- One of my favorite mediums is encaustic painting, and to watch a piece go from a raw wood panel to a finished painting is so fun! Come along on this journey as I create a unique painting using acrylic paint, collage and encaustic medium.

Hi Dana! Love all your videos on encaustic and printmaking (subbed to your channel & newsletter 😊) I know you’ve had in-person classes for screen printing on encaustic but wondered if you have a video or online class for this particular printmaking technique? I do both and would love to learn how to combine them! Thank you for being so generous with sharing your knowledge & talent😊

Didn’t know you could mix encaustic with acrylic

I’m very new to encaustic… I’ve watched all of your videos about what does and does not work with encaustic. Encaustic can go over acrylic paints?
Thanks so much! I definitely put encaustic over a layer of acrylic paint. I try not to do too much of the acrylic, though, as the acrylic is plastic and if the surface is not porous enough, the encaustic will NOT stick to it. So you can add a little water to your acrylic, or just leave enough space around the acrylic brush strokes to have the encaustic absorb into the substrate around it. Hope that helps!
What do you use to glue down your collage pieces please thanks
Hi there! I use Elmer's glue (PVA glue) or Acrylic Matte Medium. They are both water based and can be used under the encaustic but NOT on top. After I have put on the encaustic I just use encaustic medium to "glue" or secure the collage pieces onto the painting.
