I must admit it took me a long time before I challenged Mammorest! They are an awesome mount! (I lucked out and found a lucky, that thing was ridiculous! Fun to catch too, as this was before the mercy ring... You get the pal resource drops just by catching them, so catching herds of Lamballs is a great little source of income, wool, and mutton! (And a little XP, more than just killing them.)
The Wildlife preserves are great for finding rare pals, if you can orbit the perimeter of the two levels it will cycle through spawns, you don't need to catch everything. The real fun was before the patch was that if you aggro'd the guards, they would follow you around and keep shooting you! Even if you fast travelled, they would still keep spawning in your area until they killed you, or until you killed off a certain number of them. (The evil thing to do was to go to a volcano, and hover over lava! You didn't even get charged with assault when they made the ultimate hot drop!) =P
A couple tips: Your Palbox is a fast travel point. You can bounce between bases or anywhere else you unlocked. If you haven't already figured it out, you can bake cakes in the cooking pot, or faster in the electric stove. Oh, for happier pals: Fluffy beds, cooked food (Even down to just baked berries. Look at the san recovery stat of each food item) and the big spa really helps. i had a heavy mining base and needed four spas to keep everyone content. Mostly because it was on difficult terrain, and depending on where the pals were working pathing was still kind of broken. Then they sat in trees and cried at me! =^^; )
