This must have been a really hard video for you to make because of the tight space where you have to work. Thank you for posting it.

Those aren't auto slack adjusters. Those are old style slack adjusters. These you must adjust every month or when the brakes aren't stopping enough.
Auto slack adjusters are made differently and adjust when you come to a stop and put 30 pounds of pressure on the brake
Now some road rambos are already screaming you'll burn up your brakes putting so much pressure on them but if they would actually READ their owners manual or the manafactures manual on the auto adjusters they would learn that the most effecent way is when coming to a stop is let the truck stop as you usually do then release the brakes and roll a few inches then actually push the brakes hard so you put at least 30 pounds of air pressure on the system which activates the adjusting mechanism in the adjusters. Do this 3 or 4 times and you'll notice a big difference in the stopping power. And no you aren't burning up your brakes if you're not generating heat at speed! You're freaking stopped doing a needed adjustment.
OR do it at the end of the day when parking the truck. Do it the same way in reverse and forward.
NOW some auto adjusters will adjust while parked and the brakes are released. Just apply 30-60 pounds at least 10 times if you dont do this every day. And it's a good way to test your emergency brakes!
Note: they will NOT over adjust. So dont worry.
If I'm doing a lot of city driving I'll do an adjustment once or twice durring my deliveries to keep them in top stopping adjustment!
    AND a tip!
Get that red light to pull around back at the scales for that oh so fun DOT inspection? Do the above to make sure those brakes are in adjustment before he goes under the truck with his tape measure!
But do this on a daily and you're never going to get a write up OR be accused of out of adjustment brakes in case of an accident.
Try it today and be amazed! I find it funny that not a single big box company tell their new hires about this process as most if those class room instructors never had to even do a manual adjustment on either style of slack adjuster!
    Blue Sky's and Safe Journeys!
    Rollover!

My company has 10,000+ trailers. Every trailer I hook to is for the first and last time. I know a trailer needs adjustment when the brakes are fully applied and 4 loud "thunks" are heard. That's the ratchet mechanisms working. Once that's heard, I'll keep pumping at ~80+ psi until the thunking stops.

Look guys this are automatic slack adjusters. They have been mandatory since 94 for trucks and the year after for trailers. The anchor strap is on top.

Are these Gumite? Most buses at my job are Bendix, and they have the pull pawl that you have to release before taking them in. Also, I go a half a turn back when adjusting them. At least that’s how I was taught.

Just wondering the same thing. Saw these this morning, and so watched this video on them. Didn't see the pawl on mine. Have also heard both 1/4 and 1/2 turn. Have also heard a credit card should fit between shoe and drum.

I now work at the city, doing trash trucks. They don’t have a pull pawl. You just take a 9/16 socket (for most) and turn it in or out. I now do a 1/4 turn because that’s what they do here. Also studying for my ASE right now and it says the rule of thumb is tighten all the way down, 1/4 turn back. Never heard the credit card rule.

The only time you adjust auto slack adjusters is during installation and when testing. In between time you don't touch them. The rule of thumb is a 1/2 turn. Even if you turned it 1 turn the auto slack adjuster will correct it in 20 or so brake pedal pushes. Adjusting too little the adjuster can't correct and then you have brake shoe drag.

they usually do unless they havent been greased. make sure you have 100lbs of air. push your brake pedal to the floor and hold it there for 5 seconds. release. build air if you need to get back to 100 and repeat.
