- We've received some great questions from our community of members, wanting to know more about a whole host of key areas at Mossy Earth. The topics we address in this Q&A include: our approach to building our own rewilding hubs; social value in our projects; buying land; climate change & carbon metrics; our course; how to find out more about the science behind our projects and more.
Timestamps:
0:00 Intro
01:03 Why did you decide to shift your focus towards building your own project hubs instead of just continuing to collaborate with partners?
04:09 Will you still be open to financing new partner led projects in the future?
04:41 Will the selection process for partner led projects change now that you’re more focused on the hubs?
05:35 Will the hubs enable you to offer more opportunities for volunteering and student research?
06:41 How do you make sure that your projects consider the interests of the local communities and are implemented in line with local regulations?
12:43 Your project in Ecuador is quite different from your previous projects with its focus on community development. Is this a direction that you’re planning to move more towards as an organisation in your future projects as well?
14:06 When will you expand your work to more countries and which countries would be next?
15:14 Are you planning to buy more land in the future?
16:48 How does your work help fight climate change and to what degree do you consider this when selecting and planning your projects?
20:02 Why don’t you measure or report any carbon metrics?
21:58 Why did you decide to invest in creating a rewilding course?
22:40 Who is the course meant for and what can one learn from it?
24:59 How much does the course cost and why can’t you offer it for free?
26:01 Are you planning to create more courses in the future?
26:34 Where can I learn more about the science behind your projects?
30:59 Now that the membership is growing, why don’t you reduce the percentage of the funds that is used to cover Mossy Earth’s running costs?
31:39 You don’t offer many opportunities for volunteering on the ground, but what about opportunities to help the team with non-project related work?

For the record I haven't been watching QnAs for long. While listening to you talk is lovely I feel like some answers are needlessly long, especially when it's explained in abstract and then multiple examples are provided. I feel like concrete answers through references to specific projects are more than enough.
Also the wind really stole the show, might want to uninvite it for next round xd
Very interesting. Thanks for the video
Glad you found it useful. cheers! Tim
would help if we had stats on the screen
Great idea, note taken for future Q&As! cheers Tim
Have and will continue to support..
Have you considered filtering some funding toward a number of low-cost nursery build-outs (tree/fish/plant) in various climates/zones to decrease cost for future, or upcoming, projects? Also, as a following thought I feel a more strategic and collected voice would do well, or better, here; this seems almost like a flinging of abstracts and I know your org is doing more importing things. Education is certainly the phase I see this group inhabiting - claiming more feels inappropriate. Often 'Orgs' feel the need for alignment in effort and voice but I feel it is unnecessary here. Further I hear an ask for mobilization/demonstration and I would ask if non-fully prepared/educated people's efforts would help or hurt the process. Sorry, for throwing multiple concepts and questions into this - I do appreciate what your org is doing!
Thanks for all the feedback! We're looking into ways of establishing our efforts in more concentrated areas like through our hubs, which could involve building nurseries as you mention. In terms of education, our video team is working on a new idea which would boost our educational content and of course, our main channel videos already inform about the ecosystems, species and context around our projects. We haven't directly engaged in mobilization/demostrations as our focus has been on ecosystem restoration primarily but in our upcoming rewilding course, there are modules which help guide people through the political activism landscape to make a difference there. cheers Tim
Good stuff, you guys need a sound man :-D
I was gonna say they need one of those fuzzy Mike covers
Yeah lol. Either a mic or a wind cover 😂
Fantastic work guys
Ive noticed that you haven't posted on the main Mossy Earth chanel in a while
I thought there was going to be a series of updates on the Rainforest project
Plus i would love to see update videos on the
Quarry
Oysters
Understory
Kelp
Man made beaver dams in Scotland
Flooded forest
Thanks Lieslfrank, we are almost ready with the next Yasuní rainforest video on the main channel. Thanks for being patient! Duarte has been out in the field filming for more projects, including some on your list and a few projects which we'll be introducing in detail. I hope this gets you excited for what's to come! cheers Tim
so excited for the course launch!
It's an idea that's been brewing for a long time so we're just as excited to launch it! You can expect to see announced on our channels in the coming weeks! cheers Tim
Why don’t you do this on the main channel?
They wouldn't get as many views. If they did upload it there it would negatively affect metric for RUclips's algorithm and their videos wouldn't be recommended.
Only for the hardcore fans :-D
Great question, we created the Field Notes channel to share more on our projects at length, like in our project discussion videos and these Q&As. It's also somewhere we wanted to show raw footage from the field in vlogs to give you a perspective from our biologists and their fieldwork, and like mentioned in this thread, probably more suited for the hardcore fans 😆
