If you’ve ever done a track day you will know the Marshalls will come down hard on anyone trying to race or overtake without a clear and safe opportunity to do so.

Hitting the car in front of you (in this case barely evaded) is always 100% your own fault no matter how stupid the person in front of you is. That's default traffic rules, applied to the Touristenfarhten. Fast laps can be fun but responsibility is way more important. Never do timed laps during Touristenfahrten anyway (it's officially prohibited to do that), and drive only as fast as traffic and weather allows. Don't let your ego ruin the day! This video is a great example of track etiquette and FWD dynamics!
I would have went in slower with the Honda as soon as I saw that Fiesta - most street cars tend to get light when coming over a hill (depending on suspension setup/aero) and FWD cars love to lift-off oversteer when that happens - he could have slowed down sufficiently on the small uphill and made sure the car was stable in case of any surprises, not just a Fiesta
With that said the Fiesta is still the main cause for this accident, not checking his mirrors or simply misjudging the speed of the Honda in his rear view, while maybe not being completely aware of the position and size of his own car - rather than calling him stupid, I think he learned a lesson that day as well
It’s easy to act holy in the comments section but with that said, with a passenger on the side I would drive way more conservatively, taking into consideration the extra weight/weight balance and the extra life in my hands - rather have a “bored” passenger than a lap in an ambulance 😢
And let’s not forget ruining your car and maybe even your experience and memories from the ring..
Glad the Golf driver (or maybe the car itself) braked sooner than later and you came out shook rather than in pieces!

I have driven the Nordschleife using exactly that Fiesta (the very same car) and I made a video about it (I spoke Arabic so unfortunately you won't understand).
I have observations about the car and warnings about the track but it would be a very long reply. Instead, I will focus on the video here and your comment.
In races (I know this isn't), I can always argue to make myself in the right. And even if you switch me to the other car, I can present an argument to make myself in the right, only using what's written in the rules.
Let me be the Ford driver:
1- It's MY turn, since I started the turn without any other car alongside.
2- It is the responsibility of the car overtaking to complete a safe maneuver.
3- The car behind should've kept safety distance (applies here in public road).
      4- and more...etc
Let me be in the Honda:
1- It's against the rules for the other car to brake check me (This includes changing into my line while being much slower than the flow).
2- The other car should be predictable and communicate with others to show its intent (yes, a loose sentence but it's in the rules for driving on public roads).
3- The other car shouldn't drive much slower than the recommended speed to avoid being hit from behind (again it's ambiguous but also this is in the rules).
4- The other car SHOULD NOT FORCE MY CAR OFF_TRACK (applies in racing as you know, could be penalized for that).
Now some general advice about those turns:
It felt to me that Foxrör is epic and so fast that it's impossible to share it with another car (but I saw people going slow and allowing others to overtake there). You're going to respect gravity and high g-forces after driving there. This experience is from what I remember driving that Fiesta in real life.
Also the turns where the incident happened (before Adenau Forst, I forgot the name), are epic, on the limit, with zero margin for errors and so committed like the moment of coming where you nobody can stop himself (sorry but this is the best description). You brake in a straight line then let go smoothly, turn then brake again in a straight line. Good to mention that this experience comes from the sim as I don't remember what happened in real life here.
I'm not saying I am a perfect person, but in terms of driving, I avoid collisions if physics allows it even if the margin was 1 cm. Honestly, my instinct says if it was me in that situation I would crash into the car ahead in an angle that allows my car to be very stable instead of spinning into the wall or the unknown.
Finally I should say that the Civic driver was absolutely skilled and fast. 220 km/h in those turns it feels like the speedometer is lying. How can be same as fast as the FASTEST production FWD in the world driven by a PROFESSIONAL (newer Type R than this).

Easy/legaly correct asnwer is : the car behind is at fault, so the honda. A racer's answer would be the fiesta. But I have driven some touristenfahrten and the 'realistic' answer is probably: nobody. Touristenfahrten is not a race and most guys here are with old tires, no skill, have never driven the Norfschleife, have just got a driving licence or all of the above, so... shit happens. Every time you do TF you should expect such clumsy situations. Great thing is nobody got hurt. Props to the honda´s and golf´s drivers- both did the best to minimise the damage. Schwedenkreuz and Fuchsröhre are for me always a bit scary, cuz at speed I always have the felling the inertia of the car is a bit too much if something would happen. Thanks for uploading! There is something to be learned from this clip!

100% your own fault. Way too much speed coming onto two cars running parallel, and the car in front doesn't owe you the racing line. You should have braked more, let him move out of the way, then overtake. Please keep yourself and your ego away from the track.

Although I %100 agree with you about it being the Civic drivers fault, the "Please keep yourself and your ego away from the track" is completely uncalled for. People have accidents at racetracks, and it will always happen. The driver of the Civic was going for it, and was deep in the zone to try and get a quick time. He read the road wrongly, and it was his own fault. But I don't see any Ego issues in this example. Also to Civic owner, your boy should do the descent thing and atleast help contribute to any repairs... He really wasn't driving that carefully.

@@LeeJMcRae "The driver of the Civic was going for it, and was deep in the zone to try and get a quick time." - even in competitive racing he would be at fault, but on Touristenfahrten which is EXPLICITLY NOT a race (and timing laps is technically prohibited) and is a public road with amateurs and tourists, that level of aggressive driving should be kept away. This was a completely preventable accident - it was not a matter of losing control of the car, or running into fluids on track, or anything which is a real accident which can happen to anyone. This was purely over-aggressive driving at an event not designed for it.

@@gorankrajnovic For sure! I agree with everything you said! I'm familiar with Touristenfahrten too. Around most accidents on that track are avoidable though and the majority are simply people just carrying too much speed, or lack of track knowledge, or both. Not condoning this or providing a excuse for him, I'm just saying 'It will happen'. I think this guy was simply too excited, and doesn't have enough experience to do what he is doing (Not trying to be offensive, but this really was a amateur-level driving mistake). But your reply just mainly covered what I was initially saying.

·Ford driver with slow car/skills are driving in the center of the road with no reason...
·Civic driver noticed very late that Ford driver is useless as f... and his faith send to him a fantasy that keep going fast will result "the overtake of the year in nurbur" or something like that hahahahaha. Civic driver should brake more and before he has done.
·White Volkswagen driver should brake as soon as Civic driver start to control his car. VW driver was another guy with a fantasy faith in "keep gas because god guard me" or something like that. He think if keep gas he'll avoid the civic cause miracles happen hahaha.
·Notice how other drivers near white volkswagen didn't crash, why? simply: they start brake as soon they seen the civic loosing control.

Exactly. I'd even go as far as to say that the people siding with the Honda driver are only doing it because of the car he's driving.
When he approached the Seat he not only waited for the straightaway to make the pass but he also used his indicator to show he intended to pass AND he had already lifted from the gas early before catching up.
When approaching the Fiesta, on a more dangerous part of the track (on an "S") he went full on until he was on the Fiesta's bumper, didn't signal his approach and he still hoped to pass? How? What trajectory was he aiming for, with a slower car in front of him mid-corner?
Luckily no one got hurt and that's the most important thing but the Honda driver should clearly take away from this accident that he needs to work on his track discipline.

As the Nürburgring is basically an Autobahn with lanes in only one direction, the rules of the Autobahn apply, including "Schroedingers Speed Limit". It is legal and illegal at the same time to drive faster than 130 km/h. Therefore all three are at fault. The Fiesta driver for not staying in the right lane while faster traffic was approaching. The Honda and Golf drivers for exceeding 130 km/h. Yes, you got that right. Autobahn rules say, that if you are faster than 130 and an accident happens, you are at fault unless you can prove that the outcome(!!!) of the accident had been the same at 130. Considering your friend was doing between 200 and 220 on the approach to this curve, it is safe to say, that at 130 he would have been able to stay behind the Fiesta and not had to sway onto the grass. Therefore he would not have spinned back into the lane and the Golf had not hit. I can only assume the Golf had similar speeds on the approach to the curve, so the same applies here. Considering the impact of the different factors on the overall outcome of the accident I'd not be surprised if your friend would bear the main fault and the Fiesta driver the least. But I' neither a judge or lawyer nor an official expert in traffic accidents, so this is just qualified guessing.

Your own fault. Period. Leave the ego and accept you you arrived to fast. The fiesta would never had time to see AND THEN react about you being behind so fast.

    I'd say 50/50.
The fiesta driver let one car go by and then drifted slowly to the center of the track, didn't seem to bother checking behind them. And the EP3 possibly assumed he would stay to the side? Which imo, he should've played it safe and slowed down. That's just me.

I would say it was mostly that Fiesta's fault, why on earth did he come across to the left like that on a corner? Absolute muppet. You could say the Civic maybe should of braked earlier and been more careful, but you can't expect cars to just cut you off like that when people are travelling at decent speed.

The fiesta was a rental car driven by a beginner and an instructor was sitting next to him all the time. For a very beginner with no knowledge about the coming layout of the NS, he couldn't do it alone to cut off the road without any instruction. I assume that the instructor told him to switch the line so he could drive through the next corner smoothly. Somehow both of the driver and the instructor didn't check their mirrors.

The fiesta had just let someone by. He was angled for the left turn putting the civic out of view( only way he could have saw the civic coming was to look back at the track from the driver window) the ford then was setting up for the right hand turn that followed after the left he was just in. The civic didn’t even wait or look for a wave by from the fiesta to let the civic pass. He just assumed he would have the line. It’s wild the camera man just sat there too.

I saw your problem before you got to it. You 1st and foremost should never forget that TECHNICALLY; the Nurburgring is a PUBLIC ROADWAY OF GERMANY and others. People will ALWAYS be using the road everyday UNLESS…they section the ROAD(technically not track) off for a sanctioned event. Even though you are allowed to used this ROAD as a track. You DID not yield to the other CIVILIANS using the road as well. You sir were at fault. I’m glad no one was hurt or killed.

Taking the racing line still and driving at around 90% limit when clearly there are two slower cars in front of you driving erratically and slow is a disaster waiting to happen. Yes 99 out of 100 on another day you might survive, but it only takes one fuck up. Drive safe, drive conservative, and never ever trust other drivers doing the right thing.

I mean driving slow doesn’t seem as stupid as driving all out when there are slow things in front of you. It’s not the ford’s responsibility to keep track of how fast the civic is going behind him but to focus on what’s up front just like it’s the civics responsibility to focus on what’s up front of him.

    • @gravityhammer25
      @gravityhammer25 Год назад

@@oddwayne It's not even that the are slow af... well that's part of the problem but the main problem is their lack of awareness and going in the MIDDLE of the track when they don't need to at that slow speed. If you drive on track you should be aware of what is going on behind you and if there are faster vehicles you leave a space and stay out of the way. As Fernando Alonso said, "All the time you have to leave a space!".

    • @oddwayne
      @oddwayne Год назад

@@gravityhammer25 so the civic just gets to throw caution out the window even though he knows he can see the ford but not sure if the ford can see the civic. I have to disagree. The ford shouldn’t have to make an adjustment mid s bend, on a safe area to pass is another situation like a straight away.

    Its a nurburgring incident.
You were forced into a mistake,
By the black car in front of you.
He was in the middle of the track,
Leaving you no choice but take to the
Grass. ( passenger at that point)
The guys behind you, couldn't see.
The black car should have moved to one
Side, or the other. Ring incident.

Who was at fault? Easy answer. The driver of the Civic Type R.
Considering this is Touristenfahrten, expect to encounter the full spectrum of driver talent out there. Courtesy and signaling is always nice to see but never promised on days like these. It is up to the driver to predict the traffic ahead and navigate all obstacles using caution and situational awareness.

Driver is demonstrating aggressive behavior at 2:47 and it's a sign of his general driving style, not being very cautious or respectful of other drivers on the track.
By 3:01, the following two cars come into view and it's obvious that the Fiesta is slow and seems to be holding back the driver behind him.
He is starting to move, giving him space, at 3:04 or so. He overtakes at 3:06.
At this point, the Civic driver should have already started letting off, slowing down and applying the brakes. Instead, he downshifts and keeps foot on gas.
The Fiesta after letting the white car pass, moves back to the left, for an entry into the next turn. This is the point that the Civic driver decides to let off and attempt to brake but it's too late.
The car stability was already disturbed since he was running over the curb and lift oversteer caused him to spin. You can also see very slow response in the counter-steer attempt.
As far as I am concerned, even if the Fiesta kept on the right, with the Civic's pace, there would be an incident in the next turn.
You should never assume what a leading driver is doing on this track. This wasn't the time and place for a hot lap and pushing the car full send. Be happy nobody got hurt from reckless behavior. Drive safe, drive again tomorrow.

Fiesta's driver's fault. Knowing the context of the Nordschleife, if you know you are a slow driver and there is a very high chance of fast drivers who want to overpass you, just give them the room to do so. If you are not overtaking, keep the right side. Use your blinkers to let know the other drivers of your intentions. That's the rule of thumb.

  • @jonathanwright7975

This looked like a track day not a race. the responsibility lies on the faster car (could of been that fiesta first time in track). The honda went for a lunge out from deep and attacked the apex, the fiesta was just in his own little world. Honda probably caused this one and should of held back a bit more round that tight section(not calling him a bad driver he was hooning very well and mitigated a lot of damage). Glad to see no one was hurt, this shit is only metal at the end of the day.

  • @Hinshu85

Not a 50-50 situation at all. The Fiesta is to blame. If you are slow, you stay on a lane, left or right like this Wagon 1:50 .
You can see in the video he changed directions pretty quick.
