For most of the day it had looked as though GM Hikaru Nakamura would defeat GM Alireza Firouzja in classical chess, but instead the youngster defended brilliantly and won the blitz showdown. World Champion Ding Liren squandered two winning positions as he lost in armageddon to GM Fabiano Caruana.
