Puccini may have heard this tune on a music box containing several Chinese folk songs a friend brought back with him from China (the box was made in Switzerland then shipped to China and later purchased by his friend). The box contained the folk song Mo Li Hua which became the main theme for Puccini's opera Turandot. Some historians think the actual music box now resides in a museum in Morristown, New Jersey.
I was in this opera singing this very tune as a child. (Hungarian National Opera House) Still remember the lyrics too as it was taught to us phonetically. Wow, this little gem brought back wonderful memories....Thank you! 😊 ❤️
I’m Italian, from Torre del Lago Puccini, and I remember my schoolmates and I learnt this song back in elementary school and sang it for a show at our local theatre. Beautiful memories, beautiful melody, beautiful culture…our beloved Giacomo Puccini knew his stuff!
@@Dan474834 many people from my hometown don’t care about him because they probably don’t understand nore appreciate his talent but personally I’ve always felt grateful and somewhat “blessed” for being born here, having the possibility to be so strictly connected to such a great artist! I’ve always loved his music and always will, I don’t wanna say I’m the only person in my hometown feeling this way towards Giacomo Puccini but I can surely affirm that you need to feel his music in your heart, in your bones, in order to understand the blessing you received by being born here…otherwise you were just born in a random place on earth where once used to live a famous random man.
@@francescasofiaferroni8538 Puccini’s music is universal and transcends borders, but I can’t imagine having grown up so close to it. You are truly blessed, thanks for sharing.

Splendida melodia! Puccini un grande!
Flavio Medici Puccini si è ispirato a 茉莉花, una famosa canzone popolare cinese nata nel 18 secolo. Prova a cercarla!
