Falling back into the good ol' habits of recording at least one video a week, I struggle to show you how to effectively make piano melodies. As you can tell, I'm very rusty with the whole "talking" thing... maybe i'm always rusty - who knows.
Sorry about the sound quality of the piano, don't really know what happened to be honest, it just recorded with a slight decimation filter? lol Yeah.

I do realize that I'm watching this video 8 years later, and you may be in another stage of life, but I just wanted to encourage you:
This is an amazing tutorial. You did not talk to much at all! The difference between talking too much and not talking too much is relevancy. Everything that you explained was perfectly relevant; you explained everything in detail, and they were useful details, which is what matters. Like the old adage "there's a place for everything and everything has its place." This was brilliantly done Sir.
(I mean, eight years later and you taught me something new and useful about using Pitcher!)
    Thank You, Well Done.

Beautiful. Not everyone can come up with nice little melodies like this. Huge respect.

Also, I find just raw piano much better than any banging dance tracks I hear by far any day.

Of course anyone can just randomly enter notes in the piano roll following the scale. I've studied music theory. But I disagree with you, getting the feel right, I.E. - knowing when to play piano or forte, legato etc etc. does take talent. Otherwise we would all be Beetoven.

Resort HUB IT TAKES TIME PRACTICE AND DEDICATION. DONT QUIT BECAUSE ON YOUR FIRST TRY U DIDN'T GET IT. THAT IS WHY U MUST LEARN WHAT BARS ARE AS WELL AS , SCALES, CHORD PROGRESSIONS WHICH NOTES ARE IN A SCALE, MUSIC THEORY ETC. OUNCE U UNDERSTAND THAT THEN ITS UP TO U TO COME UP WITH UR MELODIES, CHORD PROGRESSIONS BASICALLY YOUR BEAT/INSTRUMENTAL. ONE BIG POINT HE MADE IN THIS TUTORIAL HE MAKES MELODIES ETC. DEPENDING ON HOW HE FEELS/MOOD HE IS IN. MUSIC AND I MEAN ALL MUSIC GENRES ARE BASED ON EMOTIONS. IF YOU ARE HAPPY U WILL MAKE HAPPY MUSIC, IF YOU ARE MAD ETC. U WILL MAKE MUSIC ON HOW YOU FEEL FOR THE DAY OR WEEK. OTHERS CAN CREATE MOODS OF MUSIC NO MATTER HOW THEY FEEL. FOR EXAMPLE U COULD HAVE A BAD DAY OR WEEK BUT OUNCE YOU GET IN FRONT OF YOUR STUDIO YOU ESCAPE THE WORLD AND CREATE HAPPY MUSIC JUST TO FORGET THE B/S YOU WENT THRU THAT DAY OR WEEK. OR U CAN CREATE REBELLIOUS MUSIC BECAUSE TAKING OUT UR FRUSTRATION MUSICALLY MAKES IT EASIER INSTEAD OF PUNCHING YOUR MANAGER IN THE FACE FOR BEING AN ASSHOLE. MAKING MUSIC IS LIKE THOSE WHO WRITE BOOKS AND CREATE MOVIES OF A WORLD THEY SEE OR INTERPRET LIKE THE MATRIX.

Actually, I think your song is in the key of E flat. I believe that the D sharp major key only exists in theory. Because the key signature of D sharp major would consist of nine sharps. Meanwhile, the E flat major key only needs three flats while sounding the same. Think about how you would spell a D# major chord. You would do it like so : D# - F## - A#. Basically each note has a sharp or a double sharp. Now I'll spell an Eb major chord to compare : Eb - G - Bb. Fewer alterations in the Eb key makes it simpler to use.

    • @DICACIO1
      @DICACIO1 9 лет назад

The reason why most Musicians prefer composing in Eb Flat Major or Minor is because using D# Major or Minor spelling is a bit harsh on the eyes for sight readers.
However, if people want to accept the Challenge of composing in D# sharp madness... may their sanity remain intact LOL

Try lowering buffer latency thing. It was an issue I had with EWQLSO,
"It all comes down to buffer sizes, and you should be able to adjust this. The more tweaked and pimped out your system is, the lower the latency you can achieve without causing pops and clicks. "
High buffer leads to delays between pressing keys and hearing the sounds on the computer, low buffer leads to annoying clicks, so just find out which settings suit you. I'm not at home so I can't really find out where to navigate to find these settings, but I'm sure you can find it. :3

I absolutely loved your tutorial and I thank you very much for your insights and skilful exposition. Instant favourite.
As to "realism" I just wanted to add that, like photography and the other visual arts, less is often more in my book. Sometimes things get too 'bling" and surreal (such as HDR). So it is with this stuff, and personally I preferred your "drier" treatment prior to the reverb and whatnot.
    Very best wishes.

Well, you are completely right! FL Studio is very difficult at the beginning. I did not understand anything at the very beginning. Now all I never tried, was to use external controls other than Keyboard and Mouse, which definitely is enough for someone making it just as hobby like me.
But back on topic: I'd love to have a plugin, creating realistic Piano sounds... I don't mean generate, I mean replay a recording, like a few Plugins do. That sounds better, but is uncommon and hard to find!

AN OFF BEAT IS BASICALLY THE 3rd BEAT IN A QUARTER NOTE. FOR EXAMPLE IF U SET UP UR GRID TO 1/16 NOTES AND 4/4 TIME, WHICH MOST PRODUCERS USE WHEN MAKING A BEAT, U WILL SEE 4 BOXES FROM LET SAY 1st BAR TO 2nd BAR MEANING 1 BAR. EACH OF THOSE BOXES REPRESENT A QUARTER NOTE WITHIN THOSE BOXES U WILL SEE 4 MORE SMALL BOXES WHICH REPRESENT BEATS AS IN STEPS AND HOW THEY DETERMINE THE TEMPO OF A SONG BPM, IF YOU ADD THOSE SMALLER BOXES THE SUM WILL BE 16 WHICH IS THE MEANING 1/16 AS FOR 1 BAR WITH 16 STEPS OR BEATS.

a little tip, always the output sound coming from the vst should be low to overcome peaking, like at -14 db and the knoob on the left of the pattern should be always 100%... then mix the sound on the mixer to higher the frequencies and get a clear sound. I got this tip from a video of a sound engineer. SORRY MY ENGLISH IS NOT PERFECT..

Pretty tune. Good tip about using "Pitcher" to see notes in a scale.

If you're doing it within piano roll, you select all of the notes by holding down ctrl and dragging your mouse over the notes you wish to copy, then pressing Ctrl + C for copy. To paste, you go into piano roll for the next instrument and press Ctrl + V. If you don't want to go into piano roll to do it because you wanna copy the whole thing, right click on the channel (in the pattern interface) > edit > Copy. Then follow the same steps to paste except you click "paste" on the other channel.

Not really sure why Germany is gettting so worked up on this piece, but personally I think it turned out quiet nice. Considering the fact this was done within less then half an hour. Really impressed mate.

I cannot describe the sheer amount of awe, envy, and jealousy I am experiencing right now. That pretty much makes you a badass seeing how that rarely happens to me.
