  • The test facility at Hällered in Sweden is a veritable torture chamber for cars. Here, Volvo cars are made to suffer around the clock in extraordinarily tough conditions. (In just a few months cars are aged as much as during the entire anticipated lifetime of the vehicles in normal traffic.)

Kinda" cool to see a V60 in 2010 when this was published to RUclips, that I would own a new one in the USA in 2015.

What was the anticipated lifetime of a 2006 Volvo compared to a 2016 Volvo? For my family, keeping a good car for 15 years is nothing. We have kept a 1994 Ford Escort for that long, and I intend to keep my S60 for at least 10 more years with religious maintenance.

Innovation is often just marketing phrase, and testing new aid systems does not happen very often. Companies simply like to conform to the existing ones.

Turns out american manufacturers never did tests like this. Otherwise all the crap transmissions would have failed in the first day....

I replaced the 2002 S60 with a 2016 V60 XC last week. Love both. Just did my very first road trip with the v60 to Whistler today, the whole front end is covered with road-salt dust. Can you guys give me some tips on cleaning the road salt off the underside of the vehicle? Thanks!
My parents ordered me to get rid of the S60. Because its AWD is not working and will cost $2000 to fix. And a minor leakage related to the turbo is "under observation". Plus a few years back we spent $6000 to replace the transmission. They have given up on keeping the old faithful :(
The S60 was the family vehicle and was given to me went I was old enough to drive. It's like my brother so I was very sad to see it go.
Want to know if my old S60 just being unlucky. First, the transmission "fried" and need to be replaced when it was just 80,000km and now the AWD failed at 170,000km. With other problems, it has been on the tow trucks quite a few times. Even the dealer say my old S60 was the first one they encounter that needed to completely replace the transmission (Cuz the original transmission have already been rebuilt once, but the slipping problem was still there. And a few thousand km later it "fried", with it a few other cooling related systems).
Edit: 2022 update! Watching Volvo videos and noticed I have been here already a few years ago XD. So not long after that original comment back in 2017, dad traded in his 2004 Nissan for a 2017 V60 Momentum and we became a 2 Volvos household. 2020 was a hot mess, so the 2016 V60CC was not brought-out but returned to the dealer for a 2020 V60CC. And last month mom retired and traded in her 2013 Ford for a V90CC. We are a 3 Volvos household now.

Hi, congratulations on your new V60! How do you like it so far? Regarding the road-salt we would advice you to contact your local dealer for best assistance for your specific car.

      Volvo Cars LOVE IT!
Only one minor disappointment: old Volvos have parking receipts holder, just a small piece of clear plastic to hold the parking pass under the windscreen. Very useful.
And the old S60 have seat pouches at the front edge of front row seats, also very useful. Maybe put them back in newer models? Thanks.

What city do you live in? Isn't Whistler 2 hours away from Bellingham? I live in Bellingham and drive an Acura RDX 2009. We hardly use any road salt here so I'm surprised how much road salt they use in Whistler as that's what you mentioned.

    • @Can-Am1989

Uhm, don't think it's per car. They said every driver wears out 2000 tires, maybe on more than one model? Not sure, they also say a test driver drives 100.000 km per year... that would mean a set of 4 tires change every 200 km. Now that sounds a little bit exaggerated.

Did you even listen to the video? That distance driven hard is equivalent to a much greater distance in normal driving.
And sure, if your daily commute is hours long and done at over 200 km/h, then you earn the right to call this "laughably easy." Until then, you're nothing but someone who talks big on the internet.
