i have these puma shin pads were it comes with a sleeve and in the sleeve there is a pocket to put my shin pad in, i also were my socks over my knee by the way i am good but the reason is because when i was like 8 i kept on getting my knee cut open so put my sock over my knee to prevent it getting cut and it worked so its just habit

You can burn the edge of the sock (with a lighter or something) where you cut it to seal it back and make it last longer.
