    It was so fun to hear you talk about your dahlias as if they’re your best girl friends. As I’ve aged, I’ve fallen out of love with dahlias for my landscape because I just can’t go through the digging and over winter process like I used to in my younger days but enjoy seeing the dahlias you share with us.

      Aww thank you Ann. I do see them more than just flowers, they feel like an extension of me, which may sound silly but they really are such a big part of my life. I completely get what you said, but I am happy I can share them with you and everyone else and bring some dahlia magic into your lives. 🥰💞

    • @InTheGardenWithClaudia
      @InTheGardenWithClaudia  2 месяца назад

      This is such a great question!! I would begin by search dahlia farms, visiting their sites and marking on your calendar the days they plan on having their sales. There is also several groups on Facebook for dahlias where people share dahlia sales, there's always so many its hard to keep track. Lastly look into Dahlia Addict website, its basically a database where it shows which farms have different varieties, and through there you can also find several different farms to order from. 🥰 Let me know if this helps!

  • @EmolyW
    @EmolyW 3 месяца назад +4

    I love your video, but it was disappointing to see you promoting KA varieties after the recent controversy.
    For some background: last spring, many smaller or newer dahlia growers/farmers reached out to Kristine to ask if they would have to pay royalties on her varieties, because they needed to choose varieties that they could at least break even on. Kristine promised them that she had no plans to trademark her varieties.
    Because of that, those growers invested tens of thousands of dollars into KA varieties.
    In July, Kristine’s husband Brion announced that they had trademarked their varieties and demanded 25% of sale total in royalties to sell any KA varieties moving forward. (The industry standard is 25% of *profit*, or 2-3% of sale total.)
    Many sellers were devastated. They consulted with legal counsel and were informed they could sell any KA dahlia by SKU instead of name and not be bound by Brion and Kristine’s demands.
    Instead of talking to sellers and working something out so those sellers wouldn’t have to go out of business, Brion decided to create at least two fake email addresses and use those to pretend to be a woman named Misty in order to harass and bully sellers.
    As Misty, he subscribed to the newsletters on the websites of at least 40 different farms. Because of that behavior, they lost a long-time business partner (because Brion was spying on them) who was supposed to drive the release of a new version called KA’s Schatz.
    In short, Brion and Kristine were bullying small growers- trying to bully them out of business. He was caught and called out because of his IP address. The things he did are actually against the law.
    Please reconsider your support of the KA varieties.
    TL;DR: KA lied to small farmers last year and said she wasn’t going to trademark her varieties, and growers spent tens of thousands of dollars into KA varieties as a result. KA announced a (very expensive) trademark requirement. Sellers found a legal way around the requirement. Instead of talking to sellers, KA’s husband made fake email addresses in order to harass and bully small sellers. Under those fake emails, he signed up for of 40 different farms. He was caught because of IP addressing.
    Please reconsider giving KA varieties any focus. Her flowers are gorgeous, but their behavior is repulsive.

      @InTheGardenWithClaudia  3 месяца назад +3

      Thank you so much for watching the video and for sharing this information. I truly value transparency and believe it’s important to have open conversations about issues like this. I hadn’t fully grasped the depth of the controversy surrounding KA’s trademark situation, and I appreciate you taking the time to explain it so thoroughly.
      While I don’t sell dahlia tubers myself yet-my focus is more on growing and sharing the beauty of these flowers in my garden-I certainly understand how these types of practices can have a serious impact on smaller growers. It’s disappointing to hear that the situation with KA has caused so much harm within the community.
      That said, I can’t help but love her flowers, as they’ve brought so much joy to my garden, I admire her efforts and the incredible knowledge she has and continues to put in the world. But I will definitely be more mindful moving forward and will take this information into consideration when discussing varieties in the future. I want to support the community and the values that uplift it. Thanks again for your thoughtful comment! 🤗💗
