      @@juanvillajimenez3492 With my Spanish being limited I would like to ask one question to both of you. Have the Mexican groups that you mentioned written such profound metaphorical poetry like Pau? Her intellectualism makes The Warning stand out from the rest. I am talking about using deep intelligent metaphors and not allegories to describe something. For example, she created the term - Dull Knives. In English knives are either sharp or blunt. However, by coining the phrase "dull knives" Pau immediately makes the listener curious and think.

    • @lootier3203
      @lootier3203 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@MrSudeepdas If I may, I'm from Mexico and have enjoyed rock music for most of my life, and I think there have been quite a few interesting Mexican bands lyrics-wise. I personally like bands like El Personal, Bon y los Enemigos del Silencio or La Cuca for their way with words. Caifanes tried some sort of surreal poetry, but I'm not sure they succeeded. Still, The Warning has some of the best lyrics, for sure, and music that fits them perfectly. Songs that grab your attention and won't let go even after they finish.
      The only band that has impressed me more with their lyrics is Soda Stereo, but they are Legends, and the Villarreal sisters are still on their way there. But I have no rush and no doubt The Warning will get to where they deserve.

    • @MrSudeepdas
      @MrSudeepdas 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@lootier3203 Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts. I have heard about Soda Stereo. Unfortunately my Spanish is not at all good enough to appreciate them.
      Pau has written some great metaphorical poetry in English that is unparalleled. Take Dull Knives for example. We know in English a knife is either sharp or blunt. But Pau called it dull. And therein lies her intellectualism as she created a new phrase that makes us pause & think. Similarly in Narcisista the way she used the word Malinchista is phenomenal. I don't know whether in Mexican literature Malinchista has been used in that way before. Maybe you can tell me more.

    • @lootier3203
      @lootier3203 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@MrSudeepdas The best way to describe the writing style of Gustavo Cerati (Soda Stereo's leader and main composer) would be elegant eroticism, perhaps even classy perversion. Notable examples are songs like No existes (you do not exist), En la Ciudad de la Furia (In the City of Fury) and obviously Juegos de Seducción (Seduction games). I guess even with the translations you could get a clear idea of what I mean.
      Back to The Warning, I've commonly heard a blunt knife or sword being called "dull". Perhaps it is the Northamerican way (Argentinians think we are a bit too "yankee", and I agree), but even if she did not invent the expression, Paulina is a master lyricist and a creative force that cannot be ignored. There is a YT channel called Psychology of Rock, and Nena, the amazing host there (and a huge The Warning fan and supporter) recently uploaded a video dedicated to their writing prowess. All of her videos are worth checking!
      Narcisista is certainly special, given the context for both the word "Malinchista" and the song. Pau uses the term the same way their critics at the time did: a Mexican that favors what is foreign over something national. It was an elegant move, a "slap with a white glove" as we say here, to turn that critique into a fan favorite hit! And then they go and do Martirio, even though Pau feels it is much harder to write a rock song in Spanish. By the way, it was unforgivable of me not mentioning the cult group Botellita de Jerez among the Mexican bands with notable lyrics. They even have a song called Pinche Malinche ("pinche" is a strong term for what is lousy), dedicated to the historical figure La Malinche, origin of the word. But they do not try at all being poetic, their style is "pícaro", "alburero", obscene but in a playful and disguised way, and although it would be difficult explaining their innuendos and wordplay, I can say they leave you laughing but thinking!
      Regarding the Mexican literature, "Malinchista" is a common adjective and theme. Perhaps the most in-depth look to our Mexican idiosyncrasy would be the book "El laberinto de la Soledad" (The labyrinth of solitude) by Octavio Paz. There is even a second book, Return to the labyrinth of solitude, but I didn't like it that much and never finished it.
      Lastly, if you don't mind me asking, where are you from and how did you find The Warning? Are there more people who likes them in your country? Any worthy local bands or artists that I may be missing?

In their "Aftershow" movies released from their tours this year we can see Pau identifying Vivaldi being played by a street musician in Amsterdam. And if I remember correctly in another snippet we can see how she correctly guessed a Vivaldi piece that amazed her father, Luis, and Dany.

    I knew they had it in them to create an orchestral arrangement with one of their songs! Ever since Dani said in a documentary that it's the emotion of the song that may dictate what instrumentation you use! And here we are!! Muy Bueno! Frickin' Awesome!

    Phenomenal stage production. I love watching this band grow and expand their creativity and talents. Having the live video on Pau was amazing, I feel that sometimes her amazing expressions and pure joy gets cover up by the position of the drums and being behind her talented sisters, Dani and Ali. So excited for the future of these women of Rock!

    Metallica played Enter Sandman together with a full symphony orchestra. The Warning plays it with a small group of musicians. I think The Warning does it better than Metallica.

      They took very different approaches. Metallica's is very bombastic, more what Shostakovich, for example, might do. The Warning took an intimate chamber approach, which I think integrates better with the song. Needless to say I much prefer what TW did. That's not to say I don't enjoy orchestral music, just that I prefer this.

    Are you watching Metallica?
    Next year their tour ends in 4 nights (Sept 20th - Sept 29th ) in Foro Sol, CDMX.
    I know who I would invite to make it memorable evenings.

    Muy buen detalle, la orquesta, aun que solo se escuche bien en las partes calmadas, por que cuando entran con todo, el sonido de estas chicas devora la pequeña orquesta como un huracan de llamas que consume todo a su paso.

    Does anyone have a full translation of what Dany said at the end? It was very gracious of her to give them that kind of introduction, although to be perfectly honest it's nothing less than what I would expect from DPA.
    As a classical music buff also, I really liked what they did here. They didn't do it simply to achieve a lush sound (which needs more strings, anyway) or achieve an orchestral sound for the same songs, they actually added some interesting parts.
    I'm really curious about that interlude. It sounds familiar. I'm not sure if it's an actual piece from the classical/romantic era or something written for this, though. That short violin solo immediately before the lead-in to Enter Sandman is a nice touch.

    Not one month ago I said they should stop playing "Enter Sandman" ...
    My thought behind it was: They don't need this song anymore. It was their "door-opener" - sure, but they created so many own great titles - why should they use a "stolen" (well - we all know it is NOT like this) song?
    And right now - they are coming up with this version. This shows a few things:
    1.: They are constantly improving, trying out, developing - even with older and oldest songs (the song before was "Black Hole" played on a piano only by Pau - another old song.)
    2.: There IS time for trying out this and that (I don't know where they are doing it and when - but they do it)
    3.: They listen a lot to other music - old ones, "foreign" ones. What you see here is very common in the "symphonic metal area" - a lot of bands like "Epica", "Within Temptation" even smaller ones like e.g. "Beyond The Black" are doing live shows with a smaller or bigger orchestra. If you know Nightwish or Avantasia you know that their whole creation-process included a full-blown-classical-instument-players-setup. Anyhow - this is not (well you never know, but so far) the way for "The Warning" (ATM) - it takes time, much time and the revenue is small. But - they are constantly improving, developing - so you'll never know.
    4.: It seems they're earning "a bit" money to try themselves out (that's really great!). Musicians are expensive (well, each player needs money for living too).
    5.: They're constantly surprising
    6.: They're thinking "big" - at one point you can't return to the point where you startet. The Warning can't go back playing in small areas - they're somehow doomed for being the next big rock thing. It's what they wanted, it's what it seems they are supposed to do ... great for them (as they are enjoying it) and for us (more stuff for us to listen to).
    7.: If they're doing this at Wacken 2024 the audience will cheer them ... ;) - even if it IS Metallica (Metallicas music in the Metal-scene is something like a "it's evil" or "it's heavenly")

    How can you not be literally transported by this magnified version of Enter Sandman?
    At one point or another this marvel will have to be professionally edited, the opposite is simply not possible.
