Huh? "Jimmy" at 12:42 saying "I didn't grow up able to see a superhero who looked like me...at all."
Dude. Then you did NOT read enough comic books. They were always there. It's kinda annoying when people act like "current year" is the only ground-breaking era in history with all the firsts while completely ignoring the past.
Just off the top of my head, in the 60s, 70s, 80, and 90s there were:
Black Panther, Luke Cage, Blade, War Machine, Falcon, Bishop, Goliath, Cloak, Night Thrasher, Black Lightning, Black Racer, Green Lantern 2, Steel, Static, Bloodwynd, Tyroc, and Invisible Kid 2 to name a few. With Vixen, XS, Bumblebee, Storm and Captain Marvel 2 for some of the female black superheroes.
I guarantee you I'm forgetting some too.
Idk about comica but I think he meant in media like on tv
He didn't just mean comics, not everybody read, or indeed reads comics. The clue is in his use of the word 'see' not 'read'. There were times when comics weren't even popular and were very much a niche market. He's talking about all media. It's kinda annoying when people can't think outside their own little world and thinks that everyone should know what they know. You can't ignore something you have no knowledge of.
@@donttagmeinyourreply1304 - Not as big a list but the 90s had Blade, Spawn, Steel, Meteor Man, Blank Man, Mantis, and both the X-Men and Status Shock cartoons. There was Black Vulcan and Green Lantern in the Super-friends and Justice League cartoons too. My point was they did exist, I saw them. It just seems weird when people today act like none existed till now.
@@lwaves - The 90s did have several in movies and TV, I just named some in another post above. I just think it would have been better had he said there weren't many back then instead of saying he couldn't see them "At All". It's this annoying trend of Hollywood acting like everything they are currently doing with black or female characters is "the first time".
Until the past few years I didn't know any of the black superheroes that you mentioned, and these days the only ones I do know from your list are Black Panther, Black lightning and Vixen and XS, and I think I got to know all of them after Supergirl debuted. So, as far as I'm concerned, what he said is valid, and I don't think I'm alone
Actors ought to be commercially lobbying for restarts! Are they professionally and financially satisfied enough with these conventions? Bring Melissa back as Supergirl, or recast a different young blond in a different Supergirl plot with a more personally satisfying conventional ending! Not a bisexual spinster loner!
