EA hands down. I grew up on EA and it just had a fun factor that these new 2K games just don't have for me. Really hoping it is as good and polished as the trailers we have seen make it look. Once I found out EA was dropping a new game I didn't even bother picking up 2K23, just patiently waiting.
I've already got 2K so I may try the EA PGA on EA Play, but I'm solidly in the 2K camp - have been since the TGC days. Everything equal, the fact that 2K has the course creator and an endless supply of phenomenal (and some not as much!) courses is what does it for me.
Still my favorite golf title is Tiger Woods PGA tour 2005. The commentary, the in-flight spin control and most epic part which was when you nail the timing on a tee shot to have the slow-mo banger send you on your way. Ive bought plenty of golfing titles between then and now but I still keep going back to 2005.
Interesting. I do recall the early 2000's being some of the best. I hope this battle brings out the best in EA unlike their attempted return with NBA Live (Complete flop)
Golf is already difficult irl and I love it with a dash of hate😀, why try simulate that in a game? Im all for sim titles, Im an avid racer and enjoy trucking etc. but with golf, its like simulating a shark attack in your lounge.
Very well could be the case. I’m sure they will have their own flaws too but I wouldn’t be surprised if they knocked it out of the park. Back when Rory was made there was no competition so the product suffered. Knowing they are going directly against their biggest competitor in 2k and their former signature athlete in tiger they know there is a steep hill to climb. With that being said I’m willing to bet they have dedicated the resources to make sure it’s off high quality. 🤞
30fps, no weather, hot shots golf animations, power boost/spin arcade controls. You know those will be turned on online. Idk just yet. The lack of gameplay shown right now is kind of concerning to me considering the game releases in a 3 weeks. Courses look good and player swings look good. Minus the chipping and clunky bunker animations. I grew up playing tw games and loved them. Was even ranked inside the global top 100 in tw12. I play 2k currently a lot and enjoy. But im ready for a change and something new. But it is EA, and i dont trust them hence why i did not preorder. Fingers crossed the gameplay is better than Rory but it looks very similar
The ball physics , despite the marketing , looks as arcadey as previous renditions of EA golf games ; the only area they appear to have an advantage is with the players ; they look outstanding.
Really looking forward to EA's entry. I have played 2K's effort a lot, but I'm really looking forward to playing in more realistic scenery. I agree with you Kilbride, I'm praying that the microtransactions are cosmetic only.
Yes. Im competely okay with cosmetic based microtransactions like Fortnite for example. In todays day in age a developer would be financially irresponsible to not have microtransactions however once they are required for gameplay improvements or courses it loses my attention immediately. Release a special edition Tony Finau apparel package for purchase to make your character look cosmetically different by all means.
I already have 2k23, will probably be getting EA PGA. 2k23 had a lot of mixed reviews but it's incredibly enjoyable in my opinion. The difficulty online is very high, which may drive lesser skilled players away. It probably isnt much fun slamming a drive into the water, taking a drop then going bunker to bunker to score a solid +5 on a single hole.
i picked up 2K game 2 weeks ago. I'm playing on PC and do not have a controller so I have attempting to play with mouse and keyboard. Its very challenging to control the shots even with a ruler taped to my desk to keep the mouse straight. My question is about the character. I cannot find a way to change my Golfer Name and I also find it annoying to be unable to Quit a game with a WD. Any suggestions? I am looking forward to the EA game too and might purchase that one if it plays better.
MY Player -> Golfer -> Info to change your character's name. As far as the WD i think if you quit tourney and advance there is no way to prevent it. You should be able to leave the tourney and return later without problem though. EA is trending to have a nice career with all the majors involved. Lets hope it lives to the hype.
I've been looking forward to EA coming back to the golfing sector. The 2K games always felt like they were missing that spark that EA brought to their golf games
I picked up 2k during a big sale they had a few weeks ago . I’m presently surprised with it . I LOVED the tiger woods games and I think golf is the perfect sport to do a bi annual release . I think EA will have the better game but I think/hope they will continue to push each other . 2k really needs to step up on the career mode as well as the gear and apparel . There are like 6 shirts to chose from (but maybe that cause I’m just at the start ? )
Cross play is make or break for me but right now my biggest concern is mechanics / physics. Does swinging, the way the ball reacts with real worl physics seem as real in 2k versus the most recent from EA? Just wondering your take?
@@Kilbride10 Thanks for the reply. Yeah. Mechanics wise I worry about glassy seeming surfaces and the like but TBH I think I'm gonna go with 2K. I will be a little miffed if EA goes fully cross play. I'm an adult that could afford both but the principle of 2 full golf games where only one would get used, frustrates my OCD, sense of money wastage Lol. Thanks for coming back to me. Gained a sub Lol :)
I have to say EA has been a major let down. Glitches, crashing, not giving rewards on completion, EA server connection issues… and the game is just missing something, it’s a mess of stuff that is disorganized and knowing what to do is difficult. The online play is garbage, you basically just play on your own.
Interested in hearing your thoughts now that we've all played both. Here's my take: The weird golfer models and faces, the truly awful cameras, the unbalanced game play, and the overall playing-in-mud chunkiness of EA's game sure makes me appreciate the silky-smooth, finished feel of 2K23. EA's game though wins in the season mode, challenge mode, and overall presentation department, and 2K/HB really needs to step up their game in that regard. Cheers.
I think it all circles back to how having both in the market will only push the other game to be more innovative. I’m really happy with EA but as you mentioned it certainly has it faults and 2k really nails the feeling of the golf swing. I couldn’t be happier to see both pushing each other forward. Will likely elaborate more on the podcast and hopeful to have some more RUclips posts in near future to dive in depth.
@@Kilbride10 Thanks for the reply. I'm a PC gamer and I sincerely appreciate the fact we now have two games to choose from, it's been years! The thing is I go back to the sim days of Links and Microsoft Golf. I play 2K23 with all the aiming and targeting assists off. I even reset my clubs to normal swing before setting up my next shot, so as to nullify the auto-caddie feature. And I can do all that in 2K23. But in EA's game, there's no way to shut any of that off. There is so much hand-holding, it feels like a target practice game with the auto-distance club selection, and the targeting arrows and landing spots showing me where my shot will end up. Also -- and this is really important to me because I don't have internet all the time -- EA's game will not start up AT ALL without an internet connection. At least I can play 2K23 in offline mode without a connection, but not so with EA PGA Tour. Cheers and happy golfing.
@@boysilver2556 online requirements seem to becoming more and more common with newer games. It’s very unfortunate for those without connection or unstable connections. Hate to hear about the limitations unfortunately I doubt it will ever revert to not being a requirement
I just hope EA's simulation difficulty is as punishing as 2K's. I think the set dressing will be much better, and if they can just match that gameplay then they'll get the hardcore players on-side too. It's genuinely so satisfying to go under par on the full sim level in 2K. I feel an actual sense of accomplishment for say, getting top 10s in events. My proudest steam achievement, and the one I worked hardest for, is genuinely the 'shoot level par or better on Legend difficulty' from 2k21. That level of difficulty creates so so much replay value.
Ea will allow the player to customise the experience ,you can set the difficult and the swing difficulty and that is the draw for me when it comes to EA golf games they know what they are doing as they have been making golf games for decades . 2k PGA games have a very frustrating swing system and i will not use the button click system because golf games should be played with the stick controls.
@@A.D.D.O.C.D.T Holy shit you did not play 14's Simulation mode if you think simulation mode is easy AT ALL unless you were referring to the game we do not mention. 14's simulation mode is a nightmare to play.
When you say full sim, do you play with all the aiming and targeting cheats off? All the wind speed and elevation indicators off? Auto-caddy off? (Have to jerry-rig that in 2K21 because they removed the option, damn them.) I'm a sim fanatic. The only cheats/indicators I use are the yardage book distances and green grid. And I even tried the game shutting all that off but it was just too nuts even for me.
Best and worst of each: 2k: Best = More realistic gameplay, Custom courses, Worst=commentary and extremely complex and convoluted upgrade/fittings system. EA: Best = Graphics, physics, good variety of courses. Worst=Player progression, "Pro Pass" (which let's face it it's a Pay-To-Win system that allows you to buy your way to a better character. Head to head competition among developers. Responsive development teams. 2 year development cycles. Imagine if they did this with football? Madden might be slightly playable. I have no problem with the 2k career mode. The problem is that the system of skill points, fittings, fit fees is so complex and convoluted that it's hard to level up your player. Plus 2k is extremely stingy with currency. Truth is I go back and forth between the two. I use EA when I want the career mode, but for casual golf I still give 2k the slight edge because of custom courses.
@@ゆみす魔王 his home is in florida actually ;} on a side note EA used to employ hb studios to make those tiger woods games and hb studios are the ones who now make 2k's golf game so there's that
I have PGA 2K23 now and I have pre-ordered EA PGA Tour also. I have been a fan of TGC from the first release and enjoy the game, but happy to see EA back in the fold, as I was a big fan of the Tiger games back in the day. I am very much a solo career mode type player, so 2K can get stale quickly, so looking forward to EA and the different challenges and all those nice courses and better next gen graphics. I used to enjoy yhr old tiger game where you could do different challenges to improve your golfer, not just play the career mode.
Love to hear it. I also loved all the different game modes and challenges the old games included. I'm hopeful that EA will launch with a bunch of cool features and if not then at very least the competition will spark that needed innovation to keep the gamers coming back for more. Licensing things can certainly be tricky so courses and player likeness etc. of course will be a large obstacle however there is plenty of room for improvement on different game modes on and offline.
I play solo career too, and that’s where I think 2k really dropped the ball. The player/clothes customization was such a swing and miss this year. I still doubt EA golf will have better gameplay than 2k though.
Without EA attempting to come in the market I wonder how slow 2k would have been to develop ranked and cross play. Its surprising how absent golf has been from quality gaming in recent years though as a whole.
I feel bad for 2K in a way as they have built on the original Golf Club games and made a really good simulation - I only have 2K21 but great to have a very enjoyable golf game when EA were nowhere to be seen. I’ve held off getting 2K23 as wanted to see what EA had to offer, and it looks very good. The inclusion of the Majors, a ton of premier official courses, a better career mode and the truly current gen visuals swing it (pun intended!) for me. Competition is good though and I feel like both games serve something for everyone - if you’re into online play and creating courses then 2K, whereas EA for career mode and visuals.
I think I’m waiting for EA. My takeaway from this video is if you want to design courses and play against your buddies get 2K, if you want realism and better graphics go EA.
I’m wondering about how in-game currency is awarded. There’s PGA points, the green points I think you have you buy with real cash(can you win this too from any game modes?).
Okay so I'm playing the 3 day 2k trial here with my Son over the Easter holidays. The game is only 26 euros to buy ATM too. Absolute Bargain. I've downloaded Ea Pga Tour 10 hour Trial. Gonna play a few games vs my son with this too and let him pick which to buy. Both of us get the game when one of us buys it (Dad will buy obviously) 🤣 That's what I love about Xbox. Anyway I'm getting off track. We've been having a ball lately playing a game I didn't think he'd have the least bit of interest in but it's also renewing my love for the Tiger woods series. I'll let you know which one he picks ☺️
I like them both, but if I had to choose one over the other, EA gets the win. More realistic graphics, and it has the Masters and US Open. Plus, it had Pebble Beach at launch, where 2K had to add it through an update. Now that both have Pinehurst, I pick up 2K once in a while, but my vote still goes to EA.
I was a huge Tiger Woods PGA Tour games guy, until Tiger got dumped by EA. But if I had to make a choice, I like EA even though 2K’s create a course is phenomenal! But because 2K is crossplay and not as smooth looking, I’m going with EA PGA Tour. Now if 2K next year gets the LIV Tour, and is Next Gen Console only, then count me in on that. But with all that EA has to offer in courses and ball physics, as well as weather dynamics, and Augusta National… yeah, I have to go with EA this year.
I also forgot to add: Compare how 2k does Tiger's model and animations to even the PS1 era Tiger woods or 2005's model and see the difference. Hell 2k didn't even give Tiger his own animations.
For sure the player likeness and playing with personalities in 2k is very poor. They have a solid lineup of people but the unique traits and extreme lack of customization on your own character was for sure a big miss on this aspect of the game. I wonder how in depth EA will go with this as they typically dive much deeper.
I just pre-ordered EA PGA TOUR for Xbox Series X/S and I'm excited to be able to make a run at the Masters and compete for that green jacket plus it's a true next gen only game instead of a ported previous gen version!
2k23 kicks me out of my career so often that I quit playing. Reinstalled the game and same thing happened. So excited for EA PGA. Also MLB comes out same week so I'm stoked.
It’s going to be a great week for sports gaming and sports in general. Right before the masters and mlb seasons too! Which console you have the current game on? I personally haven’t had any issues with career on PS and PC. I wonder if others have experienced similar.
I've never truly enjoyed the 2k series as they didn't have the licensing. I'm looking forward to playing a real tour experience with real Tournaments and courses.
Very common issue with the 2k games. Augusta and the majors alone are such a massive draw for most that without them in game there is no point to purchase.
I have 2k21 and man I was disappointed mainly player models. even tho the course looks great. I have pga tour pre ordered and man I’m excited for it !!
Dude I’d riding ea from somebody planning on getting them both (already have 2k) The 2k community can make all the courses & ea will probably charge $5-10 per course. Ea pga is 30 fps so even if current gen, it’s not too relative in the debate. My last comment in regards to the “ground being different per course” is simply a sales pitch..they been doing this in madden w/locomotion, spotlight passing etc But we all know it’s just empty words when we get the game Like I said, getting them both but 2k seems to have a massive long term advantage
for EA: these are the confirmed names so far. Scottie Scheffler Cameron Champ Xander Schauffele Im Sung-jae Nelly Korda Lexi Thompson Jordan Spieth Tony Finau Hideki Matsuyama For 2k: Tiger Woods Collin Morikawa Xander Schauffele Rickie Fowler Justin Rose Lexi Thompson Tony Finau Jon Rahm Brooke Henderson Will Zalatoris Lydia Ko Harold Varner III Bubba Watson Justin Thomas Micheal Jordan (Through pre-order bonus or special edition purchases) Stephen Curry Matt Fitzpatrick
Augusta is IN 2K23 people forget that. There are some awesomely designed versions of it that play almost identical to how it was in old EA games. 2K has infinitely more to offer and plays closer to real golf imo.
Have you played Augusta on Tiger Woods 2008 on PC? I'm currently playing a custom 2022-2023 PGA season with the current roster and courses. It's allot better than 2k21/2k23. It's old, but very good.
This is true however its very well protected and 2k is unable to market it and add to the calendar in career mode. While I personally do play it in 23 having the official license is “major” (terrible joke). That being said the 2k course selection can not be matched, I wonder if the recent ranked and cross play will continue to draw traffic to their title.
Have both games, Despite mixed review on EA PGA Tour, but I still prefer the EA PGA Tour. I don't know how my laptop performance and fps is stable playing EA PGA Tour rather than 2K23 with same setting (High), which with that setting the graphic still better on EA PGA Tour. And the control are much easy on EA PGA Tour (3 click and Analog Swing in EA PGA Tour feels more forgiving). Also using bluetooth controller weirdly I feel more delays on 2K23. The plus side from 2K23 is Course designer and can get course from community, and it seems many mode you can play and it's cheaper (with discount it's almost half the price of EA PGA Tour).
EA is actually producing a quality game for once. I guess 2k thought they could get away with trash bc of no competition but after the career mode trailer it looks so good for ea
only way they could pull off ultimate team is if they added all of korn ferry, pga & european and to fill the hole of quantity, add variants by month and per like major also add clubs balls etc
Yeah im not sure how it would be implemented however I am sure it is definitely a talking point considering how much money sports games pull in from virtual pack sales.
If they had it for PS4 I could try it. But as it is currently that is not possible. But I’m really enjoying 2k23 honestly. 2k23 deserves the rights to the actual courses same as EA.
I do agree having more of a purpose for the personalities that are in the game would be nice outside of just a simple local match. Perhaps EA will find a better way to integrate them into their game as 2k they seem pretty inconsequential.
EA PFA Tour actually looks next gen, that's massive for a golf game. 2k looks like it was made for the last gen. Also the depth of the career is handedly with EA and that's maybe the most important aspect for me.
Ea definitely wins on graphics. Both have subpar career modes. I personally prefer 2k due to the online competition and the quantity of courses makes for much better replay ability
Ok help me out here. So unlike PGA 2k23 where you have to play online even in career mode, on the EA game, you don’t have to be online to play career mode, correct? The reason I ask is because where I live, we have no internet service.
No doubt EA will dominate at the outset, but if they lag too long in bringing in additional courses, I think it may grow somewhat stale. They could absolutely CRUSH 2K if they brought in a course design feature, but this seems incredibly unlikely. I've played 2K in it's various forms for about 3 years & thoroughly enjoy it, especially the course design ability & the society play feature (which is riddled with bugs), but I will definitely give EA a try. Looking forward to making my own comaparisons/contrasts!
Yes, EA will crush opening sales but heading into the fall this year will people still be interested is a great question. Curious how many game modes they will offer and how quickly they will expand.
@@brianchiaro1191 If youre a degenerate gamer you would be surprised at how quickly things can get. That being said if they knock these 30 courses out of the pack i tend to agree it is quite a lot to cycle through.
@@Kilbride10 true but just like anything though. Was just calling out where I felt it needed. 2K had 20 courses at launch. EA has 30. Not trying to be biased since I have 2K already but it’s lame compared to old Tiger
For me, how I see it. If I want to play on Custom courses or play online with my friends through Cross Play, I'll play 2K23. If I want to play Career Mode and also play the Majors and other courses, I'll play EA PGA Tour. It will be interesting to see what EA does with Online, I wonder if it is possible to join an Online Club, like 2K's Societies where you all play on a course, in an event, or could it be like Fifa's Pro Clubs where all of you who are active in a lobby, play one match together.
I own 2k's game and love it. Will buy EA's game as well. I am concerned about the goofy ball physics in the EA trailers....looks to me like the ball is rolling through the rough like a Que ball on a pool table which is really concerning....don't like the goofy mid flight spin control EA's seems to like putting in their game but whatever. Both companies need badly to implement competitive online tournaments/rounds with the option of scoring based on handicap (or net scoring). One of the biggest turn offs to playing in anything online (golf related) is seeing a leaderboard with some dude leading with a -24 score after 18 holes. It makes those modes unplayable.
Yes i agree, I much prefer the more realistic golf scores and a simulation feel. Im hoping EA's can replicate that feeling on their Simulation setting. (Some of the bounces do seem weird)
I currently have PGA 2K23 which I enjoy playing very much. That said, I'm planning on buying EA Sports PGA Tour when it comes out since I want to be able to play Augusta among other courses. Thanks for a good comparison of the two games!
@@namename5917 Go to search for courses, course name is agbeta2022. There was another one called A Tradition Like No Other but was removed it seems. I haven't played ATLNO since around 4 months ago but agbeta2022 is still there, just finished a round on it.
@@PhillyBatts Thx, just started playing and love the game and discovered create-a-course; anxious to download courses. Almost have to try the EA game too to play Augusta.
I'm currently playing 2k23 on Xbox Series X, but I have pre-ordered EA PGA TOUR. When I get EA I'm probably going to exclusively play that mostly because I'm a crazed Masters fan. 2K is a great game as well but the only drawback from me loving it, is it seems like I piles on the bad holes and you can't seem to rite the ship it keeps compounding the bad holes with more bad holes
That’s a very common criticism that I have heard with 2k thus far. That being said I know they are taking strides in their updates and patches (to ease play, I’m not really sure but at least for more features and tweaks). All that being said. Unless EA is a complete flop it will hard for me to not be glued to EA’s product as I too am an avid Masters addict. 🤞both games put their best foot forward!
For real. 2k need to adjust their Lidar maps around the greens. Most of the greens in 2k are on a plateau and ball rolls right off the edge too much. They're not like that in real life lol
The bar is set so low with the 2k series that I think EA will easily take the crown. The gameplay on 2k is wonky and doesn't seem to have real golf physics. The putting and chipping just doesn't seem right. I have zero desire to play any courses made in the course designer. Only the top few are actually good. 2k is a $40 game pretending to be a full release.
@@Kilbride10 Before that reality check totally destroys my wishful thinking and I pretend you answered yes. Can they please add a setting that makes my golf look much better than it really is?
Users on 2k have already created accurate versions of most of the popular courses including Augusta. So i don't feel like that is a big reason to choose EA over 2k. IMO.
similar to Brady's comment I think the lack of ability from 2k to market the premiere courses and add them to a career mode is a miss for a lot of people. Most people that own 2k don't know Augusta has been recreated multiple times in it.
EA's career mode looks leaps and bounds more intriguing than 2k's. i didnt bother upgrading from 2k21 to 2k23, but this EA game looks like a great pickup
2k has very limited game modes. They did just add ranked online play (which should have been in game at launch). Im curious how many modes EA will have
@@robertcerda92 2k is very limited on player customization... I would guess EA will be better but I have no knowledge of what they plan on offfering. I base that soley on the fact that 2k has extreme limitations.
More people watched this video than any LIV tournament to date...LOL. Great Video Kilbride!! cant wait to see your review of EA before purchasing for myself.
i have 2k's golf game since it was released and it looks like it will be the only one I will have unless EA gets smart and stops just being a next-gen they would make even more money that way.
They will not be releasing in prior gen. They made the decision to go with the new graphics system which is next gen only. So unfortunately it will remain tied to next gen
for sure. With 2k they have thouasands of courses thanks to the course designer mode. I like the feel of the swing better as well, hence my preference.@@thefella131
Seem to be fairly cut and dry now that we have all the details. Gameplay and mechanics and graphics will go to ea, 2k win's on variety also due to the fact it has a course editor the societal aspect (online) for 2k i would assume would be much stronger as well as the fact they also added crossplay. Last to add to that list although its probably a little gimmicky it does feed back into the societal online aspect and that would be Top Golf. Presentation and sound im sure will go to ea for the biggest reason owning the course licensing to the majors, course presentation will have that tv broadcast aspect to it being able to have all that on screen branding and what not. The biggest weakness i see for ea is pretty clear, no course designer i think really hurts the game's longevity. Won't deny coming out of the gate with 30 courses and a few more a long the way is strong (this will be an even bigger blow if they charge for those courses outside launch again considering the competition). For 2k it would be the game engine, unity has got to go, unreal or something else please. Now the game doesn't look horrid by any means however put it up side ea pga tour and to me it looks like we have a current gen and last gen game graphically. I held off on 2k will get ea pga tour even though that blow to the gut hurts with no course designer. I will be really curious in the future if 2k uses a better engine and if ea were to well not be ea and give us a course designer that would be spicy.
Great recap. Yeah 2k's next step is for sure a bump up on engine and graphics which is a large deterrent for the consumer. Additionally the course licensing is something they will always battle with even if there are "secret Augusta" versions thanks to their designer mode.
@@Kilbride10 Yeah deeper pockets will always prevail with licensing. For me though honestly i would forgo any contract of licensing and the pageantry it provides onscreen and it's presentation. As long as the course its modeled accurately and knowing through a course creator the possibilities would be endless to a degree, give me the ladder rather then the former. Course creation with good course makers in the community for me will always trump any type of extra shine licensing can give through presentation. All depends what the end user values more, obviously you can see the side that i lean toward.
@@thedutchrutter16 I defintley agree on that standpoint. The licensing will still be tricky as if completely foregone then the courses like Augusta do threaten legal action... so its a tough balance. Course designer keeps my enjoyment going week in and week out and it has from TGC 19 through now with 2k.
I waited until I could buy 2K23 at a reasonable cost and think it’s very good. I wanted it for the course designer so I doubt very much that I’ll buy EA’s offering.
I started with 2k23 and enjoy the game but it’s very buggy and crashes a lot. I have preordered the deluxe edition of the Ea game, hopefully it’s less buggy and doesn’t crash. Hopefully one day they let us play career matches with friends online.
@@Kilbride10 I don’t see how it would be that hard honestly, if we can do private matches at any course why wouldn’t it be the same thing except gives us credit towards our career. And it would be cool if it shows my friends progress in the career so we could keep track of how each other is doing.
Also maybe it’s just me, but the swing timing in 2k23 seems random sometimes and very difficult for me. I play on the pro settings since that’s all you get for the ranked games, but even after swing calibration it’s either a perfect swing or it’s 50yards to the left or the right. I go down to pro am settings and I’m shooting -20 each game. It just doesn’t seem very fluid with the transition of difficulty, maybe I just suck.
Everyone loves 2k lol…I love ea golf for easier reasons graphics are usually better you actually have to develop your swing cause it’s full motion ea is a harder Game then 2k so people love 2k lol
Yes with a well developed online ranked system or competiion modes... things like TGC will not be needed. That being said I am a big proponent of everything TGC Tours puts together and love everything they bring to the table. The games will both suffer if that is the only way competition is conducted.
Yes that is one this I did leave out and quite disappointing from the EA perspective and a bit mind blowing for a next gen exclusive to release at 30 fps. EA developers seemed pretty receptive of the harsh criticism when that news was released so perhaps that will be expedited in their timeline to have upgraded.
@@Kilbride10 aren’t other EA games like NHL and FIFA 60 fps games? I suppose the environments in those games tend to all be very similar and can be streamlined to boost performance Hopefully they figure that one out
@@justinmorris9519 Yes exactly, and on top of that they are releasing only on next gen and on advanced frostbite engine... odd to say the least that they are using 30 fps. Hopefully its not as negatively impactful as it potentially sounds.
Very excited about EA being back in the game. I always played the Tiger Woods games in the early 00s, and was really disappointed when I got 2K23, it just felt really sterile.
I think you will enjoy EA. There is a lot of content and variety of game modes and difficulty levels on top of a large boost in graphics and presentation over 2k23
Did someone forget about NBA 2K & EA's NBA Live competing against each other for 20 years from 1999-2019? Graphically, EA will win hands down. Hopefully the simulation settings will remove some of the "cheese" that turned me off with Tiger Woods games (spin control, etc). The course designer is definitely a perk for 2K, and it wouldn't be surprising if EA tried to implement it later after exhausting their stable of DLC course offerings. Obviously not releasing a course editor is intentional to protect sales of their DLC courses, but there is a finite amount of courses to offer (tournament schedules, etc).
Yes 2k won by a large margin in the basketball gaming for sure. I hope both continue to innovate and try to stay in the market for a few years. One will likely drop after the other pulls away… will be interesting to see what happens and if we are fortunate enough to have a few release from both devs
It’s important to have competition between the two developers. Both need to stick around to push each other to develop better games. If you don’t think so look at what Madden has become because of the lack of competition. NFL 2K was an outstanding game until EA got the exclusive simulation rights from the NFL. Remember how bad EA was at making basketball that they had to stop because NBA 2K was so good? Competition is good
@@ゆみす魔王 EA made good golf games but I think they would have been even better if they had competition. Competition forces improvement in every walk of life from the companies competing with each other with a certain product to athletes competing with each other in practice for a certain position. Competition IS NECESSARY or you eventually become stale and don’t improve. Madden was good for years without any real competition and then got the exclusive sim NFL license and then the lack of competition shows every year. The game is AWFUL. I use to buy the game every year but now I don’t even remember the last time I bought it because it’s that bad.
If you want an arcade game go for EA if you want a challenge with something that is closer to the physics of golf in real life go for 2K. As a scratch golfer and someone who played the game at a higher level I find 2K a much better version with an overall better golfing experience
I am a MyPlayer exclusive sports gamer, but EA has been nothing but a let down year after year in FIFA and Madden, as they just never ever make improvements or add things players want. Their physics engine and graphics are just hype EA uses to hide all the flaws.
Exactly! Madden and NHL have been stagnent for years due to lack of competition. Having their major competitor in the market at the same time will surely push both to their limits.
EA wins. Community wanted better graphics. Ideally UE. 2K23 served up the same "bleh" with Tiger Woods. Havent liked EA golf much since MS Arnie and Links ( yeh I'm that old), but going to give it a go.
I used to play tw online Alot!! Back in 09-14 did u use to play back then in looking for the older gen off player back then to help me deside which is best
I have a feeling they will. A couple of the biggest names right now (Rory and Hovland) are not associated with either game at the moment. I wonder if it could be rhem
Personally I’m all about the immersion, and even without all the famous courses on EA, I can’t get over how bad the graphics are on 2k 23, it honestly looks like a game from 2018.
What game are you purchasing and why?
EA hands down. I grew up on EA and it just had a fun factor that these new 2K games just don't have for me. Really hoping it is as good and polished as the trailers we have seen make it look. Once I found out EA was dropping a new game I didn't even bother picking up 2K23, just patiently waiting.
EA. Definitely miss the majors
@@remmy100 I miss them too!
@@ICoKraI Many people share the same stance. Lets hope EA can bring their swag back from the early TW days.
05 is the goat
Interesting. I do recall the early 2000's being some of the best. I hope this battle brings out the best in EA unlike their attempted return with NBA Live (Complete flop)
Wasn't it 2004?
I thought it was 2004 that was the magic year, from what I remember. It was one of those two absolutely epic, fun asf game.
@@WildfireX Yeah 04-05 time was great and 14 was one of my favorites too.
Golf is already difficult irl and I love it with a dash of hate😀, why try simulate that in a game? Im all for sim titles, Im an avid racer and enjoy trucking etc. but with golf, its like simulating a shark attack in your lounge.
without having played EA yet, I would double down on EA for the win based on what we've seen and predicted gameplay.
Ea uses the whole swing path of your joystick 2k does not
@@fuckyoutube8639 That's just not true - It's the exact opposite. Change the settings.
Pretty silly considering you havnt played it yet
The ball physics , despite the marketing , looks as arcadey as previous renditions of EA golf games ; the only area they appear to have an advantage is with the players ; they look outstanding.
I do agree some of the animations look a bit odd to say the least from the trailer. For example short game shots just look awkward.
@@Kilbride10 I think it will be aimed at casual players who love an arcade game. Simulation fans will stick to 2ks
@@dontbewoke That was my initial thought as well. Im curious how their simulation setting will play.
2k is far from a sim and I just plat’d that game.
They both look like a video game of golf ⛳️
You can judge ball physics from a trailer without ever having played the game???
That's super impressive, bud. Are you psychic???
Really looking forward to EA's entry. I have played 2K's effort a lot, but I'm really looking forward to playing in more realistic scenery. I agree with you Kilbride, I'm praying that the microtransactions are cosmetic only.
Yes. Im competely okay with cosmetic based microtransactions like Fortnite for example. In todays day in age a developer would be financially irresponsible to not have microtransactions however once they are required for gameplay improvements or courses it loses my attention immediately. Release a special edition Tony Finau apparel package for purchase to make your character look cosmetically different by all means.
Great video. EA will edge it for me due to the in depth career mode and customisation. I will still play PGA Tour 2k23. The competition is healthy
My instincts make me lean the same way but also will for sure be playing both unless EA is a complete flop.
Fine line to walk between realism and video game enjoyment. I will be in the same boat
i picked up 2K game 2 weeks ago.
From the videos I’ve seen can’t say I’m a fan of the backswing. Disappointed with the lack of UK courses as well.
I assume this is on the EA side of the fence? If so, yes the UK courses do seem limited, perhaps many more post launch but nothing confirmed
I've been looking forward to EA coming back to the golfing sector.
The 2K games always felt like they were missing that spark that EA brought to their golf games
A sentiment felt by quite a few. Let’s hope EA comes back strong
I almost bought 2k today since it’s on sale but road to the Masters is a week away so I’m holding off and picking it up instead
There are like 6 shirts to chose from (but maybe that cause I’m just at the start ? )
Love to hear. Yes 2k is significantly slacking in the apparel and career areas. Hope that can change.
Cross play is make or break for me but right now my biggest concern is mechanics / physics. Does swinging, the way the ball reacts with real worl physics seem as real in 2k versus the most recent from EA? Just wondering your take?
@@TheAlbinoRat 2k feels really well done as far as calculations and realism. I would highly recommend 2k if you are looking for a challenge
@@TheAlbinoRat absolutely! I think in the long run we will benefit from a great golf game. I hope they keep pushing each other. 🤞 appreciate the sub!
I have to say EA has been a major let down. Glitches, crashing, not giving rewards on completion, EA server connection issues… and the game is just missing something, it’s a mess of stuff that is disorganized and knowing what to do is difficult. The online play is garbage, you basically just play on your own.
Agreed, I am holding out hope for significant improvements via updates.
I will absolutely be buying the EA game, because I am still chasing that Tiger Woods 2004-5 high.
Minus having tiger woods himself I am willing to bet they do a much better job with this version of the game knowing they have direct competition. 🤞
The simulation style is my preference as well and 2k really does an awesome job at that. Arcade only will definitely hurt EA if thats the case
It’s literally flicking the stick back and forth in a straight line.
Not the epitome of skill.
Best and worst of each:
2k: Best = More realistic gameplay, Custom courses, Worst=commentary and extremely complex and convoluted upgrade/fittings system.
Thank you. That's swayed it to 2k for me for now 👍
Imagine being able to play Augusta with those next gen graphics, all those great swing mechanics and not being able to choose Tiger.
Yeah it is certainly going to be bizarre with no Tiger at Augusta.
Sucks I know without tiger. EA is his home who are the only company who will do his likeness justice and have first priority unlike 2k.

Absolutely nuts that there are two AAA golf games to play in 2023.
Without EA attempting to come in the market I wonder how slow 2k would have been to develop ranked and cross play. Its surprising how absent golf has been from quality gaming in recent years though as a whole.
Is it even AAA if it's locked at 30FPS?
@@AEH2102 AAA is generally the resources that went into making the game, not what the frame rate is.
@James Earl I get that, but it also implies a certain standard, which 30 FPS doesn't meet.
Very well said. Only about a month until we find out for sure.,
I think I’m waiting for EA. My takeaway from this video is if you want to design courses and play against your buddies get 2K, if you want realism and better graphics go EA.
In a small nutshell yes. A lot tbd for EA still but all trending in the right direction
I’m wondering about how in-game currency is awarded. There’s PGA points, the green points I think you have you buy with real cash(can you win this too from any game modes?).
Great question. Still learning myself. Will maybe create a video on it, if not will for sure be discussing during live streams
LOL Did NOT see the LIV blast coming.
Had too many people ask me about LIV previously to not make a subtle mention. 😂
Love to hear it! Keep us posted. Someone new to the game i am guessing the graphics and casual feel of EA might get the win. But interested to hear.
I agree. I wish they'd mash the two games together haha
But with all that EA has to offer in courses and ball physics, as well as weather dynamics, and Augusta National… yeah, I have to go with EA this year.
what about Oak Hill? That better be added I would hope
Yes they will have all the majors so for sure will be there. If not at release before the pga championship
One thing none of these reviews mention is this: Can I play with my buddy in a career mode vs ai players in a year by year career?
I also forgot to add: Compare how 2k does Tiger's model and animations to even the PS1 era Tiger woods or 2005's model and see the difference. Hell 2k didn't even give Tiger his own animations.
For sure the player likeness and playing with personalities in 2k is very poor. They have a solid lineup of people but the unique traits and extreme lack of customization on your own character was for sure a big miss on this aspect of the game. I wonder how in depth EA will go with this as they typically dive much deeper.
good job, keep going!

Very common issue with the 2k games. Augusta and the majors alone are such a massive draw for most that without them in game there is no point to purchase.
I have 2k21 and man I was disappointed mainly player models. even tho the course looks great. I have pga tour pre ordered and man I’m excited for it !!
I dont think you will be dissapointed with the courses that EA is delivering thats for sure. Graphics look awesome from that point of view.
Dude I’d riding ea from somebody planning on getting them both (already have 2k)
The 2k community can make all the courses & ea will probably charge $5-10 per course. Ea pga is 30 fps so even if current gen, it’s not too relative in the debate. My last comment in regards to the “ground being different per course” is simply a sales pitch..they been doing this in madden w/locomotion, spotlight passing etc
But we all know it’s just empty words when we get the game

Nobody cares about player created courses that will get nuked by 2k once they are found out
Have you played Augusta on Tiger Woods 2008 on PC?

Trailers can be deceiving. I’m cautiously optimistic and really hoping ea delivers great gameplay
only way they could pull off ultimate team is if they added all of korn ferry, pga & european and to fill the hole of quantity, add variants by month and per like major also add clubs balls etc
Yeah im not sure how it would be implemented however I am sure it is definitely a talking point considering how much money sports games pull in from virtual pack sales.
If they had it for PS4 I could try it. But as it is currently that is not possible. But I’m really enjoying 2k23 honestly. 2k23 deserves the rights to the actual courses same as EA.
great review and analysis brother!
Much appreciated!
Just let us play regular career mode with the golfers in 2k. Would be a lot better.
Only TW07 on 360 let you play Tiger woods in career mode
Great question. Anyone know the answer to this?

Totally can see that where each will cater to different types of play. That would be cool to have team club events. More options the better

@@PhillyBatts Thx, just started playing and love the game and discovered create-a-course; anxious to download courses. Almost have to try the EA game too to play Augusta.
okay I see you Kilbride out here going viral!
Haha cheers shadow.
@@Kilbride10 yes I agree that they put their best foot forward. I'm looking forward to a good video game franchise battle
For real. 2k need to adjust their Lidar maps around the greens. Most of the greens in 2k are on a plateau and ball rolls right off the edge too much. They're not like that in real life lol
@@kb00097 If you're an Augusta fan, go play Tiger woods 14 masters historic edition you'll love 1934 Augusta
@@ゆみす魔王 I have it for the 360 love that game as well
Thx for the comparison 👍😎🇩🇪
The bar is set so low with the 2k series that I think EA will easily take the crown. The gameplay on 2k is wonky and doesn't seem to have real golf physics. The putting and chipping just doesn't seem right. I have zero desire to play any courses made in the course designer. Only the top few are actually good. 2k is a $40 game pretending to be a full release.
So, single player = EA
multi = 2k.
EA Graphics a lot better over 2k 3:00
Yeah I would pretty much agree with all of thus
The only reason I picked 2k was the 3 click mode, I love it. If EA had a 3 click then I would have purchased that.
I think in the long term its in EA's pipeline but no set dates so thats your best bet for now.
Are any of the games compatible with the Garmin R10 Launch monitor?
I have not heard of anything along that line so I would venture to guess no
@@Kilbride10 Before that reality check totally destroys my wishful thinking and I pretend you answered yes. Can they please add a setting that makes my golf look much better than it really is?
@@dannyvanderwalt9535 😂😂😂 @Eadevelopers
Love that ending! Great overview of both options here Kilbride!
Much appreciated! Can't wait for the full competition to unfold
EA also had cool mini games that you could play for hours on the couch with friends. I wish they’d bring those back
Mini Games are always a great add. I hope so too!
I just bought ea I know I am late just want to know if I made the right choice. Also it was cheaper
All about what you prefer. Each has their own pros and cons. If you’re enjoying EA it’s likely a good choice
For me I just want a golf game with the proper courses like Augusta etc
Augusta is a must for a golf game
i havent played 2k but i play rory mcilroy pga tour game on xbox one and i still think their graphics are better than todays
Sadly they do hold up with and perhaps surpass 2k in some areas. Graphics will heavily lean towards EA for sure
Yes!!👍
EA's career mode looks leaps and bounds more intriguing than 2k's. i didnt bother upgrading from 2k21 to 2k23, but this EA game looks like a great pickup
Especially with their new career preview it certainly does. Hope it holds up to the hype
I bought 2k last year and I was bored after week. I pre-ordered EA and I really hope it's like TWs 2004. Greatest golf game ever.
2k has very limited game modes. They did just add ranked online play (which should have been in game at launch). Im curious how many modes EA will have
@@Kilbride10 I would also like to know who has the better player creator.
@@robertcerda92 2k is very limited on player customization... I would guess EA will be better but I have no knowledge of what they plan on offfering. I base that soley on the fact that 2k has extreme limitations.
More people watched this video than any LIV tournament to date...LOL. Great Video Kilbride!! cant wait to see your review of EA before purchasing for myself.
hahaha thanks man
actually thats not even close to being true ;}
i have 2k's golf game since it was released and it looks like it will be the only one I will have unless EA gets smart and stops just being a next-gen they would make even more money that way.
They will not be releasing in prior gen. They made the decision to go with the new graphics system which is next gen only. So unfortunately it will remain tied to next gen
They are charging too much for these games i find.
Crazy how the standard price for games has changed so much
No mention of swing mechanics ?
Do they have 2 click, 3 click ,no click, game pad ,mouse ?
At the time of the video it was unknown. Both have 3 click option as well as swing stick.
@@Kilbride10 cheers fella. It's £12 on steam just now. Don't play 3 click as always used mouse ( true swing ) on all the other TW games.
for sure. With 2k they have thouasands of courses thanks to the course designer mode. I like the feel of the swing better as well, hence my preference.@@thefella131
@@Kilbride10 Because you have to use the keyboard to swing with the EA game and not the mouse I'm sitting it out. Cheers fella 👍
Very fair. Course designer is such a cool mode. Massive sandbox for everyone to explore
I started with 2k23 and enjoy the game but it’s very buggy and crashes a lot. I have preordered the deluxe edition of the Ea game, hopefully it’s less buggy and doesn’t crash.
Hopefully one day they let us play career matches with friends online.
Coop careers would be really cool concept!
@@jlschump exactly! I hope EA launches with some quality game modes or innovative ones like this.
Best golf game for me was the one on philips CDI and TW in 2005 on playstation ...
2 k for the win. They have the fun factor ❤
Everyone loves 2k lol…I love ea golf for easier reasons graphics are usually better you actually have to develop your swing cause it’s full motion ea is a harder Game then 2k so people love 2k lol
The basic settings in 2k that may be the case. However a lot of people crank up the difficulty and it plays much more challenging as opposed to ea
First comment… I’m buying the other game, but…. Don’t think it takes TGC tours. They are the real reason I play this game
Yes with a well developed online ranked system or competiion modes... things like TGC will not be needed. That being said I am a big proponent of everything TGC Tours puts together and love everything they bring to the table. The games will both suffer if that is the only way competition is conducted.
Great comparison. Unfortunately for me there is no way I will touch this game seeing that I am on Console and it will be maxed at 30 FPS
I suppose the environments in those games tend to all be very similar and can be streamlined to boost performance
Hopefully they figure that one out
@@justinmorris9519 Yes exactly, and on top of that they are releasing only on next gen and on advanced frostbite engine... odd to say the least that they are using 30 fps. Hopefully its not as negatively impactful as it potentially sounds.
I already got 2k23 and will be getting EA PGA. I hope the competition brings out the best in future iterations of both games.
EA is locked at 30 FPS - Please boycott that shit.
Thats my hope as well!
Tiger 12 I still play today ! Love it
Masters with the power and spin control with the heartbeat moment brings back memories. Ea wins
Nice, come here to see which game I should buy and watch the whole video and don't get an opinion on which one should I buy.
Buy 2k
No course creator universe in EA leaves 2k23 as king
Massive advantage for 2k in that area. Officially licensed majors will grab quite a large number of eyes though
I really hope EA brings in crossplay!
With their other games they are (F1/Fifa). Im sure its on the top of their priority list once they launch.
Cross play not an issue for me at all....I'm waiting to form any type of opinion...thanks for the video.
Fair enough. Let’s hope the both keep pushing each other!
1:41 .. Doesnt matter how many courses ea has 2k always has a better creative community in their games
Pumped to play ranked on EA ! Nothing beats the adrenaline dump we used to have in Rory , can’t wait !
If you enjoyed the Rory game I will imagine you for sure will not be disspointed with the new EA game.
Competition is good
EA didn't need competition to make good golf games...
I would strongly agree
I am a MyPlayer exclusive sports gamer, but EA has been nothing but a let down year after year in FIFA and Madden, as they just never ever make improvements or add things players want. Their physics engine and graphics are just hype EA uses to hide all the flaws.
Just bout 2k last night since it was on sale, I haven’t seen graphics like it since ps2
😂😂😂
We as the consumer wins. This hopefully is the start of these companies pushing each other again instead of resting on their names
Iuse to play as greklive on 360
Have played the 2k series since it came out a few years ago. Love the game. EA game looks fantastic and I will be purchasing day 1.
You and I both! Hoping EA comes out swinging!
Regardless of how good the game is...smh , EA LOVE mugs like you
Do you think EA will add more pro golfers to the roster before release?
I have a feeling they will. A couple of the biggest names right now (Rory and Hovland) are not associated with either game at the moment. I wonder if it could be rhem
Personally I’m all about the immersion, and even without all the famous courses on EA, I can’t get over how bad the graphics are on 2k 23, it honestly looks like a game from 2018.
Ea certainly delivers higher end graphics. IMO the gameplay is enough for 2k to win me over but i certainly understand your sentiment
I really like both
