My favorite line from the show is, "There is no spoon." One of the most important lines I think, for him to fully become the one.

True! When the train was about to crash into him I thought he would think "there is no train," and the train would just go through him. But he just jumped out of the way instead

You are correct that you are lacking context. Nothing like "The Matrix" existed before it was made. No Bullet Time, The effects were ground breaking. The Phantom Menance came out that year, and it was eyecandy for eyecadys sake. Why did they do this or that? Because they could. These visuals only served the story in a modest way. In The Matrix these effects were integral to being able to tell the story they wanted to tell.
Every effect, every clever idea, every quotable line has become so entrenched in our culture, you watch the movie and you can't even see how fresh and original those ideas were in 1999.
Even more like this is Blade Runner. There has not been a Science Fiction movie made in the last 40 years that has not in one way or another influenced by Blade Runner. Not a single distopic future or advanced cityscape that has not been touched by Blade Runner.

That is so cool! Now that you reminded me that The Phantom Menace came out the same year, it makes me see the Matrix even more differently. The Matrix is definitely intentional in the visual effects.

The Matrix sequels are weak. You will be disappointed. That's why I recommend the "Matrix 2+3 ULTIMATE 2024" version to you, which I created for my sons (after four months of work). It is DISAPPOINTMENT-FREE because I combined Matrix 2 and 3, cutting out every stupid, syrupy, overacted scene, sentence, or even a word,
and at the end of this brisk and less cheesy story, I added two minutes from The Matrix 4. I managed to cut out over an hour (more than a hundred cuts) without compromising the storyline.
This version is recommended for those who were so annoyed by The Matrix 2-3 that they could only rewatch it by fast-forwarding,
and for those who would like to show The Matrix 2-3 to the new generation (definitely worth it for the action scenes),
but would spare them (and themselves) from the boring/ridiculous scenes.
Four months of work, a dream I had for ten years (that it would be great to have a condensed version, cut tighter),
and the final push came from the completion (and becoming laughable) of The Matrix 4.
Which was lucky for me, as I was able to conclude my own version by showing what became of Neo and Trinity 20 years later.
(Matrix 4 doesn't deserve more than these two minutes)
I feel like I've given back The Matrix 2-3 to humanity. To those who saw it back then, but there was so much irritating stuff in it that they didn't want to watch it again.
Be among the first to create a TRUE first-watch video. (I finished the ULTIMATE version a month ago, and only my friends have seen it so far).
By clicking on my name, you’ll see a clip titled "Matrix 2 3 ULTIMATE VERSION (end scene)", and there will be a GDRIVE link to the film in the comments. (gdrive folder... and view or download MKV)
