    It's worth noting that one kind of cricket bowler is called a "seam bowler" or "seamer". They deliberately aim to land the ball on that seamed ridge so that it will bounce in an unpredictable way.

    A good bowler will use every aspect of the ball for his/her advantage. An example is polishing one side only ... it helps to bend the flight of the ball ( in or out swingers). As mentioned
    already, using the seam to create movement off the pitch is another aspect. Some bowlers prefer the "new ball" that is hard and fast, others are masters of using the older, more
    scuffed and slightly softer ball. Balls are replaced after 80 overs ( 480 deliveries) or if the umpire agrees it is misshapen.

  • @brucelamberton8819

    FYI because the balls are hand-made each one has its own character & behaves slightly differently.

    Duke's Cricket Ball of England is still considered to be more Bowler friendly as the Seam in their Balls is more pronounced. Then the SG Cricket Balls of India are considered 2nd best for Bowlers especially for the Spinners as India has been known for Spin Bowlers more.

      interesting fact, they print 2 different things on each side of the ball, to make it easier to know which side everyone polishes, the polishing of 1 side, creates the difference in drag for swing, especially as it ages through the match, there was a scandal that involved sandpaper (artificially speeding up wear) and players get done for picking the seem, which also changes ball movement

    It would be interesting to see hwo a baseball picher would do with a cricket ball, and a cricket bowler with a baseball.
    I'm sure it wouldn't behanve as they would normally expect, but could they get them to behave in a way they could use to their advantage?
    The feel in the hand would be different too - the cricket ball is 7.1cm to 7.26cm in diameter, the baseball 7.3cm to 7.5cm.

      Could definitely be an interesting test. Some people do not realize how important the stitching is when it comes to creating spin on the ball as well as how it moves against the wind!

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  2 месяца назад +1

      @@Sikhander444 I would disagree with that. The skills for a baseball player is different from a cricket player.
      Yes it is easier to catch a baseball with a glove, but the skills comes from the other parts of fielding, such as a turning a double play, catching line drives, and they still make insane diving catches on the ball as well. Batters in baseball demonstrate more power in their swings on average than a cricket player. You also have runners stealing bases.
      Cricket has its own things that makes it special, but to say its like comparing hulk to ant man is just false. neither are superior to the other

    • @RealFansSports
      @RealFansSports  2 месяца назад

      You are the first person that has actually compared the weights and not just saying one is way heavier than the other lol. The 10 grams does make a difference in the longevity of things, but when we first started reacting to cricket some people had us thinking it was like double the weight of a baseball.

    • @vaibhavsane2
      @vaibhavsane2 2 месяца назад

      To be precise
      The official weight of a baseball is between 141.7 grams - 148.8 grams , and it's size is to be between 229-235 mm in circumference.
      The official test cricket ball needs to be between 155. 9 grams - 163 grams while it's size should be between 224 mm -229 mm in circumference.
      Now if you compare these things, the baseball is bigger in size and lesser in weight as compared to a cricket ball.
      Hence there is a possibility that a cricket ball feels heavier in hand even, as it is slightly more weight in slightly smaller size. Even though the difference is miniscule.
