Hey I want to make a diy skid plate but im no car expert. Are there any parts that I should not have the skid plate cover, or need room to move at all? Or is it fine to just cover the entire undercarriage with the skid plate? Thanks
Subd! In Columbia, SC is a pretty badass shop called Bashfab that makes custom one off bumpers and anything you can dream up down to furniture and handrails.. Should check them out for simple pre runner bumpers! They just did one on a 2011 Tacoma and front on a Tundra recently that was sweet
I have been searching and researching for a little over a month off and on and debating whether I wanted to make my own or order some. I was in the same boat, looking at the prices of PP or Fabworks and comparing that to a sheet of steel, seeing this I might just go ahead and do my own! Awesome video looking forward to more on the Frontier. Also, any idea what gauge steel you went with?
Great video thanks for posted. I am looking to do the same for my xterra and have a few question. What were the dimension of the steel sheet and where did you buy it ? Is it expensive ? Thanks iA.
It was a 4x8 sheet of steel. It was leftover from an old job. I’m not sure of the price. Even buying a brand new sheet and tools will be significantly less expensive then buying the premade plates.
Awesome. Came out good. I really need some skids, price is just too insane. I might try to fab my own. Thanks for the vid 👍🏼
just subd! Nice Skid! I love DIY!
I love my frontier
Subbed. Nice currently looking for material to make one for my Lexus.
Great fabrication!
Great video.
Do you by chance still have those exact measurements?
I have a water jet and press break at work and would love to use it them for this.
@@fergk5527 I don’t have the exact measurements. I literally went under the truck with a tape measure and just built it as I went.

Great work! How’d you secure the skids to the truck?
Heavy duty self tapping screws.

That’s good to know. What do they charge for a super simple prerunner style front?

I’m not exactly sure. It was thick enough to do the job. It was some leftover I had access to.

1/4 inch steel in alabama is not cheap.
Nice work you haven't done any Turkey hunting? Or had any luck?
Scott Mosley I hunt a ton. I mean a ton! I just couldn’t make it happen
Yeah was tough this year I got one opening day but was it like they all got hush mouth
Also could you tell me the dimensions of the sheet metal you used? Length and width
Thanks!!
I don’t know what the dimensions were. I just got under the truck with a tape measure and started measuring until I got it all figured out
SCliving Outdoors ok cool thanks
What tires were those, look decent
Atturo Trail Blade X/T All Terrain. They’ve been a good tire.
Any chance I could get a copy of those measurements?
I have no idea what they were. I just got under the truck with a tape measure and measured then drew a diagram on a scrap piece of paper.
Around what area of SC are you residing in?
Central western part of the state.
SCliving Outdoors not too many RUclipsrs into similar things that live in the Carolinas
Wanted to see rack system
That video will be up the end of this week.
