- Going out to eat just keeps getting more expensive. Now a popular restaurant in downtown LA is adding a 4.5% security fee and customers aren't happy about it.

I bet they are making a few thousand a day off that fee and it only costs them $140 per night to hire a security guard.
The owner probably keeps the remaining cash cause I doubt the owner will give every penny to his security team.
More ways businesses extort more and more money from consumers.
btw 140 is not enough for security.. perch due to location may need more security to get drunk mfs to the ground fl by elevator or stair..i would charge the customer also the question is how much..also every business do not need this

It costs $30-$40 an hour for 1 security guard. The cost of insurance has also increased quite a bit in 2024 for all businesses in CA and I'm sure the rent went up another 5%. Last but not least, you don't have to visit any business that you feel is ripping you off. We still have that little freedom in this communist state.

restaurants who add fees at the end of the meal, need to disclose that they will do that on the menu, or on the door or something.

I canceled medical insurance for my family in '11; I stopped flying commercial in '16; stopped going to venues that required vaxx mandates in '21; and I stopped going to restaurants when the 4% fee was imposed. I don't "vote" but I do vote with my dollars.

Add these to the list. "Bossa Nova" in West Hollywood is also charging a Kitchen fee. "Met her at a bar" on Labrea and Wilshire is charging a health care charge fee.

This is to offset the new minimum wage . The owner is supposed to pay the employees, not the customers .It's because of the new minimum wage. Cheap. A great meal , all included should be about 10 to 15 dollars -plus 15 % tip ( 1 to 2 dollars) Total : 11 to 17 dollars per meal. . No tip if bad service or bad food. Only pay in cash and leave the tip on the table. in cash. Never use a card.
Lol it’s one of those double edged situations. Crime is rampant due to the current political climate. And to give a safer environment they pay for security. However the thing that gets to me is I don’t get how big corporations get away with to keep business running they need to raise fees while people are struggling. Yet the executives and CEO seem to make more and more money. Like I always say they are not happy with 25 mansions so they hire less staff don’t pay them adequately and raise price on a vow that they want to keep quality good and fast yet quality goes down they hire less staff and they still are able to get 50 mansions. Instead of complaining about prices and employee wages just boycott companies that follow those ethics. Guarantee when they have the options to make less money or no money they will choose less money as it can spark cheaper alternative competition.

I've just imposed my own Perch restaurant non-patronize mandate.
Of course, no discussion about the failure of the city which is causing the need to have private security. Wouldn't want to be critical of the local politicians and policies...
These taxes make America great so if you get robbed in or outside the restaurant do you get your money back ?

they forgot to add the Luxury air fee......High end filter installed at the place to filter out Healthy Air for customers.

I rather they increase their prices, which we are not dumb, they do this anyway, but I do not patronize any restaurant that charges me a penalty to use my credit card. My list of restaurants in PA is getting bigger, but there are many more restaurants that don't charge the fee and they will get my business.

They aren't looking far enough ahead, I would sue them if a security breach happened, and that could be anything from a robbery up to and including harm of anyone around me or myself! Calling it a security fee opens them up BIG TIME!
It doesn't matter where they put the extra coast, it is still an increase. I can buy $6.50 of hamburger meet and make 3 burgers for the price of one, at a dinner or fast food. Buns, tomato, onions, pickle, once bought they could make several with the correct amount of meat bought. So if I had $20 I could make about 3 or 4 hamburgers. (Meat weight 6oz ea. is fine enough).
On another note, I myself have no more desire to dine out. More over, Fast food is a thing of the past as of last Monday. I don't eat fast food anyways but I would never go from the $1.99 burger made with animals ends, to $22 burger made from animal ends.
