How's it going, everybody? I hope ya'll safe!
In this episode, I'm restoring an old fishing spoon, which been sitting in my tackle box for a few years. I was leaving it wet in the box multiple times, so corrosion got on it pretty bad and old plating starting to look like crap!
Luckily I learned how to electroplate at home at a very low cost, and result was pretty darn impressive!

Love it! I've also been playing around with these processes, seemingly right along with you! I have had that same problem with all of my attempts to plate with nickel.... and my power source is the same as yours! That explains so much! it's 1:00am, but I'm still tempted to pull out all the chemicals and find a piece to plate, just to try it! Thanks for such an informative (and well edited) video!

The fact people were able to discover and understand electro plating whatever and how it works is a truly remarkable discovery.

Nice, I have some nickel plated hardware on an old machinist chest that needs a redo. Thanks for the tip on lower current.

@@Take_And_Make I was wondering where did you get, or how did you make the solution for the nickle plating. Also you mentioned it had to be plated with copper first, but I didn't see that either. Fantastic to see though. I really loved it.

@@humphrey3000 I brewed it myself, both Nickel and Copper. It's fairly easy, you put vinegar in your jar and a tablespoon of salt, put to electrodes(copper or nickel) and hook power on them and let it run for a few hrs until you see saturated color, blue for copper and green for nickel. Maybe I'll make a video tutorial on that one.
      Good luck!

      @@Take_And_Make Thank you, Sir.
I'm very interested because I do vintage clock and watch work.
From the actual watch and clock components to the tools we use, lots of stuff is nickel plated brass. So, this would be a very handy skill to have, indeed.

How long did would it take on your next go from start to finish. ?
Do you think a tumbler or vibratory polisher would work over night?

    • @Take_And_Make

      Paul Fladeland
Once everything set and your parts are clean and degreased it will take around 10 min to plate. I don’t have a vibratory polisher

Hi sir ! How did you make your platting solution with your anode? Nickel plus muriatic acid sitting in the bath for a night ?

    • @Take_And_Make
      @Take_And_Make  4 года назад +1

      Hi there!
No, I did mine with vinegar and a table spoon of salt. Put nickel anode and cathode and ran it for a few hrs with 12V and 2.7A
      Cheers!

I'm making one for zinc plating right now.
      - 25g of zinc
      - 75g sodium hydroxide
      - 1 liter of demineralized water
Will tell you how it goes !
