Bro…you are absolutely right. You know the stress mark is always indicated by a vertical bar.
But, while teaching, one cannot use the phrase “vertical bar” and say that so and so syllable receives the vertical bar in stead of saying that so and so syllable receives the stress mark.

I regret to inform you that while teaching you about ALLOPHONES, I have used the word
" phonemes" in the brackets instead of the word "allophones".
I, therefore, request you to replace the word 'phonemes' by
'allophones' and read the matter as ( " the allophones of 'l', the allophones of 'c' etc.)
