  • Allotment in a Box, ep 2: Peas🫛 Kathy loves peas because they have a really long growing season. You can keep planting them all summer to enjoy repeat crops of delicious sweet peas😋
Peas grow well in pots, you just need to make sure they’ve got something to cling to and climb up. Kathy recommends avoiding bamboo canes, as there isn’t enough for them to hook onto. Instead, go for old sticks or tree branches with lots of side stems, or opt for some pea netting. Whatever you use, it needs to be about a metre high🪴
Peas can be planted surprisingly close together. Kathy finds peas only need a couple of centimetres between each plant, so you can really fit a lot into a small space. Perfect for containers!
At first you might need to tie in your peas to their supports with some twine, but after a while they should naturally clamber up by themselves, hooking on with tendrils. It really is that simple!🤩
