  • On June 25, 2022 the Shoreline Trolley Museum had their Museum in Motion day. This consists of two trolley parades, one shown here. The cars are mostly from New England and beyond. Some cars are also rarely seen operating as they are not all practical passenger hauling vehicles but they are shown here every year.

Wonderful parade video. Bless the restorers and maintainers of these old Darlings. Most of us who remember these vehicles as a part of daily life are in our ‘70’s-‘90’s. As we fade away, so do our many endearing stories.

One of my special places-in fact, I this may be my favorite place. love the sounds and the smells of the traction motors be it grease, oil or electric arc ozone smells, I love it all. Take me back to when I was a kid rising Lo V subway trains, Sorta sounds like Star trek warp drive engines. Aww wish it were closer to home.

This was a portion of the "F" Line of the Connecticut Company's New Haven Division. It was a city/suburban streetcar line, but much of the outer portion had the characteristics of an interurban line. Until a few years ago, the CT Transit buses still used the letter system from the old streetcar system.

How do they get all of the trolley cars there? Or are they already at the museum?

They were already at the museum

When the "F" Line of the Connecticut Company was converted to buses in early 1947, the museum bought a portion that was located on private right-of-way. Most of the Connecticut cars bought for the museum came in under their own power before the line was severed about a year later. After that, the cars added to the collection were trucked in and rolled down a railed ramp onto the tracks that extend into River Street in front of the depot. That's how cars move into and out of the museum today. The cars you see in this video all belong to the museum (the collection contains around 100 cars), and all of them reside on museum property.

The US made a big mistake when the country got rid of its trollies for smelly buses. Rode the trolly down Market Street SF in the 60's. Smooth, spacious, and powerful. Bring back trollies. Another mode of transportation to resurrect are Budd Cars.

I wish the New York Transit department would bring a trolley line back to Coney Island from Prospect Park in Brooklyn. It would be a smooth comfortable ride without diesel or gasoline fumes. 😊

@@luislaplume8261 Lived in the Bronx from my birth, 1948 to 1958. I remember all those trolly tracks but no trollies. I would hold my breath when a smelly bus would go by so I wouldn't breathe the fumes. My parents would tell me nostalgically about the old trollies.
