The tool works well I think and is easy to use. I’ve used for many years and I like it and held up long enough to plant in the ground. I don’t get a newspaper either but we get free weekly shoppers that are newspaper and I can get newspapers from friends. 👍 thanks for the seed heads up!

That’s another good idea! Thanks! 😊 I’m glad to hear they hold up well. I think I’m going to order it and give it a try!

Oh, Great find. I've never seen that tool. I think I'm gonna order it also... I normally use the cardboard-ish mouthwash cups also but they get expensive as well... I can use the brown packing paper that comes in all of the Amazon packages I get... I usually keep the paper for worm bedding for my worm bucket/house in my raised bed so I think that same paper will work good for the seed starting cups too... I have tons of that brown paper. THANKS for the info.

I didn’t even think of the brown paper from Amazon! Great idea! 💡 👏

The newspaper holds together pretty well…If you wrapped the pot tight enough….its best to keep them in a plastic tray, close together to support each other…and don’t move them around too much. The roots start to grow into the newspaper it seems like, in my experience. So up potting does not really work but you could just plant the entire pot in the ground.

Me and my husband used to make seed cups out of newspaper strips using a toilet paper tube. Or a paper towel tube. Just wrap an inch or two of newspaper off the end of the tube and fold the extra over the end of the tube to make the bottom of your cup. Sorry if that doesn’t make any sense 🥴😂 but you don’t have to spend 10/15$ on a wooden newspaper cup molder thingy.
You might could even use a small mason jar. Like the jelly/jam jars. The 8 ounce ones. Roll your strips around that. Leave enough hangin off the end of the jar to tuck into the bottom, and fill with dirt. They hold up okay to watering. But like someone else already said. The roots will tend to want to grow through. And usually the newspaper won’t break down in a season. But definitely can be very useful in a pinch. And they work well enough to get things started!
Anyway. All that to say 😂 thanks for sharing about the seed sale. And if you do end up with that tool, make sure to show us! 😊

That seems fairly easy! I still may go on and get the tool. I’m not too graceful with my hands. I feel like it would be origami! 🤣🤣🤣 I’ll keep y’all posted! Thanks for the insight!

Thank you I have Migardner, Hoss, and Rohrer, I use the solo cups for tomatoes and I did buy a soil block this past season. Can't wait to see you renovations and keep up the good work. We only have an acre and trying to decide if I want to buy a small tractor or a BCS two wheel tractor?

i have tried them all, including this wooden seed cup tool you refered to. I stopped using it years ago but kept it and might try again. I was surprised how well it works, and is kindof fun...unless you have a hundred to make and then its time consuming. The main reason I moved onto another method was the orange mold that grew on every paper cup. It didnt appear on my seed trays, only these newspaper cups. I came to conclusion there was something in the ink or maybe the paper itself that harbored mold spores. But I really dont know for sure.

Thanks for the info! 😊Yikes about the orange spores! I might try a different type of paper to see if that will be okay. 👍

That sounds cool. Maybe when you up pot them you could just put the newspaper pot right into the bigger container?
