Toralei looks great in this! I feel like she was one of the characters that was visually "softened" the most from Gen2 onwards, and now she thankfully has her edge back. I'm gonna say it, I think she looks better. I prefer this hairstyle to the original.
I know we all miss the old monster high but let’s not hate on this hardworking artist who’s just doing her job and following instructions. She’s making designs and suggestions based off of instructions the ppl in charge give her. Then they end up ultimately choosing the final design. I also don’t like most of the new designs of the monster high characters compared to the others but sending hate out to artists is just cruel. Plus I think she captured the old characters designs and personalities well in the characters she helped design.
SOMEONE FINALLY SAID IT! I personally prefer some of the older designs but the newer ones aren’t terrible, she’s just doing her job and her work is dictated by those she’s working for.

I missed Spectra’s pastel goth style. I feel like that was really unique to her and a lot of people really missed it. Why are people hating her? She was told to make several designs, with already set up guidelines and ideas that the corporates had in mind and that then were chosen not by her at all. the decisions she had in the designs were making them, she doesn't have the fault they chose those exact ones. So maybe, just maybe blame Mattel not her for doing what she was being paid for.

I was confirmed by the creator manny was changed to be less of a stereotype and ghoulia doesn't have a reason but they don't really need one this new gen is supposed to be a completely new take on the characters and non of them are supposed to be the same character as they were in the original, the new characters dolls even release alongside the original characters dolls so they're in no way supposed to replace G1 but more be like a different multiverse of it like Miles Morales is compared to the other spiderman

No, it is her fault because they gave her some control over the shape of them. Some of her Ghoulia designs had thinner legs and she actively chose to give Ghoulia chunky cankles.

But bullying people for doing their job with so much creativity is... Sad 😔. when saw the new ghoula i was so disappointed. she was the first monster high character i ever saw and it was a dress up game that had a one direction song playing in the background and immediately googled her name because she was so pretty and found monster high.
I honestly just miss the original Monster High. Their designs were perfect but now they've changed by appearance and personality. Edit: I'm fine with their designs, they're unique and pretty, and they're personalities *are* different but I respect it as its a reboot. It's just the small things I don't exactly like. *I know it's a reboot,* but I honestly don't get why they made Clawdeen and Duce fall in love. Duce and Cleo were an iconic couple, but now they both have completely different love interests. And as for Ghoulia, they made her have the ability to speak, which I'm okay with, but I *personally* preferred how she spoke in the og MH movies
I love how the jokes are much darker and they have way more monster references going on though. Also the longer screentime really does the series justice

The problem is they're supposed to actually improve things with the changes. There's a difference between just ignoring nostalgia to creat progress and actively degrading a product. I don't blame this artist or even *completely* blame the writers, but something like changing Manny's whole personality like that completely erases character development and changes the character dynamics in an unproductive way. A big part, like literally the main part of Manny's character was learning how to deal with his anger issues and be gentler *on purpose.* It went into his relationships with Iris Clops and how they interacted and cared about each other. It's not just whining about nostalgia ruined, it's legitimate criticism.

I love your style the art amazing and they fit certain characters but its still a little sad to see the original character be changed so much for some one who grew up with the orginals but they still look amazing and it's a new generation.

Howleen has been one of my fav characters since her big role in 13 wishes, and i absolutely adore her new design!! Shes def staying as one of the most fashionable ghouls!! Her new hair lowkey reminds me of her G1 animated series look
I see people complaining about tiktok comments and honestly its rlly not that deep, the series seem more like a failure specially because the toys and episodes are not popular among kids (the targeted audience) and as much as it sounds bad one of the main reasons is the character’s design. Now i dont wanna just bash on all the designs because the ones in the video seem insanely good to me, spectra’s design for example is amazing, toralie still screams toralie while lagoona, clawdeen, frankie and ghoulia fail to accomplish that correctly so spectra, toralie and abbey are a big improvement, its not only that the characters seem so different is also that very few designs are actually memorable or eye catching, draculaura is probably the only design that still screams g1 and its very eye catching and memorable. The designs dont really match the era were in they seem more 2016 and are just not “trendy” or impactful. Now, im not a child but i am pretty sure neon and bright colors are one of the reasons why the designs are lacking. Rainbow high has bright colors but the difference is that they make sense, frankie has neon colors for no reason, shes a monster, its just doesn’t fit the ghoul theme because we keep seeing bright purple, bright blue and neon colors while the designs are literally supposed to be monsters? I dont think it fits the theme, its almost as its just there because they thought “kids like bright colours” and thats just not as true as it seems, the franchise is not a failure but its way more popular amongst doll collectors than actual children who the show is targeted to. Im not trying to give design lessons the characters she shows are amazing compared to the first ones (frankie, clawdeen and lagoona) and i could never make them but i can understand why the show is not being a succes as much as g1 was and i believe the designs play a really big role on it. I have to say that this goes beyond the designs shown in the video and im trying to show and justify why people dont like these designs for the new gen because i see many complaining about those who are disliking the designs.

Only Howleen’s G1 signature doll had short hair. They changed it immediately after to longer, straight, pink hair because it was “girlier.” I like new Howleen’s hair better because I get the sense that it might actually stay curly on the doll and throughout the series (there are less variations in the outfits on Howleen than someone like Manny, so I’m assuming her doll was made beforehand). Plus, I’m a sucker for a sunset color scheme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I know a lot of people are sad about the change in designs, but I'm not! I love the original designs and they definitely give me a lot of nostalgia, but I love these ones too! It's very cool to see all the different concepts you had for the characters and I think the final designs were all great. Thank you for sharing the concept art with us!

I think it’s good to show some different body types, but they completely erased the identity of the original characters. It would’ve been better to make new characters to match the entirely different personalities. They could be the kids of the OG cast or something. It just feels lazy and like a slap in the face to erase many of the things we loved most about our favourite characters… No hate to this artist or to you! The series has more screen time and has such fun plot lines that go around the whole season like the talismans plotline used in season 1, besides the whole focus on representation that G1 didn't even dare to touch like Twyla being canonically autistic and Frankie non-binary while referencing G1 like the pictures on the Headmistress wall or Frankie wearing their G1 outfit. The gory details also amazing like Cleo literally keeping her organs in jars as a reference to Egyptian culture?? Woww. You can not like it if you don't want to, it's your choice. But bullying people for doing their job with so much creativity is... Sad 😔. Specially when you think that the lead designer from this gen (Rebecca Shipman) always worked for MH from the start and is responsible for creating so many iconic characters and lines even in G1, (Twyla, Jinafire, Nefera, Robecca, Sweet Screams etc) it's just a new universe that doesn't erase the past generation at all

when saw the new ghoula i was so disappointed. she was the first monster high character i ever saw and it was a dress up game that had a one direction song playing in the background and immediately googled her name because she was so pretty and found monster high.

I honestly just miss the original Monster High. Their designs were perfect but now they've changed by appearance and personality.
Edit: I'm fine with their designs, they're unique and pretty, and they're personalities *are* different but I respect it as its a reboot. It's just the small things I don't exactly like. *I know it's a reboot,* but I honestly don't get why they made Clawdeen and Duce fall in love. Duce and Cleo were an iconic couple, but now they both have completely different love interests. And as for Ghoulia, they made her have the ability to speak, which I'm okay with, but I *personally* preferred how she spoke in the og MH movies
I love how the jokes are much darker and they have way more monster references going on though. Also the longer screentime really does the series justice

I could care less about the designs, it’s just the personality changes that get me. At this point the are an entirely different character just the same name. All of their previous identities were erased for personalities overused in all types of media. Draculauras Romania identity is gone, along with Lagoons Australian bg.

The problem is they're supposed to actually improve things with the changes. There's a difference between just ignoring nostalgia to creat progress and actively degrading a product. I don't blame this artist or even *completely* blame the writers, but something like changing Manny's whole personality like that completely erases character development and changes the character dynamics in an unproductive way. A big part, like literally the main part of Manny's character was learning how to deal with his anger issues and be gentler *on purpose.* It went into his relationships with Iris Clops and how they interacted and cared about each other. It's not just whining about nostalgia ruined, it's legitimate criticism.

Everything’s supposed to be different, that’s the whole point. The character development from g1 doesn’t matter because this is a completely different character. Franchises from our childhoods go through hard reboots all the time, this is nothing new. Monster High fans just chose to be particularly butthurt about it. If your only criticism of g3 is “well it’s different than the one I grew up with” (which is what all of the “criticism” here actually is) then it literally is just whining about nostalgia being ruined.

Howleen has been one of my fav characters since her big role in 13 wishes, and i absolutely adore her new design!! Shes def staying as one of the most fashionable ghouls!! Her new hair lowkey reminds me of her G1 animated series look
I see people complaining about tiktok comments and honestly its rlly not that deep, the series seem more like a failure specially because the toys and episodes are not popular among kids (the targeted audience) and as much as it sounds bad one of the main reasons is the character’s design.
Now i dont wanna just bash on all the designs because the ones in the video seem insanely good to me, spectra’s design for example is amazing, toralie still screams toralie while lagoona, clawdeen, frankie and ghoulia fail to accomplish that correctly so spectra, toralie and abbey are a big improvement, its not only that the characters seem so different is also that very few designs are actually memorable or eye catching, draculaura is probably the only design that still screams g1 and its very eye catching and memorable. The designs dont really match the era were in they seem more 2016 and are just not “trendy” or impactful. Now, im not a child but i am pretty sure neon and bright colors are one of the reasons why the designs are lacking. Rainbow high has bright colors but the difference is that they make sense, frankie has neon colors for no reason, shes a monster, its just doesn’t fit the ghoul theme because we keep seeing bright purple, bright blue and neon colors while the designs are literally supposed to be monsters? I dont think it fits the theme, its almost as its just there because they thought “kids like bright colours” and thats just not as true as it seems, the franchise is not a failure but its way more popular amongst doll collectors than actual children who the show is targeted to.
Im not trying to give design lessons the characters she shows are amazing compared to the first ones (frankie, clawdeen and lagoona) and i could never make them but i can understand why the show is not being a succes as much as g1 was and i believe the designs play a really big role on it. I have to say that this goes beyond the designs shown in the video and im trying to show and justify why people dont like these designs for the new gen because i see many complaining about those who are disliking the designs.
I love how you can just show that you, commonly perceived as a normal random person, turned out to work for disney, monster high, and so many big companies.

Only Howleen’s G1 signature doll had short hair. They changed it immediately after to longer, straight, pink hair because it was “girlier.” I like new Howleen’s hair better because I get the sense that it might actually stay curly on the doll and throughout the series (there are less variations in the outfits on Howleen than someone like Manny, so I’m assuming her doll was made beforehand). Plus, I’m a sucker for a sunset color scheme ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.
I’m glad they combine the pink and the orange but I agree. Her first hairstyle was the best but her G3 design is cute too
I know a lot of people are sad about the change in designs, but I'm not! I love the original designs and they definitely give me a lot of nostalgia, but I love these ones too! It's very cool to see all the different concepts you had for the characters and I think the final designs were all great. Thank you for sharing the concept art with us!

I think it’s good to show some different body types, but they completely erased the identity of the original characters. It would’ve been better to make new characters to match the entirely different personalities. They could be the kids of the OG cast or something. It just feels lazy and like a slap in the face to erase many of the things we loved most about our favourite characters…

@@Nico.di.Angelo128 Erasing the identity I can agree is an issue, however I’ve mainly been seeing people bash the artist for her designs that she was paid to do… the fault of erasing the identity is to who gave the seal of approval and writing staff for their rewriting of some of the characters.

Character designers have very little to no say in the final decision, and I think it’s good that this creator used the OG MH designs as reference. They’re actually pretty cool! @@G3nderbee no, by the people who made Frankenstein. Aka universal. In G1 they were in collaboration with universal so they had the rights to make her skin green. They don’t have that in G3, so making her skin blue could be a copyright
