Great job! I finally came a cross a book many years ago that explained color bias in pigments. It's amazing how many books on color mixing never mention this very essential fact. One idea that might make your explanation easier to under stand is to point out that when 2 colors are mixed and one of both have complements in the mix the resulting color is muddier than may be intended. Ex.: Ultra Marine blue (red blue) & Cad. Red light. (orange red) That orange is the complement of blue and is what kills the color mixture right off.
Thank you for all your great videos!

Thank you for sharing this video. I am a new artist (acrylic painting). I've been painting in pastel for 4 years and thought I'd try something different but I was running into trouble -- now I see WHY. Thank you SO much for helping me to understand colors and mixing. I love to paint red rock scenery (like Sedona) and I would love to know how to get the many different kinds of reds and oranges you see in the southwest. Like a purple-kind of orange, a bronzey-kind of orange, etc. (sorry for the spelling, had to guess on that one - lol). Question: Your Cad Red color that you use -- is that a cad red medium? Also, can you recommend a good brand of extender for acrylic paint? I live in Southern California and my acrylic paint dries up SO fast! It is crazy. Thank you.

I feel embarrassed because I had every yellow except lemon yellow and hanza yellow, so had to order and got Sennelier's lemon yellow Hansa , plus I had yellow oxide instead of yellow ochre, so I also ordered that in Sennelier...( your Amazon page was out of them so I got them at Jerry's!) So when they come in I will paint over the wrong colors in yellow! Even so, I don't think I have ever had a class so well informative...especially on the bias of yellow and green! You taught me things I never even thought about before but now I know and will follow my color wheel to the max. I also did the class on tints, tones and shades which was equally as important as this one! Color is so important to me and I am determined to do this! A million thank you's Cinnamon because you care!

You explaine the color bias so well. Many people believe that the primary ADDITIVE colors are Cadmium Red Light, Ultramarine Blue , and Hansa yellow medium. And the SUBTRACTIVE are Magenta, ( with a touch of blue in it>). Cyan (touch of green) , and yellow. Also Cyan makes a stronger green. And Ultramarine a stronger Violet. About 10 years ago I came across a book called " Blue and Green Do'nt make Green." By MICHAEL WILCOX. a color theorist. According to Wilcox. there are no PRIMARY colors. Because there is no paint as yet that are pure in color. The book as illustrations on how the reflected light reflect or absorbs a give n color. He suggested that only 6 colors are necessary to mix all the others. From then on I tested his theory and glad to tell you that I no longer use all the colors I used before. I thank you for your video.

Great video demo - but I use simply red, blue and yellow.for my own taste considering that everyone views colors differently.

My science class went over the primary colors of light and ink after I had taken years of art class. I tried to explain how different they were from paint primaries and my teacher just dismissed. It’s always bugged me, thank you for explaining, this is super helpful.

For example, Holbein sells the following "PRIMARY" colors in their Fluid Line :
Primary Magenta, Primary Cyan, Primary Yellow, Primary White, Primary Black
How would these compare to the colors mentioned in this video and why/when would you use these?

Those are some of the best primaries. You can do alot with them holbein is amazing. With those you could add warm red, Warm yellow and a red bias blue to create a split primary palette. But they are strong on their own too.

So, so, so very happy to see Lemon Yellow replacing Titanate Yellow. I could not find it anywhere and the subs for Titanate Yellow just didn't work for me. So excited.

Finally catching up to this one here. I try to do one of these a week but it ends up being more like one a month so I am missing a lot of them. I do what I can!
