Hey guys it's Jake with Lax Weekly and today we're breaking down one of the best lacrosse dodgers in the entire game, Michael Sowers. What makes him so good?
Here are my notes from the video!
1. Uses back of cage
Defenders have to step over it and it trips him them up
Dodges at sharp angles
Constantly switches back and forth - means good stick skills
Practice: just getting balls and working on those moves with intent.
2. Embraces physical contact
Uses his shoulder to actually make contact with guys - doesn’t shy away
Willing to pay the price and dive through x
3. Shoots from low angles
1-2 steps above the cage
Uses eyes and shoulders
4. Pass first
Stick and eyes are up ready to make a pass which freezes defense
Mentally
5. Confident: he knows he’s the best player on the field and demands the ball. He’s not shying away (use through x)
Make the next play: he dodges so hard and plays so fast that at some point he has to turn the ball over a few times. Doesn’t matter. Averages around 2 turnovers per game
6. Physically gifted
Some things you can’t teach

Thanks for the mental tips I tend to get nervous before games and sometimes drills
Fantasy Gaming1230 thank you for sharing and commenting on all the videos! I’m glad these tips helped. I used to get really nervous too but it’s something we can all get better at!
Same
Nice! I'm from the Princeton area and love this guy. Watched him almost every game. Thanks for the video!
Played youth & club ball with Mikey as we grew up. Great player but an even better teammate. He makes everyone on the field better.
This is who I model my entire game after. Unstoppable machine
Thank you LAX weekly for the new video!Michael sowers is insane!

Michael Sowers was so much fun to break down. What next???
Lax Weekly, I really would love it if you made a video all about the mentality, and confidence level for lacrosse. I play lacrosse and very often get extremely nervous before games. I know you say just to talk more during games which does seem to help me a bit. I would really appreciate it if you went deeper into that subject for a video. Love your vids man, keep up the work!👍
@@elikantrovich4383 Thank you Eli! I totally get where you're coming from - I will definitely make a video about that! It's hard to be confident, and I want to help you as much as possible!
Would love to see a breakdown of common habits across great offensive and/or defensive players. For example, watch highlights of 10 great offensive players and see what patterns emerge, and stitch that together for a video. You could do a similar video for team offenses and defenses.
Always amazing videos man always🙏🏼
Broghan Daley thank you again for the kind words my man!
Lax Weekly no problem man, I always learn something👍🏼
You listen ted to my suggestion!! Earned my sub
Joey Perri thanks for an awesome suggestion!
very good. sharing with our attackmen. Thanks for the post.
Looks like really good acceleration also helps. Get in front of a defender before they realise you’ve changed direction.

Jack Johnson thank you Jack! Means a lot and motivates me to keep making more stuff
Same here
@@coopechaves7395 Thank you Cooper!
Pls do a video on how to get better a defense
RE: eyes & stick up - I believe Coach Matt Brown from Denver talks about using your defender (the one who is currently guarding you) as a "window." One should look through the "window" or past their defender to see what is going on behind that defender. Your focus should not be the player who is on you, but instead focus on the action/the slide man/your teammates through the "window."
Carl H love that!
He actually used to coach me for a bit
Watched this vid a lot
Wow
Can you do Matt Moore
yes please do matt moore
I’m a hs sophomore in my first year of lacrosse. I’m looking for an attackman whose style I should emulate, any suggestions?
Mike wazouski
Lyle Thompson (it’s not exactly a deep cut, but his skill, effort, hustle and style really make him a great player to watch)
it keeps saying there’s a nonce security error and i can’t sign up with my email
