Absolutely loved this! And you are so right, there is love and happiness in these mountains and a strong sense of family. It’s a blessing to be from the mountains, it is for me. I love the mountain folks!
You gotta admire the dedication.... it's not cheap or easy to set up a display like that....but it would be fun to do... Eastern Kentucky is full of wonderful people and things, it's just too often all you hear about is the poverty, drug use and that sort of thing...

Thank you for sharing this is is beautiful!I bet it is even prettier when it snows. Merry Christmas to you both! Glad that train didn't run over something!!
The train incident was interesting, normally the crew van would be there to make sure they didn’t back over the crossing. The reasoning behind that, they were losing a coal train just up the road at the Creech loadout. The siding there is called Glidden, and you can follow the old road up to the wye where you would go to the Mary Helen commissary. They would have brought those hoppers out of the holler and then reversed back on the main and leave them there, then take the engines off, hook up to the second cut of hoppers on around the curve, then back those up the holler to load. Once they load those hoppers, they would pull them back out along the track farthest out, then back down the track closest to you guys and couple to the other set of hoppers and head back to Loyall. I hope that makes sense haha, I had to reread that a few times myself 😂, great video! Didn’t know they did that up there!
Makes perfect sense Micah, we did notice a guy with a flashlight it looked like he had walked down with the back of the train I thought he might be a conductor or some other employee and apparently that's what he was there for because the train did not back into the crossing so I don't think anyone was in any real danger of getting ran over, but that train coming out of the dark without lights and all that break noise got our attention to say the least LOL. Maybe more suitable for a Halloween video than a Christmas video though. Thanks for helping us understand what was going on, we can always count on you for accurate train information. Have a very merry Christmas and a blessed New Year.

milwees used to live in the camp.
Is Chevrolet close to Cumberland or Evarts? My mother was born in a coal camp up above Evarts.
Chevrolet is about halfway between Harlan and Cawood going towards Virginia.
