That idea that Edom is Rome is compelling since this could explain why Southern Italians, Jews, and Arabs have haplogroup J predominantly, meaning they all likely have a common ancestor. Haplogroup J is otherwise rare in Europe, but common in the Middle East.
Shalom, This Sabbath is Toldot, "descendants," Bereishit, (Gen.) 25:19-28:9; Malachi 1:1-2:7; Romans 9:1-33. Theme: Hashem's Sovereign choice, and His Love for Israel. Baruch Hashem! Am Yisrael chai, Baruch haba b'shem Adonai! (Tehillim 118:26; Matthew 23:39) Be well and be Blessed! A fellow sojourner
Thanks Dr. Gordon and all. Question: Is the deal between Ishmael and Jacob the same as with Abraham - where he "cut a deal" with God, slaying an animal, quartering it, ans passing through the severed parts? @ approx. 18 minute time mark.
Persia is believed to be Elam, son of Shem. Some say Perez became Persia. Medes were believed to be son of Madai, son of Japheth. Assyrians of Assur, son of Shem. When in doubt, see what Josephus says!
Shalom, Scripture doesn't record the death of Esav, and the legend goes that he killed Nimrod, and took Adam's loincloth. I think Esav could be the one and only bigfoot. Also, Caine's death is not recorded. Things that makes me go "Hummm..." Be well and be Blessed!
Just an odd observation (this doesn’t mean replacement theory, because Jesus was a Jew born of the line of Judah and the founding apostles were ALL sons of Jacob/Israel thus labeled Jewish). But does the blessings run through Jesus? Odd how Esau the first born despised the birth right. The nation (leaders NOT the people) of Israel the first born nation of God rejected Jesus the promise the messiah, maybe despised? I think all Christians understand the blessings run through Jesus and He is the inheritance, the promise. The whole plan for inheritance, eternal life and blessings are given through Jesus. We all hope to hear Israel declare blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord Jesus/Salvation. His rule will be wonderful! His faithfulness in my life is wonderful!
From a Christian perspective, most definitely! Think about how Israel got a King: they demanded one from Samuel even though God would rather have them serve himself directly. Just the same way that the people at the first Shavuot at Mt. Sinai were allowed to purify themselves and stand before God's presence, but confessed they were not able to and they needed Moses to go before God and bring back his commands, so too did the Israelites demand a King to lead them instead of looking to God directly. This is just one more example of why Jesus is the lawgiver of the New Covenant just as Moses was the lawgiver of the Old Covenant. The only reason a King was allowed is because the King would be the one to establish the Messianic line of David, so all of God's promises to the Kings of Judah are Messianic prophecies on top of all the other promises that were given to the whole nation of Israel.
@amsterdamG2G Great reminder that Messiah is King, Lawgiver, and Judge! The government will be on his shoulder (Isaiah 9:6)! I like the next verse too! Messiah is our healer too! Isaiah 33:24 TLV [24] No inhabitant will say, “I am sick.” The people dwelling there will be forgiven their iniquity.

Seems more likely that Edom may be the Persians... or vice versa.
Shalom,
Deffinatly, Amalek is of Edom, but Edom is not Amalek.
