    Useful lesson, as always, Emma!
You know, what I appreciate of your lessons more is that IMHO your suggestions go beyond the mere study of English language.
    They're wider.
Especially for what concerns student's behaviours. Speaking about creating habits, we often say "I have no time for this", because of work, family, hobbies, whatever...
There is exactly where we have to change our mind! Getting out of the comfort zone IS the key. Hard but true.
If you want to get something you never had, you have to do something you never did.
Thanks, especially for your (indirect) motivational coaching too! ;-)

Around my Canadian friends they pick up my accent after being with my family. I've decided I want to sound more English because it will help me stand out as a sales person. Thank you for your tips!

I feel like my accent doesn't come naturally. When I hear myself, I think it sounds as if I'm trying way too hard to imitate a native speaker's accent.
Edit: 3 Years later I still feel that way, but I no longer care bc native speakers apparently like the sound of "exotic" accents like mine lmao

sometimes people tend to speak too clearly and put stress on wrong syllables in words
listen to lots of podcast from native speakers and see whch syllable they stress in each word and also the same syllable may not be stressed even its in the same word
listen to each word in different contexts
some people mix many accents together so if you are aiming for american you should be properly pronouncing r on all your words and domt frequently switch

I did that challenge with my kids and I told them no one has to talk Arabic, and all of us had to talk English only at home so all of us will learn together the accent and the pronunciation that we need but that's work truly. I was imagining how my kids upgrade their own pronunciation. I'm so proud of them and so proud of myself to take this decision at home, thanks Emma

Every time i talk to someone in English they assume english is my second language, i ask them “why is that?” And they tell me i have a strong accent. I honestly don’t understand how i have an accent sense English is my first language.

You can actually do it. It just needs a lot of practice. I had been hating my tongue for not cooperating with me when I speak English when I realized I need to do something with it. So I started to read anything out loud and record myself. In that way, I can hear myself, I can correct my stress, intonations and pronunciation. And now I can feel my accent getting better and better everyday. Nakayanan ko sis, kaya mo rin yan!

Eight years ago I moved from Italy to Germany with my family. In school I had to learn German and English. It wasn’t easy but I am a fast learner. However, one day a schoolmate (he is half British and half German) began making fun of my pronunciation in English class and he and his friends always laughed at me. Since then I am very insecure about my accent and pronunciation. I don’t know how to improve it and gain the self-confidence I need in order to speak English without being ashamed of myself...
