary stability are great in both boats.

    my biggest concern is that extra space behind the seat in the cockpit. IF you get rolled in rougher water then doing a buddy rescue where you hold the bow up in the air will leave a significantly larger volume of water in the cockpit than if that rear cockpit was right there behind you.
    i get h storage idea - but i store inside the bow and stern compartments - or a sealed day hatch. Having trained rescue techniques in rough water as part of instructor training - that larger volume behind the seat seems like a water trap for rescue settings.
    but that seems like my only real concern for this
    btw:
    you car gets 3-4 mpg worse with kayak on the roof??
    I have car that drops , with my two on the roof from 40 to 28. i used to scuba dive in the same car and even with 400lbs of teaching gear i got 38-40mpg...

      I think I have far less miles per gallon drop than you do, because of my big Ford F150 truck with a topper on the back. The size ratio of kayak to truck is less than kayak too small car. • @KayakCliff
      @KayakCliff  Год назад +1

      Hi 👋 Kathy - your comment is a common sentiment that I often hear. The Pakayak is a better looking kayak, perhaps, because it most resembles an actual touring kayak. If you are looking for a touring kayak - one that is fast, efficient paddling, and highly maneuverable - while still being easily, storable and transportable, the Pakayak is it! From the reviews that I have heard, the point 65 will not give you the same paddling experience as a real touring kayak or Pakayak.
      Being able to turn the 65 mercury into a tandem kayak is appealing, hence the enhanced stability.
      The 65 mercury looks like a well designed, quality boat, however, if you are looking for more of a touring kayak experience - I would go with a Pakayak.
      I have had several one piece hard shell touring kayaks prior to getting the Pakayak. I really do not see any sacrifice in the pakayak when compared to a real traditional hard shell one piece kayak.

      Hi there, Craig, thank you so much for watching and asking. The Pakayak tracks very nicely while paddling. It does do fairly well, edging for turning left and right. If you keep your body centered, it tracks fairly well after paddling with no strokes.
      All in all, I like the performance of this boat! Especially in the light of the fact that it is six pieces that go together to form one. It's an amazing feat of Engineering.
      I have paddled other kayaks, that when you stop paddling, the kayak automatically starts going left or right on its own as if it has its own mind. That is not the case with this boat. I'm not saying it won't drift a little, but it's not too bad at all.

Although, with some practice, I think class two might be achievable with plenty of experience. You will not have any problem at all, carrying this boat fully loaded with two people.
